It is beautiful to see the children engaging so positively with the activities being conducted. The Dress Up Parade on Monday was a huge success with amazing costumes. It never ceases to blow me away just how incredibly creative our parents and families are. I love the community feel of last night’s Open Night celebrations and thank all of those who attended and participated so well. Finally we look forward to the family reading picnic being held later today. The weather appears to be doing the right thing by us, so we should have another community success. Acknowledgement of Mrs Marsland and her hard working Special events team as well as Mrs Fazz and her library team needs to be made. Great work all! SWIMMING LESSONS Well done to all of the students on completing these lessons so successfully. The improvement of skills in our students was really pleasing. The swimming instructors were again very impressed with our Greenwood kids. It is important that the staff also be acknowledged for their support of the children and each other through this period. ASSEMBLY Well done to the team in TA3. I can’t wait to see the video of this assembly. I was unfortunately away due to illness and missed what I am told was nothing short of a brilliant Languages based assembly. I trust that Ibu Clifton was also really impressed. Bagus, Miss Vicary and the gang! BIKE RODEO This event was held last week. We had over 40 cyclists displaying their skills and competing for the grand prize. Congratulations to Keiahlee from TA12 on getting around the entire course with only 2 demerits. Special mention also needs to be made of Ethan from TA10 on his “slow ride”. He even beat our visitor, Angus, from George’s Bike Shop. We thank the team at George’s Bike Shop for their support of our school and supplying the prize for the winner. Thanks to the parents who attended as judges and well done to Mrs Dias and Miss Kingston for organising such a fun event. LOOSE PARTS PLAY EQUIPMENT As covered in my email to all parents, ensure that your children are not removing items from the boxes before or after school. CONGRATULATIONS WARWICK SHS Our local high school has just been announced as the Australian STEM School of the Year. The competition included some high profile schools. This achievement does not surprise me as the Science Department has been doing outstanding work over recent years and engaging our students so well in opportunities. WSHS also has 4 individual finalists in the WA Education Awards. Well done to Mrs Wintle and her team. Please see the two attached releases about these awards. JEANS FOR GENES DAY Last Tuesday students participated in fundraising for this worthy cause which supports research into childhood genetic diseases. For a gold coin donation students wore their jeans to school for the day and raised $423.00. Peter Mulcahy Principal BIKE RODEO (pictured below)

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

SELF

When we feel overwhelmed by the pressures that

life throws at us, such as work deadlines,

managing after school activities or sickness, our

life can feel unbalanced. It’s during these times

that we forget to stop and think about how this

stress, pressure can be managed better because

our mind is focused on the big list that has been

created by ourselves. We know that managing

stress reduces the overwhelming feeling but it

also allows us to function better as a person.

The best way to keep stress away is to have a

balanced life and making sure you keep your

SELF in mind.

SLEEP- trying to go to bed at the same time

every night.

If the worries are playing on your mind, get rid of

them by writing them all down on a piece of

paper.

EXERCISE - Helps to lift your mood, improves

sleeping patterns, increases energy levels,

blocks out negative feelings and increases your

wellbeing.

LEISURE - Do something fun!! It could be

spending some time with a friend, working on a

fun project, going for a bike ride along the coast,

playing golf, reading a book, listening to music or

switching off your technology.

FOOD – Eating a variety of healthy foods such as

fruit and vegetables.

Protein- Beef, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts,

lentils, split peas.

Grains- Bread, rice, cereal, pasta. Maybe

changing it to whole grain since it contains

more fibre.

Dairy- Milk, yoghurt and cheese.

CHOIR NEWS Congratulations to Lily and Jessica for being successful at their audition for the Massed Choir. This is a huge achievement for our school to be represented at such a prestigious event. The girls will represent our school as a compere for the evening and a soloist singer. Well done! Mrs Rebecca Wilson-Boyce Music Teacher
