Directors message

VISIONTo be an internationally renowned and respected institution imparting excellent education and training based upon the foundation of futuristic research and innovations in the broad context of energy & infrastructure sector.

Bhavesh Patel, Ph. D. Director, School of Petroleum Management Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University As petroleum industry is on its threshold in India; and the need for petro technicians and petro managers is rising exponentially. We at the School of Petroleum Management (SPM), Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Raisan (Gandhinagar), Gujarat envisaged the increasing needs for well-trained petro managers and started the Masters in Business Administration programme with a focus on Oil & Gas sector. First two batches of petro managers that we graduated from SPM got full placement, which is evidence that the industry need trained petro managers. Now, we are ready to present the third batch of graduates well trained for the industry. We at SPM recognize that a professional programme in management at postgraduate level must equip students with clear concepts in every functional area of management. Understanding of unique nature of hydrocarbon industry and associated eco-political issues, and exposure to real life industry practices are equally important for a successful managerial career. Along with knowledge and understanding of industry, one would also need several soft skills. The curriculum at SPM are carefully designed and delivered to impart conceptual knowledge, provide in-depth understanding of industry, and enhance soft skills capabilities. Full-time residential requirement and two years of engaging co-curricular and extra-curricular activities also add value to the personality development of our students. Our dedicated team of full-time faculty members - who are actively engaged in case writing, research and publication - takes interest in shaping young minds. We are fortunate to receive great support from the industry. Experienced industry managers volunteer in large number to help us in admission of students, designing curriculum, course development, teaching and case writing. Fast growing library with large number of books, journals and other resources, physical and online, satisfy our students thrust for knowledge. Computer lab and all other physical facilities on our campus provide a backbone for creating a healthy and convenient learning environment for teachers and students. I would sincerely request you to come and see our facilities and interact with our faculty and students. A little perusal of this brochure will also give you a glimpse of what we are and what we do. The profile of students given in this brochure may not have captured enough details to provide evidence of their level of motivation, inquisitiveness and preparedness, but perhaps I am not unreasonable in stating that our students are ready in all respect to take up managerial challenge at the entry level and above.

MISSIONTo prepare management graduates for continuous learning and inspiring them to contribute to the growth of an increasingly knowledge and technology driven global energy & infrastructure sector.

Corporate Relations & Placement and Placement CommitteeGreetings to you!!! The School of Petroleum Management, Gandhinagar (SPM), a constituent institute of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and promoted by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited, has taken up a challenging task of preparing managerial manpower for the Oil & Gas Sector, focusing on the entire value chain of the petroleum sector. The MBA programme is an innovative course of study designed to meet the specific demands of the oil and gas sector. Our students are given an extensive grounding in all disciplines of management, with a continual emphasis throughout the programme on the oil and gas sector as a dynamic global employer. In the first year of their studies, they complete a series of projects working both independently and in teams, to complement the time spent in the classroom. We view the summer placement initiative as a crucial tool by which students can learn from experience how this knowledge can be applied in practice. SPMs MBA students, all of whom come through a rigorous admission process, are highly motivated to learn, and will bring employers an invaluable combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience of direct relevance to the oil and gas industry. They are well-versed in the present needs of the sector within the Indian context, but at the same time, they are uniquely equipped to respond to the changing environment within the industry. In doing so, they are ready to meet the challenges of global business. SPM would like to introduce you to the class of 2009. We believe that you will be impressed by their enthusiasm and their interest in the oil and gas industry. We hope that you will work with us to create the managers of the future, and will join us for the Summer Placements during February and March 2010. Thanks, Prof. Subrat Sahu, Chairperson, Corporate Relations & Placement Contact No. 079 23275103 The Corporate Relation and Placements at the SPM is established to fulfill two complementary functions (i) connecting companies to right students and vice versa and (ii) facilitating symbiotic relationship between companies and the institute.
