The portion of our budget contributed in envelopes, checks and loose cash is $1,768,000.00 or $34,000.00 per week. Contributions for the 15th weekend of the fiscal year were $30,061.00. In the 15th week of our fiscal year, our budgeted goal for ministry programs and ordinary operating expense is $510,000.00 and our collections are $465,274.00. Thank you for your continuing generosity. May God bless you in your sacrificial giving. Lord, help me move from comfort to sacrifice.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel, centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit. We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the

mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all. Annunciation Parish Website: www.annunciationparishabq.org

29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

You might say that today’s Liturgy reminds us of the proper distinction between Church

and State. MT 22:15-21 gives us an insight into Jesus’ thought on paying taxes to one’s

legitimate government. While many would like to avoid this duty, Jesus reminds us to

“render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s” MT 22:21. That is to

say that we do have a duty to the State in paying our taxes for the common good but a

greater duty to God in rendering the Lord our service in worship and in love. The

American theory of separation of Church and State was developed in order to protect the Church from government

interference, not to keep the influence of the Church out of the public square. In fact, many of our nations’ founders

were convinced that you could not govern a democracy without the virtuous influence of people of faith and their

churches. May God grant us the strength and power of the Holy Spirit so that we will have the conviction of our faith to

make a positive influence in our state and our nation by standing up for the dignity of every human being and for true

justice for all.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

Today we celebrate Mission Sunday throughout the world as Catholics. This is the day in which we

reflect upon the mission that Jesus gave his first followers recorded in MT 28:19-20 to “Go therefore

and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the

Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am

with you always, to the end of the ages.” Some of us are called to travel to the ends of the earth, like our Canossian

Sisters, to evangelize and others are called to pray for their missions and support them with our resources. Whatever we

do, we can all partner in some way with the priests, sisters, brothers and lay catechists who are serving in village

missions, small schools, medical outposts, orphanages, refugee camps and crowded cities throughout Asia, Africa, the

Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America. As we are all one Body in Christ, we are tied together as a

worldwide family in need of love and support. There is a growing movement of Catholic lay missionaries, like the

Family Mission Company in Abbeville, Louisiana, which need our support for their efforts as individuals, couples and

families who dedicate their lives to bringing the good news of the gospel to the ends of the earth. While we must bring

the gospel message to our local community by the witness of our own lives, let us support those who are willing to give

up everything here in order to reach those who have yet to hear the good news around the world. Let us pray for the suc-

cess of the Missions and contribute generously to the collection today.

NEWLY CONFIRMED ADULTS

Congratulations to our five adults who received the Sacrament of Confirmation from

Archbishop Wester on October 8th at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. The grace they

received was to become not only receivers of God’s blessings but transmitters as well. This

is truly a reminder for all who are Confirmed that we should call upon the grace of the sacrament in prayer in order to

stir up the gifts God has given the laity for the building up of the Body of Christ on earth. May God bless us all with

holy zeal to transmit the power and the love of the Holy Spirit to everyone!

CATHOLIC CEMETERY ASSOCIATION

Did you know that our parish has a ministry called Hearts Afire Parish Program? The pro-gram (HAPP) was developed by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception and we began our ministry in 2018. HAPP is a bold and fresh approach to small group, parish-level,

faith-renewal programs. It is designed to help us live the complete Catholic life by setting our hearts on fire with love of God and our neighbor.

This fall we begin Phase Two of the program, titled Wisdom and Works of Mercy. The program meets Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in St. Magdalene Hall. For more information contact Leslie Monette at the parish office or [email protected].
