Cummins Inc. Opened its Global Logistics Hub in Singapore, one of the com-pany’s eight master distri-bution centres for parts and filters globally. The Singa-pore Global Logistics Hub boasts a total investment of $5.4 million USD and is part of Cummins efforts to enhance its aftermarket product delivery globally. The Singapore Global Lo-gistics Hub will serve mar-kets including the United States, Europe, China, In-dia as well as customers across the Northeast and Southeast Asia regions.

Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, graced the opening event at the CWT Pandan Logistics Centre. The Singapore Glob-al Logistics Hub is a consoli-dation of operations from three distribution centres in Singapore.

The Singapore Global Logistics Hub has a meticu-lously designed layout that aims to enhance operations

safety. It boasts a three-tier mezzanine storage system with in-rack sprinklers to strengthen fire protection, a vehicle-restraint system and material-handling equipment with cameras and motion sensors, for added operations safe-ty. Also, the warehouse adopts a best-in-class man-agement system and bar-code technology in a radio frequency (RF) environ-ment, to control and opti-mize material flow. With an increase in the facility’s height and introduction of a smart-slotting strategy, space utilization is boosted by 30 percent. The new features of the facility are in line with Cummins com-mitment to provide its em-ployees with safe working environments. With the new facility, Cummins will see a 20 percent boost in productivity, faster order fulfilment time and opera-tion cost savings.

Doug Sunkel, Execu-

tive Director – Cummins Global Logistics, said, “The establishment of the Cum-mins Global Logistics Hub in Singapore is a reinforce-ment of our global mas-ter distribution hub strat-egy and a reflection of our commitment to customers. There are currently eight master distribution hubs in the world – Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, India, Bel-gium, China and two in the United States of America – supporting our internation-al network and customers’ businesses that span over 190 countries and territo-ries. Singapore is a world-class global logistics hub with a strong advantage of being at the heart of South-east Asia and sitting right across the major shipping lanes. Leveraging the glob-al connectivity and strate-gic location of Singapore, Cummins will continue to enhance our capabilities in this part of the world to support the increasing needs of our customers.”

The move was com-pleted in two months with no impact or delays to its operations. b

Cummins Launches Global Logistics Hub In Singapore

Advanced Drainage Sys-tems, Inc. (ADS) (NYSE: WMS) announced a new, on-line program for design-ing and estimating the cost of a storm water system con-structed with its StormTech Chambers. Available for free on the company website (www.ads-pipe.com), the ADS StormTech Design Tool enables engineers, owners and contractors to design customizable underground storm water management systems. The flexible tool provides the ability for site-specific applications and can be accessed and used through multiple platforms, including smartphones, tab-lets and other mobile devic-es. System designs from the StormTech Design Tool are produced in both PDF and CAD formats, with data pro-vided that allows users to es-timate a total installed cost.

The design tool provides an important first step in the evaluation of water management solutions in-cluding consideration for important criteria such as the feasibility of retention

pond replacement, alterna-tive underground products, land values and usage, public safety, regulatory compliance, water harvest-ing, water quality, LID ap-plications, and more.

“We developed this new design tool to help our cus-tomers who want and need a rapid and responsive means of planning under-ground storm water man-agement solutions for their projects,” stated Bob Klein, Executive Vice President, Sales for ADS.

“Subsurface storage sys-tems are easy-to-install so-lutions that save space, im-prove land use and provide a way to meet EPA regula-tions,” he said. “The new design tool makes it easier for the user to design a sys-tem using our products as a solution.”

The combination of ADS StormTech chambers, Stor-mTech Isolator Row, N-12 and HP pipe are long-life, cost-effective products to control storm water. The ADS StormTech Design Tool enables quicker evaluation

and response time for de-signers, who can also share designs from the program directly with ADS technical services group for additional support at no cost.

Typically used in non-residential, residential and infrastructure appli-cations, StormTech cham-bers provide a large stor-age volume per square foot of land area. The chambers are designed in accordance with AAS-HTO and ASTM design standards and meet AAS-HTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications for live and dead loads. Manufactured using polypropylene, the chambers are rated by ADS for a 75-year service life.

For additional informa-tion call ADS – StormTech at (888) 892-2694, go to www.ads-pipe.com or con-tact any local ADS office.

The EC160E is the new-est E-Series crawler ex-cavator from Volvo Con-struction Equipment, and incorporates a powerful Tier 4 Final engine into a durable design, providing excellent fuel efficiency and a robust performance in tough applications.

The new EC160E crawl-er excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment is designed with a range of new features that boost fuel efficiency without sac-rificing power. Incorporat-ing a Volvo Tier 4 Final D4 engine, the EC160E boasts an 8-percent improve-ment in fuel efficiency, and 5-percent improvements in tractive force and engine power compared to previ-ous-generation models.

For further efficiency, the hydraulic system is optimized to operate in harmony with the engine, working alongside a fully electronic control system. The E-series crawler exca-vators come equipped with

the Volvo advanced ECO mode, reducing power loss and improving controllabil-ity and response time. ECO mode works in tandem with the main control valve and machine software to ensure efficient electronic pump control.

To reduce cycle time, a boom float function allows pump power from boom lowering to be transferred to other functions. The EC160E further improves efficient operations by re-ducing the amount of time the machine is idling. The optional Automatic Engine Shutoff feature can intui-tively power off the engine when the machine is inac-tive for a pre-set amount of time.

