VISAGE

Karen Walker’s Monumental eyewear continues to define a certain throwback classicism; with shapes, colours and proportions referencing fashion icons and the iconoclastic alike. In Visage, we find her taking her lines from a Cocteau sketchbook, mannish figures depicted with languid, knowing sensuality. Translated to the modern day, metal and acetate has never looked so deliciously louche. These are the sunglasses Robert Mapplethorpe would have worn if he’d ever got his skinny white ass out of Manhattan to take in the sun on the French Riviera.

Insouciant, but still subtle, the proportions of Visage are restrained, and God is in the details. The mid-century modernist bridge and the tapered point at the hinges of new style Klee revisits Cannes in the 1950s. Ali – rectangular, clean lenses with metal frames, possesses the spare, economical power of the lines of 1960s mod.

These two shapes both come in new colour combinations. While Klee mixes up Crazy Tort with a sunset tint lens, black with a blue tint or smoke lens and shiny crystal seagrass acetate with a khaki tint lens, Ali is in bronze metal with a blue tint mono or black metal with a sunset tint lens.
