MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR…

This week's readings are filled with the sights and sounds of invita on. From Isaiah--"Raise your eyes and look about..." From Ephesians--The mystery was made known to me and has now been revealed..." We are invited to experience Epiphany, the revela on that God has come to us as one of us, flesh and blood, our Sav-ior, Jesus of Nazareth. And what happens when that revela on takes place? Again from Ephesians, we are declared "...Coheirs and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel." St. Paul declares us as "members of the same body." In the first century, this was big news. Strangers, gen les and Jews didn't mix. They did-n't sit down for a meal, let alone worship God togeth-er. The idea was revolu onary. To make it work re-quired faith and trust in God's plan. This was difficult for the men and women of the early church. Twenty years a er Jesus died and rose from the dead, St. Paul is s ll wri ng le ers to remind his brothers and sisters that everyone is invited to the Eucharis c table of the Lord. God's saving ac on in Jesus is extended to all of humankind, not just a chosen few. Weak or strong. Old or young. Man or woman. Adult or child. Rich or poor. Ci zens and non-ci zens. Here we are, 2000 years later, and we con nue to struggle with the truth that St. Paul revealed to us. All are members of the same body in Christ. We also struggle with the beginning of a New Year. The television is filled with commercials invi ng us to start anew on our weight loss programs, get pumped up at the gym, look stylish in our new cars and make a fresh start with a new wardrobe. This year, I'd like to invite you to consider jumpstar ng your spiritual life first. Take some me each day for prayer. Take a walk outside to admire God's crea on. Grab your spouse and do a retreat or a cooking class togeth-er. Complete your sacraments. If you weren't con-firmed as a young adult, join RCIA this year and make the commitment to your faith. For you and your families, may 2015 be a year of prayer, happiness and holiness. May peace, mercy and forgiveness fill your homes and your hearts as we jour-ney together toward Christ in 2015. Fr. David Gaa, OFM Pastor

THE HOLY STAR

O Father, may that holy star Grow every year more bright

And send its glorious beams afar To fill the world with light.

Maribel Arriaga Capilla Parroquial

6:30-9:00 p.m.

PARTNERS IN THE PROMISE

As a society, during these days we can be in something of a “postpartum” depression. Our cel-ebra ons of Christmas and the New Year are over, and a er today many of us will put away the dec-ora ons and the last visible remnants of the cele-bra ons of the past weeks. The apostle Paul today uses the expression “partners in the promise.” This is an upli ing phrase for us to reflect upon, and to think of as our own calling in these days following the birth of the Lord. What is this prom-ise? We can find it in the gi s the magi bring: it is a promise of being a royal priesthood (gold), a ho-ly na on (frankincense), a people set apart for self-giving (myrrh). We find more of the promise in Isaiah—a light shines upon us! In the psalm we know a promise of a world of flowering jus ce, profound peace, the poor rescued, pity for the lowly and the poor. This is the promise; and one of the best ways for us to li ourselves out of any possible low spirits we may be suffering is to live out our partnership in this promise each and eve-ry day.