“Improvements to cab design, fuel efficiency and power on the EC160E all contribute toward achiev-ing a lower operating cost for the owner and higher productivity and comfort for the operator,” said Matt McLean, Product Manager

– Excavators, with Volvo Construction Equipment.Tough and ready

A reinforced steel roll-over protection structure (ROPS) offers maximum protection for the operator, and the durable undercar-riage is built to withstand all elements and terrain. An intelligently designed X-shape lower frame enables even weight distribution at all times. The robust boom and arm design includes internal plates positioned to support pressure points during a range of applica-tions, dispersing stress from high-pressure areas to ensure maximum pro-ductivity during the most demanding of applications.

The Volvo Lifetime Frame and Structure War-ranty ensures the boom, arm and frame will be cov-ered under warranty for as long as the initial owner keeps the machine. An easy ride

The EC160E offers a su-perior operator experience,

including a comfortable, productive working envi-ronment and easy service-ability. All machine inter-faces, including joysticks, keypad and large LCD monitor, are ergonomically designed for ease of use and optimum efficiency. The number of switches has been reduced and cli-mate control has been inte-grated into the keypad for easy adjustments. A short-

cut key has been added to the joystick to allow the operator to select functions such as windshield wipers, cameras and auto-mute during the operation for minimum disruption.

The Volvo-integrated work mode system al-lows operators to simply choose the optimal mode for the task at hand, opti-mizing fuel efficiency and machine performance. The

emergency engine stop is located at the base of the seat, so the operator can reach the switch from both the seat and the ground in the event of an emergency. These features provide the operator with more control over the machine, allowing easy adaptation to the job-site environment.

For enhanced safety, an optional side-view camera

Marc Paquet, founder and Area Sales Manager of Primary Equipment Limit-ed, is pleased to announce that they now offer RMT Equipment’s full line of VEI loader scales and TRACK-VISION safety cameras to their customer base.

“My relationship with RMT’s Managing Direc-tor Hugo Lariviere, Vice President of Operations & Sales goes back to Day 1,” says Paquet. “I’ve sold VEI scales for years, but Pri-mary Equipment has only been carrying the RMT products since late 2014. Customer feedback to date has been very positive.”

A five year old family

owned and operated busi-ness, Primary Equipment caters to the mining, for-estry and construction sec-tors. The company serves a relatively large geographi-cal area from Parry Sound, ON to Thunder Bay, ON. Paquet says this keeps him on the road almost “every waking moment.”

Paquet’s company is a very busy one-stop shop for sales, service and parts. He says the addition of the RMT’s loader scales and backup safety camera systems definitely comple-ments his business.

“The RMT products have helped us sell our used equipment,” says Pa-

quet. “When a customer buys a used loader, he usu-ally wants VEI loader scale installed. When a customer buys the scales, they may come back for a loader lat-er on.”

Factory-trained by RMT technicians at the firm’s Quebec headquarters, Pa-quet does all installs him-self. “Installing RMT loader scales and safety cameras on customers’ equipment keeps me busy in the off-season,” says Paquet. “It also lets me know who may be in the market for a loader.”

Paquet appreciates the support he receives from RMT Equipment. “The folks at RMT have been great. When we need something, they’re always there for us,” says Paquet. b

can be installed on these machines to cover the op-erator blind spot. The side-view camera can work in conjunction with the stan-dard rear-view camera so that both views are simul-

taneously displayed on the colour monitor, creating en-hanced visibility and a safer working environment.

The EC160E is also designed for hassle-free servicing. Access to the hydraulic and fuel tanks

is convenient, and filters are grouped together and accessible from ground level. Well-positioned punched anti-slip plates provide superior grip and durability for easier, safer access when cleaning. The

radiator, charged air cool-er and hydraulic oil cooler are easily accessed from ground level by simply opening the side door. Re-al-time service alerts are displayed on the colour monitor to enable speedy

diagnostic. With Volvo CareTrack telematics, which comes standard, the owner and fleet man-ager can remotely monitor a wide range of machine diagnostics, as well as ma-chine location in real time.Switch it up

The EC160E has been built to maximize produc-tivity and profitability by adapting to a wide range of tasks. The machine can ac-commodate a multitude of hydraulic attachments, as Volvo excavators are fac-tory fitted with a breaker, sheer piping, as well as ro-tator piping.

The password-protect-ed management system stores information for up to 20 different attach-ments. The pressures and hydraulic flows can be adjusted within the cab, which enables the use of various attachments for increased versatility. A proportional electric pedal

offers precise control and the attachment response sensitivity can be adjusted using the keypad for max-imum impact in different environments.

Durable Volvo attach-ments have been purpose-built to work in perfect har-mony with these machines. These attachments include Volvo GP, HD and XD buckets — the perfect tools for digging and re-handling in all conditions — and the HB-18 hydraulic breaker, optimized to the specific weight of the machines and tailored to Volvo’s quick couplers for swift and easy attachment changes. Volvo offers a full range of quick couplers featuring Front Pin Lock technology, com-pliant with the latest safety regulations of ISO 13031 and EN474-1 and designed to fit perfectly with Volvo equipment. b

In 1965, Owatonna Manufacturing Company (today a part of Manitou Americas, Inc., a leading manufacturer of compact earthmoving and material handling equipment), be-gan designing and manu-facturing its own line of skid steer loaders. They were the second manufac-turer to develop skid steer loaders, at that time known as “self-propelled, four-wheel drive units,” starting with the Owatonna Mus-tang Series 1000.

The Mustang legacy of innovation continues 50 years later with one of the most complete skid steer loader lines on the market. Today, a complete offering of eight radial-lift and three vertical-lift models, includ-ing the 4000V, the world’s most powerful skid steer loader, are offered under the Mustang brand name.

