Editor’s letter

It was my great pleasure to recently join the Swingtime team at Mauritius’ first Golf magazine, an exciting publication that is charged to showcase Mauritius as “the preferred” Golfing destination.

In this 7th Issue you will find some very stimulating reading. As international businesses flock to Mauritius, the Mauritian Investment Fund, see pg 28 , provides fascinating insight. In the light of the Global Financial market, we see the role of Human Resources and Talent Acquisition, pg 36, remain a dynamic value added service, as well an interesting analysis on the topic of investing in gold, pg33 Swingtime’s Adopt-A-Golfer program, a thrilling initiative focusing on the development on local talent is high-lighted on pg18 following fantastic coverage on the Swingtime Mauritian Open 2009.

Where does Woods go from here?Posted: December 2, 2009

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Just the other side of the Isleworth ivy, secluded in a bubble of his own making Tiger Woods set the record straight on two fronts Wednesday.

In the wake of numerous published reports of alleged infidelity the world No. 1 relented in his own guarded way: “I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect.”

And for the third consecutive public statement Woods stressed how important his privacy is to himself and his family. In fact, of the five paragraphs Woods penned on Wednesday, three fixated on the issue of privacy and the actions of the media the last few days.

When it came to Woods’ situation with the Florida Highway Patrol and his Friday morning run in with a shrub, a hedge, a fire hydrant and, finally, a neighbor’s tree, there was a compelling public interest, just as there was two years ago when Arjun Atwal was in the wrong place at the wrong time on a central Florida road not far from Isleworth.

Whatever domestic issues Woods and his wife may or may not be having, however, are like Vegas – what happens at One Woods Place stays at One Woods Place. There is no unwritten right to all the juicy details of an athlete’s private life regardless of how zealously the entertainment press pursues or the public craves.

Yet, the questions remain: Where does Woods go from here? What is the best way to move on?

There is precedent for Woods’ crisis management conundrum, call it the mea culpa cameo. You know the drill, superstar gets sideways with the law or the wife or the league, takes his public relations lumps and next thing you know he’s on a couch next to Oprah spilling the goods and asking for forgiveness.

Kobe Bryant – who was charged with a crime, a far more appalling act than anything being lobbed at Woods’ reputation – did it, moved on and won his NBA Championship sans Shaq. Alex Rodriguez – who not only violated baseball’s doping rules but lied about it until he couldn’t lie about it anymore – did it and is now treated like he hung the moon in the Bronx.

Lost in all the “expert” crisis management chatter is the simple truth that contrition and winning are the ultimate tonics to what ails an image. Woods

may want to remain behind the central Florida ivy and let his 316-word final word stand. He may want to cling to the ideal of privacy, but that yacht has sailed.

“His image will take a little hit,” said Steve Stricker, who spent more time paired with or against Woods this year than any other Tour player. “I’d like to see him come on TV and pour it out a little bit ... I’m on that line, that fence. Do we really need to know? That’s the bottom line.”

Do we need to know? Of course not. Will a well-executed and timely televised apology – combined with a rousing victory at, say, Torrey Pines next January – help smooth the transition out of crisis mode? Of course it will.

Some have criticized Camp Tiger since “Black Friday,” saying they didn’t move quick enough to gain the public relations higher ground. Those people don’t know Woods, who has won 14 major championships and 71 Tour titles doing things his way.

Rocky Hambric knows the feeling. Hambric, president of Hambric Sports Management, found himself in a similar situation at this year’s British Open when one of clients, Sandy Lyle, became embroiled in a very public spat with Colin Montgomerie.

“I took heat at the Open Championship for Sandy, there’s nothing you can do,” Hambric said. “The (Daily Mail) writer knew nothing about me or what I advised Sandy to do and still criticized my actions. Same as American writers don’t know anything about Tiger’s situation and keep criticizing Mark (Steinberg, Woods’ manager with IMG). In our situation you have to do the best you can within what the client wants you to do.”

So far it remains clear Woods wants to keep an in-house matter in-house, regardless of what a room full of well-meaning experts tell him. That’s worked for a decade through a series of minor scrapes with controversy, but this is different.

This is K2 to the mole hill that was Fuzzy Zoeller, a Sunday power walk to that triathlon that was that controversial GQ article. But with time, and a cameo on Oprah’s couch to expedite the process, he will recover. Just ask Kobe and A-Rod.

A new tournament featuring LPGA Tour players was announced this week, an event called The Mojo 6 to be played in Jamaica April 15-16, 2010. The Mojo 6 is LPGA-sanctioned, but will not count as an official LPGA event (money won won’t count toward players’ money list rankings; the winner won’t be credited with an LPGA Tour victory).

