4.CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REQUIRED PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS.

5.CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPLY WITH THE UNIVERSITY'S CONFINED SPACE PERMIT PROCEDURE

WHICH INCLUDES SUBMITTING THE FORMS ELECTRONICALLY ON A DAILY BASIS. ONCE

APPROVAL IS RECEIVED, THE CONTRACTOR MAY ENTER THE CONFINED SPACE.

6.AT THE END OF THE PROJECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAN ALL MECHANICAL ROOMS

WHERE WORK IS PERFORMED. ALL DIRT AND DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM ANY ROOMS

WHERE WORK WAS PERFORMED REGARDLESS WHETHER THE DIRT WAS THE RESULT OF

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES.

1. ROWAN SHALL CONTRACT A THIRD PARTY CERTIFIED WELD TESTER TO PERFORM MAGNETIC

PARTICLE (MP) TESTING ON ALL NEW STEAM AND CONDENSATE PIPING INSTALLED IN THIS

PROJECT. ALL PIPING SHALL BE REQUIRED TO PASS A 100% RADIOGRAPHY (X-RAY)

EXAMINATION. ALL WELDS OF THE CARRIER PIPE WELDS SHALL BE INSPECTED.

2. ROWAN SHALL CONTRACT A THIRD PARTY TO PERFORM SOIL COMPACTION TESTS, CONCRETE

COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TESTS, AND PIPE WELD TESTS THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT. THE

FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY OF THE TESTING REQUIREMENTS.

A. EXCEPT WHERE INDICATED OTHERWISE, CONCRETE PIPE ANCHORS AND BUILDING WALLS AND

FLOORS SHALL BE TESTED, CONCRETE SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF

4,000 PSI AT 28 DAYS. SLUMP SHALL NOT EXCEED 4 INCHES.

B. WHERE CONDITIONS ARISE WHICH ARE NOT SPECIFICALLY COVERED BY THESE NOTES AND

SPECIFICATIONS, THE

CURRENT STANDARDS OF ACI 301, 304, 305, 306, 311, 315 AND 318 AND ASTM C94 SHALL

GOVERN.

C. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AND POUR CYLINDERS TO TEST COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH IN

ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C31 AND ASTM C39. ONE CYLINDER SHALL BE TESTED AT 7 DAYS,

AND 3 CYLINDERS SHALL BE TESTED AT 28 DAYS.

D. CYLINDERS SHALL BE TAKEN FROM ALL LOADS OF CONCRETE USED FOR THE PROJECT.

3. PROVIDE THIRD PARTY TO THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF FLOWABLE FILL TO ENSURE THAT

IT MEETS A MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH INDICATED IN THE SPECIFICATION, 28 DAYS

AFTER APPLICATION.

4. SOIL COMPACTION TEST - THE PIPE TRENCH ABOVE THE FLOWABLE FILL THAT SURROUNDS

THE PIPE SHALL HAVE BACKFILL PLACED IN LAYERS NOT MORE THAN 8 INCHES LOOSE

THICKNESS AND COMPACTED TO 95% MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH MODIFIED

PROCTOR TEST, ASTM D1557.

5. SEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROL MONITORING SHALL BE PERFORMED BY A LICENSED CIVIL

ENGINEER.

4THE CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE PNEUMATICALLY TESTED TO THE DESIGN PRESSURE INDICATED.

THE CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE TESTED TO PRESSURES INDICATED ON THE TABLE BELOW.

APPLY A 5 PSI CHARGE TO THE PIPE AND INSTALL A PRESSURE GAGE ON EACH PIPE.

HYDRO TEST STEAM AND CONDENSATE PIPING. THE CARRIER PE SHALL BE HYDRAULICALLY

TESTED TO THE DESIGN PRESSURE INDICATED IN THE TABLE.

6PNEUMATIC TEST THE STEAM AND CONDENSATE CASINGS TO 5 PSI. SEE SPECIFICATION FOR

DETAILED REQUIREMENTS.

7INSULATE PIPING INSIDE THE BUILDING AND APPLY PIPE LABELS.

8CONDENSATE PIPE SHALL BE SCH. 160 SEAMLESS TO ASTM A106, GRADE B.