“The Mustang brand is built on a foundation of designing and producing powerful, easy-to-use skid

steers,” said Dan Miller, CEO of Manitou Americas and President of the Mani-tou Group CEP-Compact Equipment Division. “Our task for the future is to in-corporate new features and technology, yet still main-tain the durability and in-tegrity our customers have come to expect from the Mustang brand.”

To carry the success of the skid steer loader line into the future, Manitou Americas, Inc. continues the tradition of developing equipment to match the de-mands of its core custom-ers in the agriculture, con-struction, landscape and rental markets.

In 2009, an investment in a state-of-the-art Re-search and Design facility in West Bend, Wisconsin paved the way for future innovation and durability testing.

“We are very proud of our 50 years of experience in designing and manu-facturing the Mustang

skid steer loader,” said Lori Heidecker, Marketing Director. “The Mustang brand skid steer loader is known by its dealers and customers to be one of the most durable, reliable, and innovative in the market today. With the roots of the Mustang brand begin-ning in 1888 in the agricul-ture industry in Owatonna, Minnesota, Manitou Amer-icas is dedicated to deliv-ering the highest quality, innovative skid steers to customers across the globe today and into the future”. History

The Mustang brand has roots dating back to 1888. Known in the early years as the Owatonna Manu-facturing Company, OMC manufactured a variety of agricultural implements. For decades, farmers easily rec-ognized the OMC paint co-lours of lime green and red on grain drills, seeders, el-evators and balers. In 1965, the company developed its first skid-steer, the Mus-

tang. The term “skid-steer” wasn’t used at that time, so the company called it a “self-propelled, four-wheel drive unit.” It was also known as the Owatonna Mustang Se-ries 1000.

Even by today’s stan-dards, the Series 1000 was good size. Designed to do the job of much larger ma-chines, it featured a 30-hp Wisconsin air-cooled en-gine and was one of the most powerful compact machines available in the 1960’s. With a rated lift ca-pacity of 1,200 lbs. and a turning radius of 45 inches, the Mustang Series 1000 was used on farms, con-struction sites, parks and landscaping projects.

The machine featured a multi-disc transmission and drive system that pro-vided smooth operation.

The multi-disc clutches

had nine working surfaces with heavy-duty separator springs. The entire drive and transmission system was encased in an oil reser-voir for cooler and cleaner operation.

The hydraulic system used a 10-gpm pump with a full system relief valve at 2,000 psi. The engine fea-tured stellate valves and positive valve rotators.

A dry-type air cleaner and oil filter were standard equipment. In addition, the Series 1000 operated on a 12-volt electrical system and had an enclosed starter and industrial alternator.

In 1997, the Mustang brand was sold to the Gehl Company, headquartered in West Bend, Wisconsin. Manufacturing facilities were consolidated into Gehl’s South Dakota plant.

Today, Mustang is

known throughout the world for a superior line of skid steer loaders. In fact, Mustang offers one of the broadest lines of compact construction equipment available from a single brand. In addition to elev-en skid steer loaders, the product portfolio currently consists of five compact zero-tail-swing excavators and three track loaders.

Throughout the years, the dedication to the skid steer product has never changed. Product updates included more powerful engines, higher lift heights and compact dimensions. The Mustang brand skid steer loader has consis-tently evolved, answering customer demands for a reliable and adaptable ma-chine. b

Ontario is helping ensure that the residents of Ilderton have access to a more reli-able water supply for daily use and for emergencies with the completion of the upgrades to the Ilderton Wa-ter Storage system.

The province invested $2 million in the system upgrade - one of 89 capital infrastructure projects that was supported by Ontario’s Municipal Infrastructure Investment fund.

Ontario’s long-term in-frastructure plan will help connect regions, develop new economic opportu-nities and improve qual-

ity of life for Ontarians by supporting critical infra-structure projects in cit-ies, towns, and rural and remote communities all across the province.

Investing in infrastruc-ture is part of the gov-ernment’s plan to build Ontario up. The four part plan includes investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest invest-ment in public infrastruc-ture in Ontario’s history, creating a dynamic, inno-vative environment where business thrives, and build-ing a secure retirement sav-ings plan.

Quick Facts• Through the Municipal

Infrastructure Invest-ment fund the province committed up to $89 mil-lion to help municipali-ties provide safe and reli-able local infrastructure.

• Modernizing infrastruc-ture will support more than 110,000 jobs a year on average in construction and related industries.

• A Conference Board of Canada report estimated that Ontario’s public in-frastructure investment would add more than $1,000 to the average annual income of Ontar-ians in 2014 and lower the unemployment rate by about one percentage point. b

Bolstered with big up-dates, the new 370E, 410E and 460E articulated dump truck (ADTs) are designed to keep materials moving and profits flowing. The three models are highlight-ed by an EPA Final Tier 4 (FT4)/EU Stage IV John Deere PowerTech diesel

engine and a pressurized Deere-designed cab — both of which combine to boost productivity and uptime, while minimizing daily op-erating costs.

“The new E-Series ar-ticulated dump trucks are the result of our most im-portant asset, our custom-

ers,” said Mark Shea, ADT product consultant, John Deere Construction & For-estry. “We worked with our customers to find out what they need in an ar-ticulated dump truck to make their jobs more safe, efficient, and productive. The E-Series is equipped

with several features to ac-commodate these requests. Efficiency and productivity are boosted by standard best-in-class diff lock and powerful transmission re-tarder; while safety is para-mount through ground-lev-el daily service, auto horn, rollover protection and re-mote park-brake release.”

