Despite not being able to see,Walford memorized large partsof the Bible and composing ser-mons in his head, as well as linesof verse. One of those verses waspublished in a newspaper andeventually put to music as“Sweet Hour of Prayer.”Walford was said to spend a

great deal of his time in prayer, which may be why he was movedto write the song title that also isthe theme of this New Year edi-tion of Faith Magazine. We chose this theme because

Fellowship has long championedthe power of positive prayer inour lives. It is the best way to talkto God about whatever is bother-ing you and seek His help to cor-rect it. Prayer brings you closerto the Lord, too, so you can seeevidence of Him working in yourlife. It also strengthens yourfaith, so you know you haveGod’s support when things aren’tgoing just right. Many of our Members have

written us to say what a differ-ence prayer has made in theirlives . . . In some cases turningthem around 180 degrees as theyabandoned bad habits, or creat-ing opportunity where there wasnone. On Page 6, Member Beatrice U.

from Ohio tested out the power ofprayer when she contacted ourSpecial Help Department. “I gotthe most beautiful prayers in themail from you, my FellowshipFriends,” Beatrice wrote us. “Iused them and asked the Lord tohelp my husband find work.

Nothing happened right away, but my mother counseled me tobe patient because God works onHis time, not ours. Then, after amonth out of work, a friendcalled up Jim and told him aboutan opening. Jim applied and gotthe job!”Member Mary K. from

California also says on Page 8 shesuccessfully used her prayers tohelp her get through a medicalprocedure. “I want to tell theWorld your prayers do work, because I prayed over and over, asking God to make this prob-lem come out OK for me. I thankLife-Study Fellowship, too, forhelping my faith grow and makeme strong.”You’ll find this “prayer power”

theme throughout this FAITH,Dear Friend. We hope it kicks offyour New Year on a positive note, and that your powerful, prayerfulmomentum continues all year!

“I Got The Most BeautifulPrayers In The Mail From You!”I grew up going to church with

my mother, a longtime Memberof Fellowship. But, I can’t say Iwas a person of faith until I sawthe Lord working in my life. That happened well along in mylife, after I had married andstarted a family. Oh, I believed inGod, before then. I just didn’tthink of Him that much, otherthan when I occasionally went tochurch during the year. That all changed when my

husband, Jim, lost the job wherehe had worked for over 10 yearsof our life together. He and hisfellow workers all were called into the warehouse one day andinformed the plant would beshutting down. Jim and his bud-dies were shocked. There hadbeen no warning the factory was

going to close. He called me afterhis managers broke the badnews, his voice full of uncertain-ty. “What are we going to do?” weboth asked ourselves. Jim’s pay-check was bigger than mine, sowe relied upon it more to pay thebills. My husband’s employer would

only pay two more weeks of hiswages, so we had to think ofwhat we were going to do rightaway. Jim began calling aroundto his friends, asking them ifthey knew of any openings attheir workplace. I was worried sick. I called up

my mother, who was getting upin years by now, and asked herfor advice. She immediately toldme about Fellowship’s SpecialHelp Department and suggestedI write them for prayer help.Well, I got the most beautiful

prayers in the mail from you, myFellowship Friends. I used themand asked the Lord to help myhusband find work. Nothinghappened right away, but mymother counseled me to bepatient because God works onHis time, not ours. Then, after amonth out of work, a friendcalled up Jim and told him aboutan opening. Jim applied and gotthe job! Now he’s making moremoney than he did before, andwe’re able to save for the future... all thanks to God’s grace andFellowship!

Dear Fellowship, I must takethis time to express my manythanks for your years of serviceto our family. I am now a widowwith two grown daughters. I wasborn into a Christian home andmy daddy subscribed to yourFaith Magazine when I was 12years old! He cherished thatmagazine and encouraged uskids to meditate daily andalways have FAITH with us.Now, I am a senior citizen, 79years old, who reads, prays andstays connected to my partnersin Fellowship. My special concern today is to

request a prayer for constantprogress for my daughter, who isscheduled to interview for a newjob. This is a good opportunityand I know she would be excitedto start work.