But the 16 players in the field will get to compete for a $1 million purse. And they’ll get to try a new tournament format, one never before used on a major professional tour. The format is called “Raceway Golf” (and that name is trademarked).

So, what’s Raceway Golf? On Day 1, the 16 LPGA golfers each play three, six-hole matches, the same six holes in each match but with hole setups changing between matches. The players earn points in each match, and at the end of Day 1 the top eight point-earners move on to Day 2.

And on Day 2, the remaining eight compete in a single-elimination tournament bracket, with three match victories required to become champion. The Mojo 6 will be taped for later broadcast on CBS (think of it as a “silly season” tournament in the middle of the year rather than during the offseason).

The Swingtime Mauritius Open took place on the 21st and the 22nd Of November 2009 at the historical Gymkhana Golf Club, the 4th oldest golf club. DAY 1 began as early as 5h00am on Saturday morning with golfers teeing off with great enthusiasm. Golfers were treated to lovely sunny weather, with a moderate breeze presenting an extra challenge to some golfers.

Swingtime, together with the other sponsors of the OPEN were well represented with regards to brand awareness. Representatives of various Media (Newspapers, MBC and sports photographers) joined us in coverage of this event.

Swingtime’s very own team, comprising of Alan Duval (Marketinfodirect), Gary Skwaric (Benz and Partners) and Dr. Roy Charrimootoo (President of the Mauritian Golfing Federation) kicked off with a dynamic start, smiles amid the determined concentration.

At 2pm, Rob Greeff (Media Manager and Editor) and Dhinesh Rai Kallie (General Manager) appeared on a live broadcast at M.B.C Studios to speak about the democratization of Golf in Mauritius, the Swingtime Mauritian Open and the Adopt-A-Golfer Program initiated by Swingtime. The Adopted golfers also participated in the event.

DAY 2 continued with a flurry of excitement and enthusiasm. The Editor of Swingtime met the oldest participant; a Mr. Sidan Baram aged 83 with a handicap of 19. The gentleman indicated that he thoroughly enjoyed the event and hoped to participate next year. TAO energy drink (a sponsor) was very popular with the golfers, keeping flagging energy levels up.

A strong breeze presented a challenge to golfers at the first tee, but they were encouraged by 3 dogs that came to lend their support.

All in all, everyone had had a fantastic time, golfers and fans alike. However, mention must be made of the state of the greens. It was unfortunate that in many cases a true account of golfers skills could not be garnered as the course was not conducive. This in essence presents a setback for Gymkhana when one considers the heritage of the club. For it to take its rightful place in the annals of golf history a serious refurbishment is required.

The Swingtime Mauritius Open concluded with a Cocktail and Prize Giving attended by winners, supporters, sponsors and the Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Satyaprakash (Devanand) Ritoo. Alan Duval (CEO of Swingtime) made a very encouraging speech as to the state of golf in Mauritius and highlighted the importance of developing golfing talent with emphasis on the Adopt-A-Golfer program. The overall Winner in the Men’s category was Reshad Purdasy with a score of 144, Overall runner up was Billy Narraina with 146 and the overall ladies winner was Nathalie Serret with a score of 148. Swingtime’s team member Gary Skwaric won an award for nearest the pin (76cm).

Swingtime will be presenting the “SWINGTIME COPORATE CHALLENGE” in May 2010, and that promises to the “the” event on the golfing Calendar.

The SWINGTIME Adopt-A-Golfer ProgramSwingtime magazine was very pleased to initiate the following candidates into the highly unique Adopt-A-Golfer program.

They are: Ginger Delacrétaz, Ridwan Purdasy, Joyan Kan Wah, Mourad Bundhoo, Kumar Bistanauth, Adish Ramsaha, Elodie Li Chor, Nooraj Coonjal and Marie Michelle Azma.

Swingtime Golf Director and Golf Pro Billy Narraina, prepared a training week prior to the Swingtime Mauritius Open 2009, in which the Adopt-A-Golfers would participate. Billy shared with us the following. “The working session was mainly a playing lesson with the intention of giving them an idea of the pressure they would have to contend with when participating in the above mentioned event. They performed very well, especially when they realized it was easier to play in a relaxed and confident fashion. Also, playing with a Pro was a great learning curve as they had never trained with a Pro before. This learning experience will be utilized in future, specifically to improve their game with the participation of other fellow Pros. For the next 3 months their training will be as follows: Tuesday and Thursday for 4 hours and one game on Sundays (a course yet to be determined).”

ADOPT-A-GOLFER TRAINGING PROGRAM:

Swingtime’s Golf Director Billy Narraina has prepared a structured Improvement Program which will develop and improve all aspects of the Adopted Golfers game.