Designed and built in Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa, the E-Series ADTs feature 422 hp (370E), 443 hp (410E) and 481 hp (460E), delivering impres-sive power and torque with exceptional power-to-weight ratios and fast cycles. A purpose-built ZF transmission includes eight forward gears and four reverse gears, and a high-capacity retarder to increase service brake life. In addition, the John Deere hauler axles are designed for heavy-duty applica-tions and include on-the-fly differential locks and outboard planetaries, and each axle is independently pressure lubed and filtered. The E-Series axles use in-ternal wet disc brakes that utilize independent cooling circuits.

Perhaps the biggest change to these new mod-els is the updated cab. The ultra-quiet, redesigned cab is sealed and pressurized to keep out dust and noise, affording enhanced opera-tor concentration and effi-ciency. Creature comforts include push-button start, low-effort push-button controls, air-suspension heated high-back seat, tilt/

telescoping steering wheel and optional premium ra-dio with Bluetooth, auxilia-ry input and satellite radio capability. Stairway lights can be turned on with the push of a button from ground level for easier vis-ibility when entering the larger cab entryway.

The E-Series models are equipped with an updated 7-inch high-resolution LCD monitor for easy access to onboard diagnostics, digital gauges and vital system in-dicators — all conveniently located within arm’s reach and view during rough haul conditions. Two er-gonomically positioned sealed switch modules sim-plify operation and conve-nience controls. The auto shutdown feature turns off the engine after an owner-determined period of inac-tivity to reduce emissions, idle time and subsequent wear on the power train.

An integrated tire-pres-sure/temperature monitor-ing system comes standard to help maximize tire life and fuel efficiency. If pres-sure drops by 10 percent, a passive alarm appears on the monitor. In addition, further pressure decreases or overheating result in an audible warning and an email alert that is sent via JDLink.

An optional, onboard weighing system is fac-tory calibrated, which al-lows contractors to view the weight and the number of loads carried via JD-Link. The system displays the payload on the moni-tor during loading while transmitting real-time load and tonnage data via JD-Link, so productivity can be monitored from virtu-

ally anywhere. The on-board weighing option also comes equipped with mirror-mounted LED load indicator lights that illumi-nate for the loading opera-tor as the truck approaches capacity (green flashing), is at capacity (green) or is 10 percent or more over ca-pacity/overload (red flash-ing).

A favoured customer-driven feature of the E-Series and a hallmark for John Deere is centralized, true ground-level ser-vicing to simplify daily maintenance and overall serviceability. All daily service can be completed from the ground. Hydrau-lically controlled fans with swing-out cooling packages on both sides of the engine highlight the cool-on-demand system. For dusty environments, there is a reversible fan option available for sim-plified cooler cleanout.

Operators looking to get the most out of their E-Series can rely on Ultimate Uptime featuring John Deere WorkSight. With Ul-timate Uptime, operators receive predelivery and fol-low-up inspections; three years of JDLink telematics, machine heath prognostics and remote diagnostics and programming capability; and the ability to add addi-tional dealer-provided up-time solutions to customize the package to individual needs.

OTA has completed its comments to the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) regarding a propos-al that calls for the potential introduction of an online administrative monetary penalty system (AMPS) to replace certain aspects of the existing court system that deals with traffic relat-ed Provincial Offences and Municipal infractions.

As OTA recently ex-plained following a consul-tative meeting with motor carriers and legal experts, the idea could seriously hinder carriers’ ability to dispute Municipal or High-

way Traffic Act offences. In its official comments to

MAG, OTA said that based on how existing AMPS func-tion in other sectors, the carrier community would not support any penalties – other than in very specific circumstances like certain parking tickets – moving to an AMPS system.

OTA also pointed out that movement to an AMPS system is an affront to the fundamental principles of natural justice and the right to be presumed innocent before proven guilty. b

Takeuchi-US, an in-novative global leader in compact equipment has recently updated their product offering with the introduction of the all-new TS80 skid steer load-ers that are available in both radial and vertical loader arrangements. The TS80 series are the larg-est models in the Takeu-chi skid steer product line that also includes the TS50 and TS60. Highly maneuverable and power-ful, the large frame TS80 series loaders deliver an outstanding blend of per-formance, durability, and operator comfort.

The new TS80 skid steer loaders feature a 74 hp Fi-

nal Tier 4 Deutz engine that delivers an impres-sive 192 ft. lb. of torque at 1,800 rpm. A key benefit of the new Deutz engine is its simple maintenance free Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) that does not re-quire regeneration, clean-ing, or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).

Takeuchi TS80R2 Skid Steer

The TS80R2 features an operating weight of 7,950 lbs. and a rated operating capacity of 2,825 lbs. The bucket breakout force on the TS80R2 is 5,845 lbs., with a lift arm force of 7,080 lbs. and a maximum hinge pin height of 10 ft. 5 in. Takeuchi TS80V2 Skid Steer

The TS80V2 is heavier than its radial counterpart with an operating weight of 8,965 lbs. and a rated oper-ating capacity of 3,500 lbs. Bucket breakout force on the vertical model is 5,920 lbs., with a lift arm force of 6,200 lbs., and a maximum

hinge pin height of 10 ft. 10 in.

Comfortable to operate, the TS80 skid steers fea-ture a functional and well-equipped operator’s station that now includes a lower threshold for easier entry and exit for the operator. Several new options are now available and include ride control, bucket posi-tioning, and high-flow aux-iliary hydraulics to increase both productivity and ver-satility.

