Sunday, September 13, 2020 Twenty-Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time Reflection for this week .... For those of us going through transion with the new family of parishes, these past two weeks have not necessarily been easy. Leng go of and saying good bye to members of our previous teams was difficult to do. Unfortunately for me, some of this transion did not meet my expectaons and caused me a great hurt. Regreable? Yes! Forgivable? Of course! Peter asks Jesus, “Lord, how oſten should I forgive my brother or sister if they sin against me? As many as seven mes?” Jesus said to him, “Not seven mes, but, I tell you, seventy-seven mes.” Forgiveness, so easy to advise others to do, but not so easy when we are the one who needs to offer forgiveness! Perhaps, even harder, is to let go and accept the forgiveness given. To follow Jesus truly as His disciple, we must be able to forgive, over and over again. Forgiveness must be never ending with us if we are to imitate Christ completely! The first reading from Sirach tells us “remember the end of your life, and set enmity aside.” Enmity is a strong word to use. Enmity is much more than anger, and means to carry a hoslity around inside you aimed at someone else. Not only do you carry this around with you, but you project it outwards onto others. Enmity can be so damaging to one’s self. Jesus came to destroy that enmity within our hearts. A few years ago, I aended the funeral of a friend’s parent. The priest asked us in his homily if we knew what heaven would be like. He suggested it would be the most wonderful banquet feast we had ever seen and Jesus would invite us to sit at the table with Him. There was one lile catch. The only available seat was beside someone you had not granted forgiveness to during your earthly life. Hmm! Take a moment or two. Is there someone you couldn’t see yourself sing beside? So easy to visualize in our imaginaons. Do we see what we need to fix, mend or repair? Just as Jesus is telling Peter, there can never be a limit to how oſten he has to forgive someone, we too are to do the same. With forgiveness comes a great freedom. Freedom from sin, guilt and an uneasiness in our hearts that tells us, something isn’t quite right. Well, my first two weeks with my new team for the West Middlesex Catholic Family of Parishes, has been wonderful! We all look forward to growing together with our new family of parishes. Just like most families out there, there are no perfect families only families who strive for perfecon. For me, I know if I don’t let go of the past, I can’t move forward with the future. I know there is a seat waing for me at the eternal banquet! I pray there will be others willing to sit beside me! Reflecon by Julie de Gouw, Pastoral Minister

Twenty-Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Reflection for this week ....

For those of us going through transition with the new family of parishes, these past two weeks have not necessarily been

easy. Letting go of and saying good bye to members of our previous teams was difficult to do. Unfortunately for me, some

of this transition did not meet my expectations and caused me a great hurt. Regrettable? Yes! Forgivable? Of course!

Peter asks Jesus, “Lord, how often should I forgive my brother or sister if they sin against me? As many as seven times?”

Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times.” Forgiveness, so easy to advise others to do, but

not so easy when we are the one who needs to offer forgiveness! Perhaps, even harder, is to let go and accept the

forgiveness given.

To follow Jesus truly as His disciple, we must be able to forgive, over and over again. Forgiveness must be never ending

with us if we are to imitate Christ completely! The first reading from Sirach tells us “remember the end of your life, and set

enmity aside.” Enmity is a strong word to use. Enmity is much more than anger, and means to carry a hostility around

inside you aimed at someone else. Not only do you carry this around with you, but you project it outwards onto others.

Enmity can be so damaging to one’s self. Jesus came to destroy that enmity within our hearts.

A few years ago, I attended the funeral of a friend’s parent. The priest asked us in his homily if we knew what heaven

would be like. He suggested it would be the most wonderful banquet feast we had ever seen and Jesus would invite us to

sit at the table with Him. There was one little catch. The only available seat was beside someone you had not granted

forgiveness to during your earthly life. Hmm! Take a moment or two. Is there someone you couldn’t see yourself sitting

beside? So easy to visualize in our imaginations. Do we see what we need to fix, mend or repair?

Just as Jesus is telling Peter, there can never be a limit to how often he has to forgive someone, we too are to do the same.

With forgiveness comes a great freedom. Freedom from sin, guilt and an uneasiness in our hearts that tells us, something

isn’t quite right.

Well, my first two weeks with my new team for the West Middlesex Catholic Family of Parishes, has been wonderful! We all look forward to growing together with our new family of parishes. Just like most families out there, there are no perfect families only families who strive for perfection. For me, I know if I don’t let go of the past, I can’t move forward with the future. I know there is a seat waiting for me at the eternal banquet! I pray there will be others willing to sit beside me!

News for all parishioners …. Upcoming Cemetery Sunday

We invite everyone to join us in a prayer service at the

All Saints Parish Cemetery on Sunday, September 20th at 2:00pm.

This marks a special time set aside to unite in faith and in hope of the Resurrection as we pray for those from our parishes who have died. In a special way, we will pray for those who have died during the past year. Due to Covid 19 we will follow all procedures and protocols. We ask that everyone wear a mask and please stay in your “social bubbles” and allow for social distancing at the cemetery.

New Family Sponsorship! Go to this link (https://www.groupgreeting.com/sign/9033bb53bc65646) and it will take you to a card to send a message to the refugee family that, "Our Family of Parishes" is in the process of sponsoring. They are currently displaced in South Africa due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. We have set up this card to send them greetings and prayers and lift their spirits. It will only take a minute of your time to add your message. It will be much appreciated. It's also in line with a message released by Pope Frances for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. Thanks to all who send their encouragement!

NEWS FROM THE DIOCESE

The 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees

(WDMR) will be celebrated on Sunday, September 27.

With the title “Like Jesus Christ, forced to flee”, Pope

Francis urges us this year to discover the reality

of internally displaced people more deeply. Every

month, a new video of Pope Francis and other

multimedia materials delve into the sub-themes present in

the message of the Holy Father. The past sub-themes

were “To know in order to understand”, “To be close in

order serve”, “To listen in order to be reconciled”.Today,

we invite you to watch the fourth, newly released video, in

which the Holy Father explores the sub-theme “To share

in order to grow”. It offers the real-life testimony of an

internally displaced person who describes how sharing

makes us more human, makes us believe more in God

and feel that we are His children. In the video, the Holy

Father urges us to share in order to grow together, without

leaving anyone out.

Society St. Vincent de Paul

All Saints Conference

September 2020

In spite of the isolations, the volunteers of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVVP) have been busy trying to continue their good work during this pandemic to assist those in need in our community.

From the beginning of this past April to the end of August, the following were provided to those in need:

977 Bagged Lunches

171 Breakfast Bags

289 Grocery and McDonald’s Meal Cards ($10 each) for a total of $2,890.00

This would not have been possible without the members of the SVVP who provided a total of 897.5 volunteer hours. Our gratitude also goes to The Catholic Women’s League for assisting with 25 volunteer hours.

To our Parishioners, thank you for your great support and kindness during these difficult times. We have found creative ways to spread God’s love and kindness to others because of your generosity.
