Charity Report

Miss Ballieux Writes: Thank you for all of the support given towards our charity

work before Christmas.

In total we raised £542.68 from Christ-mas Jumper Day and the sale of Christ-mas cards. The money was split equally between the

Save the Children and Wings of Hope charities.

All of the shoe boxes that were donated were also giv-en to Wings of Hope. They were sent to a school in Chennai and the children were very grateful. We have some videos and pictures of the children opening the shoe boxes, where you can see how happy they were. We were personally thanked for our support by the children and the school and we feel so pleased that we

made their Christmas.

The children have had time this week, including during an assembly, to view the videos and they were very moved by them. Some Reception pupils commented on the fact that the children were very grateful for their shoe boxes because they looked "so happy" and that do-

nating them demonstrated the values of our school.

We are very pleased with the impact this has had on our children and on the children in Chennai and hope to

maintain our links with the charity in the future.

Creative Writing and Handwriting Competition This week all students from Reception to Year 2 participated in a Handwriting competition and students in Years 3-6 will participate in a Creative Writing and Handwriting competition during an English lesson in class. The competition is a chance for students to display their skills in writ-ing and handwriting and is an annual competition. Certificates for first, second and third will be

awarded internally during phase assemblies in the future.

Our Value for this

week is

Seal of Approval

ISA Boys Football Tournament

Om Shah and Keshav Chandrasekar writes: On the 15th of January 2015, a group

of determined football players went to play the ISA tournament in Barnet power

league. We were split into two teams and we played very well. We had some great

goals by Rohin Shah, Priyesh Shah, Keshav Chandrasekar and Yash Patel. We also had

some great keeping by Rahul Kumar, Om Shah and Girish Pindoria. There was also

some great defending by Kushal Patel, Aditya Odhavji and Eashan Patel. We had

gone through many hard players and played six teams per group. We have given Man

of the Tournament to two people, Priyesh—for his determination and good shots,

and Rahul—For great goalkeeping. The best moments of the tournament was winning

two matches. Areas we would like to develop is to have more encouragement and

passing into space.

We would like to give a special thanks to Mr Downey and Mr Stenborg for taking us

and all other teachers working behind the scenes.

Ready to learn every day

The joint NAHT and Family Action leaflet has been compiled using

the expertise of both NAHT members and Family Action staff. The

internet can play an important part in many aspects of school life,

including teaching, learning and improving communication. How-

ever, if not used properly, it can be dangerous or harmful. This

simple guide includes hints and tips for both parents and pupils.

Hints and Tips for Parents:

Technology is constantly changing and young people are continually learning – keep up to date on

latest developments so you know about the risks.

Online safety applies to all types of devices – PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones, e-readers and

online gaming

As technology becomes more portable, set guidelines for where your child could/should use their

device

Treat online safety in the same way as you would offline safety such

as stranger danger, crossing the road etc.

Set up internet security so children can’t access websites with adult

and inappropriate content

Don’t write anything online that you wouldn’t say in person. Com-

ments made on social media and/or public web pages/forums

could reflect badly on your child

Check out the IT policies, particularly the online safety policy, issued

by your child’s school and adhere to them

Cyber bullying should be treated in the same way as other forms of bullying; contact your child’s

school to agree a plan of dealing with it

Be aware that ‘sexting’ increasingly involves younger children, some as young as 10.

Try to establish a system which allows your child to talk to you about anything they feel uncomforta-

ble about online.

Things to discuss with children

Where is it acceptable to use your portable device? Bedroom? School?

Who should you talk to if you feel uncomfortable about something you have seen online? Eg. Parent,

teacher or responsible adult

Don’t spend too long online; make sure you get some physi-

cal exercise every day

Keep passwords safe – don’t write them down and change

them regularly

What personal information is it appropriate to post online?

How do you report cyber-bullying? Take a screen grab of

any posts so these can be seen at a later date if needed

How do you know the people you are talking to online, are

they who you think they are?

What is the difference between a ‘real life’ friend and an

‘online friend’

When is it sensible to meet up with an online friend?