“We are very excited and proud to introduce the new TS80 skid steers to the market because of the machines’ excellent operating capacity and hydraulic performance — the features that make them so powerful and re-liable out on the jobsite,” said David Steger, Prod-uct Manager at Takeuchi-US. “Uptime has been improved with these ma-chines, and daily main-tenance points like fluid level checks and greas-ing access have been im-proved and simplified as well. Takeuchi Introduces The TS80 Skid Steer To Their Lineup

“When staff from a good, longtime customer such as Mammoet visits our plant in Zweibrücken, we roll out the red carpet for them,” says Terex Key Account Manager Uwe Schlicher, who greeted the guests together with several fellow team mem-bers: Vice President of EMEAR Sales Carsten von der Geest, Wallerscheid Plant Manager Thorsten Quadflieg, Zweibrücken Director of Quality Pierre Rappin, and Sales Manager Torsten Hanke. The reason behind the visit was the handover of a new Terex Explorer 5500 all-terrain crane, which Mammoet will first use at its German Ludwigshafen location and then at its Leuna location. This is why the Mammoet staff from both locations travelled to Zweibrücken to receive the crane.

Mammoet Germany had good reasons to de-cide to buy an Explorer 5500 crane, as the compa-ny’s customer base is high profile and demands high quality equipment: “We ordered the Explorer 5500 with a 60-meter boom and a fly jib. This will prove to be — indirectly — advan-tageous during our work at BASF’s facilities, where we will often have to lift loads high or over obstacles with very limited space,” ex-plains Steffen Marx, Lud-wigshafen Branch Man-

ager. In addition, the crane comes with an optional refinery kit featuring an electrical emergency stop system for the engine, a fast-acting shut-off valve for the engine’s intake pipe, and an emergency engine shutdown system.

“The single-engine de-sign also played an impor-tant part in our decision. The Explorer is the first crane with only one en-gine in our fleet. It saves fuel, reduces weight, and lowers maintenance costs. All in all, this means that the crane really pays for itself, especially when it comes to long projects,” adds Head of Crane Op-erations Hans-Werner Springstein.

Mammoet also consid-ered the crane’s axle load indicator to be an advan-tage, as it makes it easy to check the unit’s axle loads — something that is becom-ing increasingly important as authorities get stricter and stricter in this regard. In addition, the company attaches enormous impor-tance to safety, just like Terex Cranes, and this is another area in which the Explorer 5500 excels: “The unit’s automatic counter-weight detection and its large number of access points at ground level, which make it possible to easily reach components such as the diesel and Ad-Blue tanks, eliminate the

need for working at heights in a variety of cases,” says von der Geest to indicate two of the crane’s impor-tant safety features.

The handover was followed by an exciting highlight for the Mam-moet staff, as Terex treated its guests to a closer look at the com-pany’s crane production operations as part of a tour through the Waller-scheid plant. Marx, who has only been with Mam-moet for a few months, was impressed in par-ticular and was happy to get the chance to see the details behind the production operations of Terex for himself. “This type of thing is crucial to the way we take care of our relationships — cus-tomers are always wel-come to visit, and we are always more than happy to show them where and how their Terex cranes are made,” Quadflieg points out. b

The new E-series short swing crawler excavators from Volvo Construction Equipment deliver better visibility when operating in confined spaces and great-er fuel efficiency without compromising on power and performance.

To capitalize on effi-ciency and productivity,

both machines offer in-tegrated working modes, which allow the operator to choose the best work mode for the application — I (Idle), F (Fine), G (General) or H (Heavy). To further improve fuel efficiency, these machines are equipped with auto idle and engine shutdown

features. The auto idle function reduces engine speed to idle when the controls are inactive for a pre-set amount of time. If the machines are left idle for longer, the optional auto engine shutdown feature will automatically turn off the machine.

These excavators have

been built to tackle a range of applications with a durable undercarriage to ensure impressive trac-tive force when climbing, as well as when traveling over both rough and soft terrain.

“The centre-positioned boom and compact swing radius of these machines make them ideal for tack-ling jobs in confined ur-ban areas that still require a great deal of stability, power and digging depth,” said Matt McLean, Product Manager – Excavators, at Volvo Construction Equip-ment.Backed by lifetime warranty

Volvo excavators are designed and built with unsurpassed frame and structure durability, and Volvo stands behind this quality by offering a life-time warranty on the boom, arm and frame.Comfortably in control

Built with the operator in mind, the newly designed Volvo cab is equipped with a rollover protection struc-ture (ROPS) for increased operator safety. The spa-cious cab features large front and side windows for high visibility and ease of operation, and a wider

entrance ensures improved access. A well-positioned pantograph windshield wiper provides the best possible coverage for the front window for comfort-able and accurate opera-tion in poor weather.

An improved climate control system allows the operator to select the de-sired temperature and get to work. An industry-leading air circulation and defrosting system speeds up the heating and cooling process for a more comfort-able working environment.

To further enhance controllability, these ma-chines feature a keypad that allows operators to navigate through differ-ent settings on the 8-inch LCD monitor and activate machine functions in a safe and comfortable way. The functionality of the camera, air conditioning and lights can be custom-ized through the keypad, and configurations can be saved for added conve-nience. Bluetooth has also been added so the opera-tor can connect to a phone with a single button. In addition, the windshield wipers, camera and an au-dio mute function can be assigned to a shortcut but-

ton located on the left joy-stick, so the operator can control the selected func-tion by pressing a button.A winning combination

The ECR145E and ECR235E have been de-signed to provide the low-est total cost of ownership. A winning combination of enhanced hydraulics, improved ECO mode and convenient service access contributes to lower over-all costs and higher pro-ductivity.

