SATHAYE COLLEGE Supplementary RAR: 2017
Executive Summary 1
Executive Summary of the Supplementary RAR Report
(April to October, 2017)
The College has continued with the pursuit of its vision Poornata Gauravaya even after
the post-submission period of the RAR report.
The University of Mumbai introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system in April
2017. Rising to the challenge of OSM, the College not only opened up one of its IT labs
as a Miro-CAP Centre for its own teaching staff but also for teachers from other colleges
in the vicinity. Due to unavoidable circumstances OSM continued till the end of August,
2017, often requiring the presence of teachers on the College premises till late in the
evenings.
Notwithstanding this constant engagement with assessment, the teaching staff continued
holding lectures regularly through the months of June to August, 2017 and thereafter. A
number of Co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities were also carried out with the
usual enthusiasm. Twelve new Add-on Courses were started from July, 2017 onwards to
introduce students to various aspects of their respective subjects or related subjects. A
Career Guidance Cell and Counselling Centre commenced its activities of the year from
July 2017. Field-trips within and outside of the city of Mumbai were undertaken by
various departments to expose students to the practical aspects of the subjects taught. A
host of Guest lectures, one International Conference and one National Seminar were
organized by the College. Students from Nagaland were hosted for one week as a part of
the Student Exchange Programme. The College was awarded the IInd Runner’s Up
Trophy by the University of Mumbai for the Youth Festival for the academic year 2016-
17.
Keeping the focus on academic excellence alive, seven (07) faculty have published
Research papers in International journals, and one Minor Research Project has been
completed. To further augment the use of ICT in the teaching –learning process, the
College has increased the number of ICT-enabled classrooms to 27 out of 57.
The College strives to keep its goal of excelling academically and building the all-round
personality of its students, ensuring a healthy academic environment on its premises and
contributing towards the needs of society and the nation.

Criterion IV: Infrastructure and Learning Resources 22
CRITERION IV
Infrastructure and Learning Resources
This report carries the information about the augmented Infrastructural and learning
resources facilities in our Institution after the submission of RAR to NAAC.
Our Institution is expanding its activities manifold. All our departments always crave for
space. There are real limitations to expansion of existing infrastructure. Recently we have
made creative and imaginative use of available space and have provided usable space in
Room No 8 on the ground floor for Career Guidance and Counseling Centre as well as
Department of Mathematics. Similarly, Department of Sanskrit and Department of
Marathi share mezzanine floor near ground floor stack room of Library. In this space
both the Departments have accommodated their departmental libraries. Department of
Accountancy has been allotted space near Girls’ Common Room. LCD screen has been
installed on the first floor foyer near the library. Important notices related to examination,
programs organized by the College, etc. are displayed on the screen for students'
information. Similar screen is also installed in the Canteen. Thus, additions to
infrastructural facilities are made to cater to the students’ growing needs. Besides this,
infrastructure for Solid Waste Management project is ready in the campus garden where
canteen waste and garden waste will be converted into manure.
Alongwith physical infrastructure, library infrastructure also forms the most important
component of any educational Institution. The College has taken care to update its library
amenities too. Recently the College has added two separate computers for web OPAC in
the reading hall, one printer for teachers' use and one label printer, thus making diligent
efforts to expand library facilities to suit the needs of its users. Provision of J-dictate and
open-book software is also made in the library to help visually/physically-challenged
readers.
The University of Mumbai for the first time, embarked upon digitization of evaluation
system from the year 2016-2017 and the policy of On- Screen Marking (OSM) of Third
Year answer papers was introduced by the Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai.
The College immediately geared itself up to inculcate this new change in the assessment
system and opened an on-line Micro-CAP Center for teachers with well-equipped
computers from May 2017 in Room No 107 with the facility of high speed internet
connection required for the assessment of papers. This benefited not only Sathaye
College teachers but also teachers of other Colleges in the vicinity. The Micro- CAP
Center was kept open from 7 am to 5pm everyday and even on Sundays during
assessment period. This facilitated optimum utilization of this facility helping teachers
SATHAYE COLLEGE Supplementary RAR: 2017
Criterion IV: Infrastructure and Learning Resources 23
of all streams to carry out smooth assessment of papers as per their convenience. Another
positive development in the similar direction was the implementation of on-line payment
of fees across all the courses from-the year 2017-2018 which benefited the students. The
facility of on-line railway concession for students is also under way. The College has
introduced mobile attendance app to monitor the attendance of students during the
academic year 2016-2017. In the beginning of the academic year 2017-2018, the College
extended it to monitor the attendance of practicals of science faculty students as well.
Similarly, the College is also successfully strengthening its ICT-based teaching and
learning. Extending the facility of installing projectors in more classrooms and laboratory
spaces has been done to provide ICT enabled learning spaces to teachers and students.
BSc (IT) Department is equipped with 3 additional laptops. The provision of Wi-Fi
facility to BMS Department is also in process .Thus, effort of the College is to keep
students at the center of teaching -learning process by equipping them with ICT skills.
Last but not the least, regular maintenance of campus facilities cannot be underestimated
in total infrastructural setup of any Institution. Here the role of the 'Maintenance
Committee' of the College requires special mention. The work of renovation including
painting, flooring, polishing as well as maintenance and upkeep of infrastructure,
facilities and equipment is done regularly under the supervision of this Committee. In the
beginning of the academic year 2017-2018, painting of blackboards, paint touch up to
the College building, and installation of power- saving LED lights was done. The
meetings of the Committee are held every month and the work of renovation,
maintenance and upkeep of infrastructural facilities and equipment is done according to
established procedures and norms.
Thus, in conclusion, the College is successfully making every effort to provide well-
maintained updated infrastructure to its staff and students and its optimal utilization is
ensured.