Member G. B., South Carolina

Dear Friends, I recently had ahealth scare, but with help fromyour prayers, I got through itOK. I went for a colonoscopy. Iwas scared to death and had nomoney for specialists in theevent I had something reallywrong. But the doctors and nurs-es who participated in my proce-dure were so kind to me. Theytreated me like a celebrity. I feltlike the luckiest lady of 82 in thewhole World! The good newscontinued, because they didn’tfind any cancer, and they gaveme some medicine to make mefeel better. I want to tell the World your

prayers do work, because Iprayed over and over, askingGod to make this problem comeout OK for me. I thank Life-Study Fellowship, too, for help-ing my faith grow and make mestrong. Yes, I had a stroke thatmade me blind in one eye, but Iaccept all that, and thank Godfor my right eye that has sight.I live on a fixed income and

would very much like to sendyou more to support your goodwork, but I try to do what I’mable. I’ve told all the people atmy church about Fellowship andhow nice you’ve been to me.They asked for your address andI gave it to them. A millionwords are not enough to thankyou for what you’ve done for me!

Many folks live with a lot ofpressure these days. Pressure toearn more money. Pressure toraise families in the face of vio-lence. Pressure to fit in with thecrowd. All these pressures often make

us feel tense and ready to snap atthe next person who asks a ques-tion. You may find they evencause you to get muscle achesand cramps in the back andneck, or a headache, DearMember! So, how can you deal with

pressure and prevent that fromhappening? We have an idea . . .Escape to your own “QuietTime” with the Lord. This canbe any time of the day or nightthat you can spare a few minutes-- when you relax and spendsome time having your own con-versation with God. It may be aprayer in which you ask Him forhelp with a problem, or just youtalking to the Lord honestly asyou would a good friend. Just tell Him what’s in your

heart, Dear Friend, what’s goingon in your life; what you’ve beendoing and what you hope to do.Let Him know how your lifechoices are working out for you.In other words, just relax andchat with God. You may think it’s a little odd

at first. But, when you stopbeing self conscious, all of asudden you will notice the ten-

sion within you is fading.Pressures that have built upover time will ease because youare in the Lord’s presence. Hiswarmth will blanket you with asense of peace and calm. That’s the benefit of “”Quiet

Time” with God. He has thepower to banish the pressuresyou feel right now and replacethem with a peaceful sense ofpurpose. You’ll be able to greetthe next day refreshed and readyfor whatever comes your way.How about using a few min-

utes to try “Quiet Time” on yourown, Dear Member? There’s norisk and no cost to this benefi-cial therapy, just the knowledgethat God is a good friend who isalways with you, ready to help.

Talk To God During Your Own “Quiet Time” With Him!

Dear Life-Study Fellowship,Thank you for just being

there. I love you and hope youwill please continue to keep mein your prayers. I still have verylittle money. However, I am step-ping out on faith, and believingin God. I love your prayers andFaith Magazine. I have a smallbusiness that has been closed. Ithink I am going to open it backup. I always remember a longtime ago when you sent me asmall gold cross as a gift. I mis-placed it and really wish I couldget another one. I think I first saw an ad for

Fellowship in a magazine. Itsounded wonderful so I sent inmy address to get my firstFAITH. It made such a differ-ence in my life. I was delightedwith the spiritual message ofFaith Magazine and Fellowshipand my love for you has neverwavered.Even when I moved and lost

track of Fellowship, I never for-got about you. I thought maybe Iwould never hear from youagain, which made me sad. Butsomehow, we were reconnectedafter I saw a Faith Magazine inan office. I think God brought usback together because He knewhow much I missed you. In fact,I am sending you a donation tocelebrate finding Fellowshipagain. I also ask my Fellowship

Friends to pray for me to find a

way to repair my house. It needsa lot of work that I haven’t beenable to get to. I sure could usesome help in getting theserepairs done, but so far nothinghas turned up.I’m also going to request

prayers for God’s help in payingoff my income tax bill, as wellas for a financial blessing. Thatwould help me get going on therepairs I need to make on myhouse. Besides those things, Iask my Fellow Members to joinme in praying for my son to getoff drugs and stay out of jail. He’s such a nice young man, andit breaks my heart to see himthis way. This addiction to drugsis ruining his life and greatlyworrying me.Well, thanks for everything