An optimized hydrau-lics system is combined with the fully electronic control system to improve controllability and re-sponse time. This system works in harmony with the exclusive Volvo ECO mode, which optimizes the hydraulic system to reduce flow and pressure losses resulting in lower fuel consumption.

Punched anti-slip plates and handrails ensure supe-rior grip and added safety when performing mainte-nance checks and services. The ECR235E is further equipped with foldable guardrails to ensure safer access and ease of trans-portation. b

Urethane Supply Com-pany, a world leader in plas-tic repair and refinishing for vehicles, revealed its new 6066-CG Nitrocell Nitrogen Plastic Welder today at it booth No. 961 at the NACE/CARS Show at the Cobo Centre in Detroit, Michigan. Urethane Supply introduced the first commercialized ni-trogen plastic welder to the collision repair industry in 2006, and the new 6066-CG Nitrocell is the most ad-vanced generation of nitro-gen welder yet.

Nitrogen welding is the fastest and most efficient way of repairing damaged thermoplastic vehicle body panels, and the new 6066-CG Nitrocell is now the most advanced nitrogen welder on the market. The 6066-CG is designed to generate its own nitrogen gas from shop air and requires no onboard air compressor. Compared to other welders, the new 6066-CG is lighter in weight, easier for technicians to ma-noeuvre into position and features an easy-to-handle welding torch that can get into tight spots without causing user fatigue.

“Repair shops want to minimize repair times and maximize profits, and we’ve designed the new 6066-CG Nitrocell Nitrogen Welder to help them do just that,” Kurt Lammon, presi-dent of Urethane Supply Company, said. “The new unit will help collision spe-cialists reduce cycle times and increase their opportu-

nities to do more profitable labour-based repair of plas-tic components.”

Nitrogen gas welding creates a strong material bond, because it eliminates oxidation of the plastic during the welding pro-cess. Using the shop’s own common air supply, the 6066-CG Nitrocell employs a three-stage filter to clean impurities from the air, and then uses sophisticated membrane technology to extract an endless supply of nitrogen. The resulting welding mechanism cre-ates the strongest plastic welds possible in today’s repair environment.

The 6066-CG’s intui-tive yet precise analogue instrumentation features a control regulator combined with an output pressure gauge and a flow gauge to give the operator total control over the amount of gas used in the welding process. A low-pressure safety switch automatically cuts power to the heating element, protecting it from overheating if the flow drops too low.

“Our flow meter allows shops to achieve and main-tain a high-quality, repeat-able result when repairing virtually all types of plastic components,” Lammon said. “Consistent results help shops meet key per-formance indicators, and that, in turn, drives more business from insurance companies.”

The 6066-CG Nitrocell

Welding System is also en-gineered with an integrated airless welder for smooth-ing out welds and repairing thermoset polyurethane. The system comes fully as-sembled and ready to use right out of the box. The unit comes with a variety of accessories and the in-dustry’s widest selection of plastic welding rods.

“The 6066-CG Nitro-cell Welding System gives shops more flexibility in the estimating process, helps save total losses and gives owners an edge on their competition,” Lam-mon said. “The added re-pair capability provided by the new Nitrocell welder also provides shops with a bargaining tool to use when working with insur-ance adjusters.”

Unlike common two-part plastic repair systems that employ separate mate-rials to create a bond and require a long curing time, nitrogen plastic welding re-unites the original plastic material to itself, forming a superior molecular attach-ment that can immediately be primed and painted.

“Two-part repair systems are like putting a permanent bandage on top of plastic damage,” Lammon said. “Our nitrogen welding sys-tem actually heals the ma-terial, removes the scar and does so in much less time than two-part systems, and all at a fraction of the cost.”

With the 6066-CG Nitro-cell, workers can also do

repairs that are not possi-ble with adhesives, such as mounting tabs, grille bars, high-stress areas, flexible tabs and fender liners. It is suitable for virtually all plastic component repairs.

The 6066-CG Nitrocell Nitrogen Welder’s features also include a melt-proof silicone and fiberglass braided hot air welder hose; a heavy-duty, Amer-ican-made welding cart with built-in holders for heating elements; tools and

supplies; and an air mani-fold with auxiliary outlets for air tool attachments. The nitrogen generator can also be used to fill tires or supply gas to other appara-tus requiring nitrogen.

The standard 6066-CG Nitrocell Nitrogen Welder product package includes the following: one EZ Weld 3.0 Hot Air Plastic Welder; one Ni-trocell Nitrogen Genera-tor; one tear drop airless welding tip; one standard

airless welding tip; one 10-inch (25 cm) x 10-inch (25 cm) x 3/32-inch (2.4 mm) polypropylene sheet; one stainless steel wire brush; one roll of aluminium tape, 2-inch (5 cm) x 10-yards (9.1 m); and one hand seamer tool as well as a variety of polyurethane, polypropyl-ene, ABS, TPO, nylon and polycarbonate welding rod starter rolls. b

Weldex, the largest crawler crane hire com-pany in the UK, has taken delivery of the first of two Terex Superlift 3800 lat-tice boom crawler cranes. The first of this Terex model to arrive in the UK, it will be followed by a second scheduled for de-livery to Weldex in No-vember 2015.

In the 650 t capacity class, with a load moment of 8484 metre tonnes, the new cranes replace two

existing 600 t CC 2800-1 crawler cranes first pur-chased in 2008.

Weldex Managing Di-rector, Dougie McGilvray, comments: “These latest acquisitions are part of an ongoing investment plan designed to ensure that the Weldex fleet reflects the latest technology and most recent innovations. There is also a growing demand on many proj-ects for cranes that are no more than seven years

old.”Headquartered in In-

verness with a depot in Alfreton, Derbyshire, the company was founded in 1979 by the McGilvray family and now operates across the UK and inter-nationally.

