EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Situation Report on Swine is a collaborative effort of the Regional

Broiler and Swine Information and Early Warning System (BSI-EWS)

Project Team in Central Luzon aimed to present the swine industry

situation in Region III in terms of inventory by age classification by

province and by farm type; volume of production; volume of slaughtered

hogs; supply and disposition; inventory in cold storages; and prices at

farm and retail levels.

The sources of data are the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS),

National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), Department of Agriculture

Regional Field Office III (DA-RFO III), and Local Government Units

(LGUs).

The BAS conducts the quarterly Backyard and Commercial Livestock

and Poultry Surveys (CLPS and BLPS) nationwide to generate

information on inventory of stocks, births, slaughter and deaths. NMIS

monitors accredited slaughter houses and cold storages. Other

slaughter houses accredited and supervised by LGUs and those

unregistered were monitored by Municipal, City, and Provincial

Veterinary and Agricultural Offices in collaboration with BAS Regional

Operations Center III (BAS-ROC III).