What goes together like breadand butter? Why, that would be“Friendship” and “Fellowship,”Dear Member. A friend is defined as: one who

is attached to another by affec-tion or esteem; or one that is ofthe same group. The word fellowship is defined

as: a community of interest, activity, feeling or experience.Or, it could be a group of equalsor friends. With those definitions in

mind, we ask you now, whatwould one be without the other?A friend might well be uselesswithout fellowship, andFellowship would be nothingwithout our Friends! In num-bers there is strength, which iswhy we’re always interested ingrowing Fellowship and meetingnew Members. We know there are people out

there who would enjoy readingFaith Magazine, who don’t knowabout it or the benefits ofbelonging to Life-StudyFellowship.So, as we start this New Year,

Dear Member, please try tothink of a couple new peoplewho would enjoy our FAITH!They may be friends, neighborsor family members. Giving thema copy of Faith Magazine afteryou have finished reading it is agood way to recycle those oldeditions. You also could check with

those folks you think wouldenjoy our Fellowship and ask ifyou can send their name in to us,so they can start getting FaithMagazine and all of our inspira-tional reading material. Doing that would make you

one of our many “Friends help-ing Friends” in Fellowship.Because, Dear Friend, you reallyare helping others when youshare the joyful words of FaithMagazine and the wisdom of itsDaily Prayers, meaningful sto-ries and Bible Readings. There’sa little of everything for every-one in each FAITH, so some-thing is bound to catch the eye ofthose with whom it is shared. Yes, there could be no

Fellowship without Friends likeyou, Dear Member. We’re glad tohave you on our team!

When I received a “PersonalAnalysis” form from Life-StudyFellowship, I was a little skepti-cal about what it would do. I keptit for about a month before giv-ing it a second look. I didn’texpect much to come of theform. It just didn’t seem thatimportant. Boy, was I wrong! Now, I’m glad I took the time

to fill out the form and return itto Fellowship. I quickly receivedsome beautiful prayers to helpme ask the Lord to grant megood fortune. In short order, I received a let-

ter from Fellowship. And then, aFaith Magazine came in themail. It was the end-of-the-year“Holiday Issue,” and I reallyenjoyed reading all the stories,Bible Verses and Daily Prayers. It was at that point where I felt

like I was part of something big-ger and more important thanjust me. A place where myFellow Members cared about meand what was happening in mylife. Yes, I had a spiritual awak-ening of sorts and realized Iwanted to work on growing andstrengthening my faith in God. That’s what I worked on in my

first several months of being aMember of Fellowship. I eagerlychecked my mailbox for everynew edition of FAITH and readevery page. I could feel myselfgrowing closer to the Lord, and

as a result I felt more confidentabout starting each day. Friendsnoticed I was more assured, too.I just told them I had found abroad measure of assurance andsupport, through faith in God.His presence in my life is both acomfort and a reminder that Iwant to live up to His teachings. Since I joined Fellowship I

have written off for specialprayer help many times to copewith or solve a pesky problem.I’ve always been pleased withthe quality and honesty of thoseprayers and they really havehelped me out. Well, I just wanted to share

this story about how Fellowshipinspired me. I hope it moves oth-ers who are on the outside totake a look at this wonderfulgroup of people. They care forand care about all of us!

You can’t see, touch, hear orsmell faith. Yet, my faith is veryreal to me and it has held me upand helped me get through somevery trying times. In fact, faith became my salva-

tion many months ago as prob-lems in my life kept adding up. Itseemed like it was one thingafter another, but I wasn’t aboutto let those problems get the bestof me. The more they added up,the more I put my faith to workto keep despair from setting in. Now, I’m happy to say, my

overall situation has taken aturn for the better. I can’t say I’mout of the woods yet, and every-thing in my life isn’t perfect. Butif I continue to concentrate onhope, prayer and faith, I’m onmy way to being the happiestI’ve ever been!I’m not going to list all of the

problems I’ve faced here becausemost of them were a directresult of losing my business. When that happened, I foundmyself not only with financialproblems, but being consumedwith self doubt and family trou-bles as well. Everything relatesto me losing my livelihood. That’s when I decided to focus

my prayers on finding work, andI promised to let God guide me. Iwas ready to accept His bless-ings and faith was the key tothat happening. As it turned out, the loss of