“The Superlift 3800 was our preferred option for a number of reasons,” continues McGilvray. “It was not simply the extra capacity over our exist-ing 2800-1’s, which had given excellent service since 2008, but its lower transport weight and abil-ity to erect longer boom systems unassisted.” b

PortsToronto is pleased to announce that the

new pedestrian tunnel to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is now open to the public, providing travellers with a fast, reliable and convenient way to access the airport.

Since it was first opened in 1939, Billy Bishop Air-port has only been accessi-ble by ferry. Today, a new 853-foot pedestrian tunnel runs across the Western Channel of Lake Ontario, constructed within the bedrock 100 feet beneath the surface of the lake. The tunnel will serve as the first land-link between Toronto’s mainland and the island, which was con-structed by a predecessor agency of PortsToronto in the 1930s using land re-claimed from Toronto Har-bour.

“After years of plan-ning and three years of construction by PCL Con-struction, the PortsTo-ronto team is thrilled to announce that the new Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport pedestrian tunnel is now open,” said Mark McQueen, Chairman of PortsToronto. “The tunnel will improve the already swift travel experience for

the 2 million local passen-gers who pass through our airport each year en route to destinations around the world. Although it took 80 years to come to fruition, I am proud that it will serve the City of Toronto for the next 80, at least. That PortsToronto was able to deliver this unique piece of infrastructure without a penny of taxpayer dollars is just the icing on the cake. Our passengers will love the convenient and predict-able access to an airport that connects Toronto to the world.”

The tunnel, which cost $82.5 million to build, was funded through a public-private partnership agree-ment between PortsToron-to, Forum Equity Partners and lead contractor PCL. Ultimately, the cost of the tunnel will be paid for by airport users via a portion of the existing Airport Im-provement Fee.

“The efficient move-ment of the travelling pub-lic in the Greater Toronto Area and the rest of Cana-da is a key priority for the Government of Canada,” said the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Trans-port. “Our government was very supportive of the

regulatory and legislative changes required for this project to move forward, and I am so pleased to see this much-needed tunnel open to the public today.”

Travellers arriving from the mainland will enter a new one-storey pavilion that serves as the entryway to the tunnel. From a bank of six elevators inside the pavilion, they will then de-scend 100 feet to access the tunnel and travel along the horizontal passageway via four automated sidewalks moving at a speed of 2.3 kilometres per hour.

At the south end of the horizontal expanse of the tunnel, travellers can choose to ascend to the is-land atrium and airport’s check-in area using one of the longest escalator sys-tems in Canada, one of two elevators, or a staircase of 153 steps to the top.

The complete journey through the tunnel will take less than six minutes and will dramatically im-prove passenger flow and reduce line-ups given that passengers will now travel on their own schedule and not have to arrive and de-part in groups according to the ferry’s schedule. The airport’s ferry will continue

to operate as normal for those who prefer to use it.

Since the start of its construction, the tunnel’s unique design and con-struction have won it the International Tunneling & Underground Space As-sociation’s 2014 Specialist Tunneling Project of the Year Award and the Tun-neling Association of Cana-da’s 2014 Canadian Project of the Year Award.

“The design of the tun-nel marks the first time in Canada that a drift sys-tem was used to construct the arched crown design of the main tunnel,” said Geoffrey Wilson, CEO, PortsToronto. “This inno-vative design provided for the incorporation of three City of Toronto water and sewer mains to service To-ronto Island and, in so do-ing, saved Toronto taxpay-ers more than $10 million in duplicate construction costs. We are immensely proud of the collaboration that was involved in build-ing this tunnel be it with the city, our construction partners or stakeholders and of our efforts to com-plete the project with as little disruption as possible to the surrounding com-

A life-size model of a Nieuport 17 hangs from the ceiling of the island-side atrium. With a wingspan of more than 26 feet and measuring more than 18 feet in length, the model took 1,200 hours to build and replicates nearly every detail of the Nieuport 17 that Canadian war hero and the airport’s namesake, William “Billy” Bishop, piloted.

munity. We are looking forward to realizing the benefits that this tunnel will have on our travellers, our operations and Toronto overall.”

“The pedestrian tun-nel to the Billy Bishop To-ronto City Airport provides residents and visitors alike the level of customer ser-vice and convenience one would expect of a world class city like Toronto. This pedestrian tunnel is a perfect example of how private and public partner-ships can help reimagine Toronto and build up the city. I want to thank all of those involved in getting us to today,” said Mayor John Tory. “This piece of infrastructure also repre-sents what can happen when the City of Toronto collaborates with our part-ners like PortsToronto. We were able to coordinate construction and incorpo-rate much-needed water main work into this proj-ect, saving money and time in duplicate construction and eliminating the need for more construction in later years.”