9STEAM PIPE SHALL BE SCH. 80 BELOW 2-INCHES, SCHEDULE 40 FROM 2.5-INCH THRU

10-INCH, AND STANDARD WEIGHT FOR PIPING LARGER THAN 12-INCHES, ERW TO ASTM A53

GRADE B. SEAMLESS MAY BE SUBSTITUTED IN ALL SIZES.

10THE PIPING FOR THIS PROJECT SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF INTERNATIONAL

MECHANICAL CODE AND ASME B31.1.

1THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ASPECTS OF THEIR SUBCONTRACTOR'S

WORK. THIS WILL INCLUDE SCHEDULING, QUALITY CONTROL, SAFETY, ETC.

ALL WELDING SHALL BE PREFORMED BY CERTIFIED WELDERS.

3ALL STEAM AND CONDENSATE PIPING SHALL BE INSTALLED AS INDICATED ON PLANS. REMOVE

EXISTING PIPING WHERE

INDICATED ON THE PLANS. WHERE PIPING IS ABANDONED, FILL PIPES WITH FLOWABLE FILL.

1. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SITE SAFETY AND SHALL FOLLOW OSHA, GLOUCHESTER

COUNTY, CITY OF GLASSBORO AND OWNERS SAFETY STANDARDS, CODES, RULES AND

CONDITIONS FOR CONTRACTORS.

2. CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE ALL DEMOLISHED MATERIAL FROM THE SITE DAILY.

3. CONTRACTOR SHALL CHECK WITH THE OWNER FOR THE PRESENCE OF ASBESTOS

CONDENSATE RECOVERY SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS

NORMAL Sequence of Operation Condensate Return Boiler Feed SystemDescription:

REFER TO DRAWING M-6.02 FOR DESCRIPTION AND FLOW DIAGRAM OF NORMAL OPERATION

1. Low pressure (0-15 psig) and medium pressure (approximately 45 psig to 70 psig) steamsystem condensate returns are collected in mechanical spaces at the various buildingsthroughout campus and pumped at varying intervals back to the central plant as PumpedCondensate (PC).

2. High pressure (approximately 70 - 150 psig) steam condensate return is usually piped fromthermodynamic trap discharge directly back to the central plant as High Pressure Return(HPR) from mechanical rooms and also from steam piping traps in manholes. In some cases,HPR is discharged to flash tanks in building mechanical rooms then pumped back as PC.

4. The North HPR and South HPR cond loops are piped directly to a high pressure return ventedflash tank. The high temperature of the HPR flashes to steam as it hits the vented tank. Theflash tank discharge is piped from a vented loop at midway up the flashtank to the inletcondensate header of the surge tank.

5. PC coming back to the central plant from various sources will lift to a header then dropsdown into the vented atmospheric surge tank to be installed on the mezzanine. Any flashsteam is vented from the surge tank. Makeup water is to be added at the surge tank whenthe surge tank level drops. A Low Pressure (LPC) mix of condensate and makeup water (asrequired) is transferred from the surge tank through variable speed, high temperature rated,transfer pumps (TP-1&2) matched to the inlet valve flow and pressure requirements of theDeaerator (DA).

6. The DA preheats the condensate and removes the oxygen and dissolved gasses and leavesthe DA as Boiler Feed Water (BFW).

7. The preheated BFW drops to the three Boiler Feed Water Pumps (BP-1,2,3) where it ispumped back to the boilers.

DESCRIPTION OF OPERATIONNORMAL OPERATIONAL ARRANGEMENT.

BASIC DESCRIPTION:

1. HPR RETURNS TO VENTED FLASH TANK THEN ATMOSPHERIC CONDENSATE FLOWS TO SURGE TANK

HEADER.

2. PUMPED CONDENSATE RETURNS FROM NORTH, SOUTH AND CHILLER LOOPS AND DROPS THROUGH

SURGE TANK HEADER TO SURGE TANK.

3. MAKEUP WATER IS ADDED THROUGH THE SURGE TANK.

4. NOTE THAT MAKEUP WATER TO THE DEAERETOR IS OPEN BUT SHOULD BE SET AS EMERGENCY OR

SECONDARY TO SURGE TANK FILL.

5. SURGE TANK IS VENTED. DISCHARGE DROPS BY GRAVITY TO 10" LOW PRESSURE RETURN HEADER,

WHICH IS VENTED TO THE FLASH TANK VENT.

