owardsaccesstosocialservicesandsustainablelivingoptions.Iwashonoredtoattendthiswonderfuleventwith
MayorLeeandCongresswomanPelosi.
Assummerapproaches,Ilookforwardtogettingoutsidetoenjoytheniceweather,aswellasenjoyingthegreat
outdoorsatGoldenGateParkandatthebeach.JoinmeonBiketoWorkDayonMay12 th,whilewepromotea
healthiercommunityandcleanerenvironmentbyreducingpollution.
Ouroffice,inpartnershipwithSenatorLelandYee’sofficeandcommunityorganizations,willbehostingtheRichmon
DistrictCommunityHealthFaironMay14 th.Stopbyforfreehealthscreenings,informationonhealthyliving,free
ood,andactivitiesforchildren.
AsbudgetseasonapproacheshereatCityHall,itisveryimportantthatwegetyourinputonwhatbudgetprioritie
ndconcernsareatthetopofyourlist.Accordingly,Iwillbeholdingabudgettownhallmeetingtomorrow,April27
2011,attheRichmondDistrictRecreationCenterbetween6:00and7:30pm.Stopbyandsharewithusyouridea
priorities,andconcernsabouttheCity’supcomingbudget.MayorLeeandothercitydepartmentstaffwillalsobe
ttendancetohearwhatyouhavetosay.
nthesetougheconomictimes,itismoreimportantthaneverthatwetakestepstoprotectandpromotesmall
businesseswithintheRichmondDistrict.Tothatend,IhavebeenworkingwiththeMayor’sOfficeofEconomicand
WorkforceDevelopmentonlegislationtohelpfillvacantstorefrontsandsupportsmallbusinesses.Ihavealsobeen
workingwiththeOfficeofSmallBusinesstoassistsmallbusinessesfacingdifficulties,includingchallengeswith
awsuitsduetoADAcomplianceissues.

disabledadultsatthesiteoftheoldSt.Peter'sEpiscopal
Churchon29thAvenueisofficiallyopen!Iwashonoredto
jointhecelebrationandhonorFatherDavidRickey.
Someofyoumayrememberthatthechurchwasheavily
damagedbythe1989earthquake,andtheformer
structurecouldnotbesalvaged.Thechurchpartnered
withtheBernalHeightsNeighborhoodCenter,andstarted
constructionontheprojectlastJanuarywithfundingfrom
theMayor'sOfficeofHousing,theStateofCaliforniaand
HUD.Thenewfacilityisamuchneededadditiontoour
neighborhood.
FatherDavidRickeycametoSt.Peter's14yearsagoand
thecongregationhasbeenintheRichmondDistrictsince
1913.HeandthecongregationwerethecatalystfortheSt.
Peter'sPlaceprojectin2003.Theprojectwastheevolution
ofmanycreativemindsallfocusedonacommunitywho
greatlyneededsomesupport.

Energyefficiencyforcommercialbuildings
OnFeb.18,theBoardofSupervisorsapprovedlegislationtorequireownersofcommercial
propertieslargerthan10,000squarefeettoassesstheirenergyusagebyconductinganenergyauditeveryfiveyears.Theauditswouldincludealistofstepsthatwouldimproveenergy
efficiency,likeinstallingsolarpanelsorsealingwindowsbetter.Thereportswouldalsoincludean
estimateofenergysavingsfromthosesteps,thecostofimplementingthemandtheireconomic
value.Underthislegislation,propertyownerswouldalsoberequiredtosupplythatinformation

theUSMarineCorp.HereceivedtheNavyCrossand
twoPurpleHeartsforhisextraordinaryactsofvalorasaplatoonleaderintheKoreanWar.In2010,on
MemorialDay,theSmithsonianpremieredthe
documentary"UncommonCourage:Breakoutat
Chosin,"whichrecognizedLee'spatriotismand
bravery.Itwasaparticularhonorformetopresent
therecognitiontoMajorLeesinceheismyuncle.

FebruarywasBlackHistoryMonth,andonFeb.15
theSFBoardofSupervisorsformallyrecognized
NinoParkerwithacommendationfromtheCityof
SanFranciscoforhislifelongworkwithunderserved
youth.Parker'seffortsatthePretrialDiversionProjectchanneltroubledyouthtoworkonpositive
activitiesthathelpthecommunity.
Theprojectprovidesachancefor"firsttime"
misdemeanoroffendersofnon‐violentchargesto
havetheircasedismissedbycompletingaprogram,
suchascleaningupgraffitiandotherbeautification
projectsthroughoutSanFrancisco.ParkerwasbornatKaiserHospitalandattendedCookElementarySchool,
RooseveltMiddleSchoolandGeorgeWashingtonHighSchool.HelivesintheOuterRichmond,whereheisraising
his3‐year‐oldsonNinoJr.
Zoe Levin along was honoredas “9-1-1 Hero” for her quickthinking when she dialed 9-1-1and saved the life of a lovedone.