The tunnel also incorpo-rates leading-edge technol-ogy, with 42 large digital screens installed through-out the pavilion, atrium and tunnel that will pro-vide travellers with infor-mation and work in con-junction with the Billy app which offers concierge-type services and curated con-tent to assist with travel. Launching this August, the app will offer such content as traffic, weather, direc-tions, estimated wait times at various points in the airport, travel suggestions, restaurant recommenda-tions and flight informa-tion. All areas of the tunnel are also equipped with free WiFi to enable travellers to work and communicate without interruption. Background:

Excavation of the main-land and island shafts of

the tunnel began in early 2012. Once digging was complete, two purpose-built, 36-foot-long, Cana-dian-made tunnel boring machines dubbed “Chip” and “Dale” were engaged to bore the seven inter-locking “tunnel drifts,” forming the unique arched crown design of the main tunnel, a first in Canadian innovation. The first tunnel drifts broke through to the island side in January 2013, marking a significant milestone in the tunnel’s construction. By August 2013, the hori-zontal core of the tunnel had been fully excavated, establishing the first land link between mainland Toronto and the island. By May 2014, the water-proofing and reinforcing steel layers of the tunnel had been installed, allow-ing 2,000 cubic metres of concrete to be poured to create the tunnel’s con-crete liner. The concrete was poured in 16 sections by a 110-tonne, 12-me-tre, arch-shaped hydrau-lic machine that formed an artificial surface onto which the concrete was pumped to create the tun-nel’s ceiling and walls. In late 2014, construction on the tunnel’s connect-ing structures was well underway, with the pavil-ion’s structural steel and roof deck and the island-side atrium’s roofing sys-tem complete.

In early 2015, the tun-nel’s 18 segments of es-calators, which form one of the longest escalator systems in Canada, were installed completing yet another major milestone in the tunnel’s construction. On May 29, the Indepen-dent Certifier for the tunnel project issued a “substan-tial completion” certificate to PortsToronto, PCL Con-struction and Forum Eq-uity Partners, signalling the start of the final stage of construction for the tun-nel. Since then, all of the tunnel’s elevators have been commissioned, the integral safety and security systems installed, and the leading-edge Digital Out-of-Home advertising platform integrated throughout the structure.Historical Features:

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is named af-ter one of Canada’s most successful flying aces and recipient of the Victoria Cross, William Avery “Bil-ly” Bishop. As part of the

tunnel experience and as a tribute to the airport’s namesake, passengers will be invited to learn more about Bishop through unique historical elements and artifacts that have been set up in the tunnel’s pavilion and atrium.

Upon entering the mainland pavilion, pas-sengers will be greeted by a life-size bronze statue of Bishop standing alongside another of Canada’s great-est flying aces, William George Barker. On the op-posite end of the tunnel, as travellers ascend the escalators to the atrium, a life-size model of a Nie-uport 17 suspended from the ceiling will come into view. With a wingspan of more than 26 feet and measuring more than 18 feet in length, the model took 1,200 hours to build and replicates nearly ev-ery detail of the Nieuport 17 that Bishop piloted. The atrium also features an exhibit dedicated to Bishop with display cas-es featuring artifacts and memorabilia, along with a photographic retrospec-tive that doubles as a seat-ing area.About PortsToronto

John Deere continues to update its K-Series wheel loader lineup to adhere to Final Tier 4 emissions stan-dards and better meet the needs of today’s operators. The 444K, 524K and 544K utility-class wheel loaders are designed for jobs that demand extra agility and ability on the jobsite or at the farm.

“The goal in updating our K-Series utility wheel loaders was to build upon the reliable plat-form of the previous mod-els, while offering more customer-inspired pro-ductivity features to in-crease uptime, including easier daily checks and maintenance access and the ability to work in all areas—regardless of air quality conditions,” said Chris Cline, product mar-keting manager for utility wheel loaders, John Deere Construction & Forestry. “Whether you are a road builder, site developer, landscaper, or running cattle or dairy operation, the new utility loaders provide best in class sta-bility and hydraulic con-trols, maximum uptime, and unmatched service-ability. Our customers can do more with these ma-chines.”

The implementation of a John Deere PowerTech EPA Final Tier 4 (FT4)/EU Stage IV diesel engines enable op-erators to work anywhere, even in nonattainment ar-eas. The PowerTech engine delivers impressive torque, 444K (124 hp), 524K (141 hp), 544K (163 hp), to help maintain good boom and bucket speed in and out of the pile for heaped loads, even in wet or hard-packed material.

The K-Series loaders implement excavator-style hydraulics that sense the load and deliver the flow needed for smooth com-bined functions and fast work cycles. A PowerShift torque-converter transmis-sion employs Smart-Shift technology to continuously evaluate speed and load conditions. The 544K’s new standard five-speed transmission with lockup torque converter in gears 2–5 offers increased accel-eration, speeds cycles, and optimizes power and fuel

efficiency during transport, roading, and ramp climb-ing.

John Deere under-stands operator comfort is critical to productivity, which is why the three models come standard with several features to make the operator’s job easier. These improve-ments include an en-hanced multifunction monitor with diagnostic and maintenance infor-mation, tinted glass and a Level 1 sound suppres-sion package that reduces engine noise heard by the operator and bystanders, thus decreasing opera-tor fatigue and increasing productivity on job sites that are in or around ar-eas that have noise re-strictions.

Similar to other John Deere construction ma-chines, operators will find comfort in the high-back air-ride seat of the K-Series. A keyless start and effort-less push-button operation of a number of machine

functions allows the opera-tor to get extra productivity from their wheel loader. Operators will also have two optional radio offer-ings – an AM/FM/WB with auxiliary port or an AM/FM/WB and XM Satellite Radio with auxiliary port, USB and Bluetooth connec-tivity.

To eliminate down-time, the K-Series models are equipped with remote battery terminals for faster and easier jump-starting. The engine compartment can remain closed and locked to charge the bat-teries, which reduces the threat of vandalism. These machines also feature an optional right-side platform and steps for easy access to the right side of the ma-chine.

The utility class wheel loaders continue to boast best-in-class onboard diag-nostics providing detailed troubleshooting informa-tion for faster diagnosis and repair. Like their pre-decessors, the models will feature John Deere’s exclu-sive Quad-Cool system that is unequaled in providing the highest cooling efficien-cy and ease of cleaning. b