6. FLUID SENSOR IN HEADER ENABLES TRANSFER PUMPS. POSITION TO ALLOW ADEQUATE TIME TO

DISABLE PUMPS WHEN FLUID LEVEL IS TOO LOW.

7. CONDENSATE DROPS TO TRANSFER PUMPS.

8. THE ACTIVE TRANSFER PUMP PUMPS CONDENSATE TO DEAERATOR. THE DEAERATOR IS SLIGHTLY

PRESSURIZED AND HAS RESTRICTED VENT.

9. SODIUM SULFITE IS ADDED AT THE DEAERATOR.

10. LOW PRESSURE STEAM IS ADDED TO THE DEAERATOR.

11. THE DEAERATOR PREPARES THE CONDENSATE FOR RETURN TO THE BOILER.

12. OVERFLOW DRAINAGE IS THROUGH THE SURGE TANK AND FLASH TANK OVERFLOW OPENINGS AND

PIPING AND OR THE DA OVERFLOW TRAP. OVERFLOW DRAINAGE CAN ALSO OCCUR THROUGH THE

HEADER PIPE SURGE OVERFLOW DRAIN LINE, BUT IS NOT LIKELY DURING NORMAL OPERATION.

13. THE BOILER FEED WATER IS DISCHARGED FROM THE DEAERATOR TO THE BOILER FEED PUMPS.

14. THE ACTIVE BOILER FEED PUMP PUMPS THE BOILER FEED WATER TO THE ACTIVE BOILERS.

CONDENSATE RECOVERY SYSTEM SURGE TANK BYPASS OPERATION

DESCRIPTION OF OPERATIONBYPASS ARRANGEMENT.

NOTE: BYPASS OPERATION IS FOR EMERGENCY USE WHEN THE SURGE TANK IS NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO

MAINTENANCE OR MALFUNCTION. THIS MODE DOES NOT HOLD THE CONDENSATE LONG AND MAY BE

STRESSFUL ON THE TRANSFER PUMPS DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE OF RETURNING CONDENSATE. THE

VENTED OVERSIZED 10" LPC PIPE AND AND HIGH PRESSURE RETURN FLASH TANK PROVIDE SOME

DEGREE OF PROTECTION, BUT OPERATING IN THIS MODE SHOULD BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM.

BASIC DESCRIPTION:

1. SURGE TANK IS VALVED OFFLINE.

2. HPR RETURNS TO VENTED FLASH TANK.

3. PUMPED CONDENSATE RETURNS FROM NORTH, SOUTH AND CHILLER LOOPS AND DROPS THROUGH

SURGE TANK HEADER BYPASSING SURGE TANK TO 10" LOW PRESSURE RETURN HEADER, WHICH IS

VENTED TO THE FLASH TANK VENT.

4. FLUID SENSOR IN HEADER ENABLES TRANSFER PUMPS. POSITION TO ALLOW ADEQUATE TIME TO

DISABLE PUMPS WHEN FLUID LEVEL IS TOO LOW.

5. CONDENSATE DROPS TO TRANSFER PUMPS.

6. THE ACTIVE TRANSFER PUMP PUMPS CONDENSATE TO DEAERATOR.

7. MAKEUP WATER IS ADDED AT THE DEAERATOR.

8. SODIUM SULFITE IS ADDED AT THE DEAERATOR.

9. LOW PRESSURE STEAM IS ADDED TO THE DEAERATOR.

10. THE DEAERATOR PREPARES THE CONDENSATE FOR RETURN TO THE BOILER.

11. OVERFLOW DRAINAGE IS THROUGH THE FLASH TANK OVERFLOW OPENING AND PIPING AND OR THE

DA OVERFLOW TRAP. OR THROUGH THE HEADER PIPE SURGE OVERFLOW DRAIN LINE.

12. THE BOILER FEED WATER DROPS FROM THE DEAERATOR TO THE BOILER FEED PUMPS.

13. THE ACTIVE BOILER FEED PUMP PUMPS THE BOILER FEED WATER TO THE ACTIVE BOILERS.

14. BOIELRS CREATE THE STEAM THAT IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS.

15. CONDENSATE PUMPS THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS RETURN THE CONDENSATE TO BOILER ROOM

16. PROCESS REPEATS.