my business was a blessing indisguise. The business had been

doing poorly and I looked at it asa personal failure. It was bring-ing my spirits down lower eachday. With it behind me, I was able

to concentrate on new goals. Iprayed for myself, my familyand for greater prosperity. And, Ihad faith things would turnaround soon. It wasn’t longbefore I ran into an associatefrom my old business, who hadan idea for a new business deal.He said he needed someone withmy talents and asked me tobecome his partner. I readilyagreed. Since then, things have been

going very well in our business,as well as in my family life. Itwill take a while before myfinances are restored to whatthey were, but I know that willcome. Faith and prayer have got-ten me this far, so I’m not aboutto give up on them now!

Psalm 121:5-8 tells us . . . “The Lord is thy keeper: the

Lord is thy shade upon thy righthand. The sun shall not smite thee

by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee

from all evil: he shall preservethy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy

going out and thy coming infrom this time forth, and evenfor evermore.”So, Dear Member, it’s true the

Lord watches what we do. But doyou ever wonder what He’slooking for? Maybe it is to seehow we handle the challenges inour lives. Do we get angry and shout at

loved ones or do we keep a levelhead and deal with things in acalm, collected manner? When we are faced with an

illness within us or someone welove, do we lash out at howunfair life is or do we set aboutdoing the very best we can tohelp ourselves or the personwho is sick? How do we act if we lose a job

or face serious money problems?Do we take out our anger onothers or do we focus our energyon looking for a new job andsaving the money we have onhand? In short, Dear Friend, the

Lord is watching and He wantsus to know we have the power tochange our lives for the better! The Lord gave us the free will

to make decisions that affect ourlives and the lives of others, with His guidance. That lastlittle part is very important, because people don’t alwaysmake the right choices for them-selves and for their loved ones.Sometimes, we may forget thebigger picture that God wants usto see . . . a picture in which weput our needs before the needs ofothers. Now, some may ask, “What

does that mean I should do whenI make important decisions? How will I know the right thingto do?”Well, when we’re faced with

something like that, we maywant to pray about that decisionand ask for the Lord’s help. He isalways waiting to hear ourquestions and offer His advice ina way that can make the rightanswer shine out from all therest.

We Are Free To Make Decisions,And Seek God’s Guidance!

Hymn

Blest be the tie that bindsOur hearts in Christian love;

The fellowship of kindred mindsIs like to that above.

Before our Father’s throneWe pour our ardent prayers;

Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,Our comforts and our cares.

When we asunder part,It gives us inward pain;

But we shall still be joined in heartAnd hope to meet again.

New YearInstead of making A New Year’s resolutionConsider committing To a Biblical solution.

Your promises are Easily brokenEmpty words, Though earnestly spoken.

But God’s Word Transforms the soulBy His Holy SpiritMaking you whole.

As you spend timeAlone with HimHe will change you From within!

Some Members have inquiredabout how they might make abequest to Life-Study Fellowship.Through the years, many

Members have chosen to remem-ber our Fellowship in this spe-cial way and we are truly grate-ful. Some Members have includ-ed Fellowship in their wills, while others have named Life-Study Fellowship in their lifeinsurance policies. If you are interested in making

arrangements through your will,we suggest you talk with anattorney who can explain the taxadvantages and ways to go aboutmaking such a bequest.

Please remember that it is toeverybody’s advantage to have awill. This doesn’t apply just tothe very wealthy. The truth iseveryone who owns any propertyneeds a will to direct who shouldbenefit. Otherwise, some or all of your

property will be split up accord-ing to state law, which may leaveyour property in ways you didnot want or intend. Therefore, whether or not you

include a bequest to Life-StudyFellowship, we encourage you toseek the services of an attorneyto have a will drawn up if youhave not already done so.

Your Legacy Could Be AStronger, Prosperous Fellowship!

Happy New Year!

Dear Lord, for this coming yearJust one request I bring:I do not pray for happiness,Or any earthly thing—I do not ask to understandThe way Thou leadest me,But this I ask: Teach me to doThe thing that pleaseth Thee.

I want to know Thy guiding voice,To walk with Thee each day.Dear Lord make me swift to hearAnd ready to obey. And thus the year I now beginA happy year will be If I am seeking just to doThe thing that pleaseth Thee.
