Semiotic meaning • There is a lot of semiotic meaning that is hidden within the music video, the song sweet

disposition by the temper trap resents life and how relationships have there ups and downs but we can’t give up. The music video expresses how the band and the artist are felling. The magical and happy feel is set through the whole music video this can aslo be looked at through the sadness and the friend zone feel but the fact that you can let it get you down.

• the giruite at the beginning sets the upbeat toe with the continuous chord that leads into the lyrics. The singing starts off slow and soft. The drum beat set in gradually, brining in the beat of the whole music the artist voice is high pitched for the first stanza of lyrics, throught the first stanza into the chours gets progressifly louder and more intense and more emphasis is put onto words, such as A MOMENT, A LOVE. The vocals are held to create build up and tention building before going back into the quiter lyrics.

• There are some main lyrics which are A MOMENT A LOVE A DREAM A LAUGH A KISS A CRY. Essentually the artist is getting us to focus on these words as they are repaeated so much. The audinace is uncertain of who that subject is whetther it is the artist reffering to someone eles like a lover that he wwantts to stay with in a relationship in hard times or himself overcoming the feats in life. In my opinion the situations varyfor all audiances but the song is uplifting.

Camera Within the music video we see a lot of shot the three shots that are use the most is a wide angle, close up, medium close up. All of theses show the audience specific thing that correlate with the music.

The close ups in shot numbers 8,10,12 all show reference to the lyrics. In shot 8, it wont stop till its over and we see the drum splitting as fracturing, in shot 10, I wont stop to surrender on the artist mouth and eyes. In 12, the song ends and the drum disappears along with the cord showing the end of the relationship.

Editing • Throughout the whole music video it is a range of jump cut editing crossed over

with slow motion and juxtaposition. There is also a lot of repetition editing. The slow motion editing is shown, to go with the beat of the music, when the drum sticks are fighting through the air they are traveling at the same time as the artist is holding the lyric desperation, it is a long hold, we then see the drum sticks hit the man holding the symbol sped up, on the lyrics just stay there, this a quick snap of these lyrics and shows the music change with the beat again making the audience feel in torch with the music and the lyrics.

• There is also a lot of replay of certain images again because the song does repeat its self, so the images we see come back again and again also creating a big impact on the audience. The images however all role together and there is certain fee flowing about the whole video.

• The cross over editing as is in time with the beat and the base drum which this is conventional when in all indie pop videos, I think during our video we should look at this a use this effectively with the song that we choses.

Sound • Through out the whole music video there is a lot of diegetic sound that we

hear, we hear and see the band playing and singing the song there is lip sinking as well as a element of live performance.

• However there is also a lot of non –diegetic sound that the audience cant hear, but the band members would be able to hear, there are certain sounds such as the drum fracturing, we would normally here a loud crack and thud, we would also hear the mirror shatter and break.

• however this forms to the indie pop genre and very conventional that we only hear what the band are saying through there lyrics, it also creates emphasis on what they are saying compared with that if we heard a big crash and the mirror breaking, which would distracted the audiences attention.

Page 6: sweet disposition

Mise-on-sene • The background to the music video is very sterile, it again creates that calm feel

but also gives nothing way about the main artist and how he is feeling, apart from when we see him show emotion through is body language.

• All the band are shown throughout the music video and they are all shown in there normal clothing. The clothing they have gone for is very unconventional we generally don’t see this in the pop genre, however it is very convectional for the indie genre, and in some places there is an overlap which we see.

• they also use real instruments and they have different unconventional props that they use, we see a drum with legs a guitar going through glass on a cord, a the beginning and end we see the drum going off the building and the cord being cut, these are all unconventional things that isn't normal in the pop indie genre, however it is again connoting how the artist is feeling . Showing us the audience the conventions that to this love relationship, frendship break down.

Genre • The genre category that this music video fits into is the indie pop genre. It follows

the stereotypical conventions that we see within the genre, these are an alternative rock genre that includes the vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Now throughout this video all we see are these instruments being played by the band.

• Thy are also dressed in very indie pop clothing also following the conventions that we associate with the indie pop genre bellow show a picture of a stereotypical indie pop artist and also comparing this to what the band are dressed in.

Typical indie band

The temper trap forming to convention of the way they dress in this genre.

Theorists • Carlson:• Commercial exhibitionist as it shows the band a lot through the music video, also a

televised bard as it shows deeper meaning for the relationship to get back together.

• Goodwin• Through the beats of the song and the cuts and slow motion as in time with the

beat, but also an element of a narrative and story line, and provides a visual illustration of the artist singing about the relationship is in.

• Shore • Classic story tell motifs about the artist trying to get back into his relationship and

the complications he is facing.
