IntroductionSuncorp Banks Power Index reveals for the first time 53 to be the single most powerful age in corporate Australia.

The index analysed the age, education, gender and international experience of Australia’s top 50 CEOs to reveal some extraordinary trends.

Some of the key findings contained in this report include:

• TheUniversityofNSWandMonashUniversityarethetwo‘power’institutions,easilyoutscoringtheprestigiousSydneyandMelbourneUniversitiesineducatingourbusinessleaders.

• TwointhreeCEOshaveworkedoverseasandhavebroughtthatexperiencebacktoAustralia.

• OneinfourhasaMBA.

• NinetysixpercentofourtopCEOsaremen.

• TheoldestCEOis81yearsoldandtheyoungestis44.

• Oneinthreehasanoverseasuniversityeducation.

• Loyaltyisatickettosuccesswithtwothirdspromotedtothetopjobfromwithintheirowncompany.

The findings show that a 53 year old man with a commerce, engineering or economics degree, international work experience and who has climbed the corporate ladder within his company is most likely to succeed in corporate Australia.