Each Adopted Golfer will be given an evaluation of their game, as well as an analysis of their swing and equipment. A full review of their monthly game will be broken up as follows: Long Game, Short Game, Course Management and Psychological development.

Every 6 weeks their progress will be assessed in a revision with training points focusing on Aim, Grip, Ball Position, Body Alignment, Posture and Swing (forward and back). In order to gain substantial results the golfers will have to be much disciplined, and together with the correct training atmosphere, their assessment sheets will reflect their advancement.

Philosophically, the old Chinese proverb of learning, namely: “I hear to forget, I see and remember, I do and understand”, has been placed at the heart of the training program. The proverb suggests that learning is developed through the senses and goes through a number of stages, beginning with perception through the sensory faculties, participating in the action there of and assimilation of skills applied into performance.

Adopt-A-Golfer

Le directeur de golf de Swingtime, Billy Narraina a mis au point un programme de formation structuré qui permettra de développer et d’améliorer tous les aspects de jeu adoptés par les golfeurs participant à ce stage.

Chaque golfeur sera mis au courant des progrès réalisés au niveau de leur performance ainsi qu’une analyse de leur swing. Leur participation à ce programme sera détaillée : long game, short game, gestion du cours et développement psychologique.

Toutes les six semaines, les progrès de ces jeunes golfeurs seront évalués par le biais des entrainements ciblés sur des points spécifiques : but, prise, position de la balle, alignement du corps , posture et swing. Afin d’obtenir le maximum de points, les golfeurs seront appelés à faire preuve de discipline. De plus, avec un environnement propice à la formation , la fiche d’évaluation devrait refléter le niveau de progression de chaque candidat.

Philosophiquement le vieux proverbe chinois de connaissance qui se lit comme suit : « J’entends pour oublier, Je vois et je souviens , Je peux et Je comprends » a été au centre de ce programme de formation. Le proverbe suggère que la connaissance se développe à travers les sens et passe pas plusieurs stages , en commençant par la perception à travers les facultés sensorielles , à l’action et à l’assimilation de talents appliqués au niveau de la performance.

Mauritius gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1968. It is a socially and politically stable island in the Indian Ocean with a population of approximately 1.3 million (2008).

Mauritius has a skilled workforce with one of the highest literacy rates in Africa, many of whom are bi-lingual.

Any investment proposal will then be prepared and submitted to the investment board for approval.

Assuming the investment is approved, the Fund’s lawyers will prepare the investment documents. These will include provision for representation of the Fund on any company boards and management committees to ensure the Fund’s investment can be adequately monitored and, if appropriate, being a co-signatory on bank accounts.

The General Partner will regularly review the investments to see if they could be realized and will seek to realize them at the earliest opportunity, having due regard for the likelihood of any further increase in the value of the investment should it be retrained for a longer period.

Bank of Mauritius Increases its gold holding to 5.6 per cent

After India, Mauritius will be the second country to purchase gold for its official reserves from the International Monetary Fund under the ‘Central Bank Gold Agreement’. The transaction initiated by the Bank of Mauritius on 14 November 2009, relates to an investment to the tune of 2.1 billion rupees (71.1 million dollars) in the acquisition of 2 metrictons(64,301.150finetroyounces)ofgoldatatimewhen the price of gold is on the rise. It has reached a peak of ………… an ounce.

Bank of Mauritius’ decision falls under its declared strategy of diversification of part of its foreign exchange reserves in gold by investing on the gold market. In fact, the foreign exchange reserves of the Bank have increased significantly while the gold holdings have remained constant. Consequently, the percentage holding of gold which stood

This transaction is part of Bank of Mauritius’ foreign exchange reserves management.

In the past, Bank of Mauritius has purchased gold for its official reserves from IMF, either by way of “restitution of gold” or “from auction sales” held by the IMF and from that conducted by Bank of England.

Thepurchaseof64,301.159ouncesofgoldhasbeenmade on the basis of market prices prevailing from the London Precious Metals Markets on 11 November 2009, that is the Date of Agreement for the sale entered into the Bank and the IMF.

Today, gold holdings at the Bank of Mauritius stand at 5.6 per cent of total foreign exchange reserves.

For the time being, any hint has been given by the Central Bank as to its next move on the gold market even it is true to say that Mauritius is on the look-out for better investment opportunities which will generate high level of return. In its last annual report, Central bank’s Governor, Rundheesing Bheenick said that the Bank revisited its portfolio management approach-which was designed for a context where the reserves have a fraction of its current level- in search of higher yield without scarifying quality and without taking unnecessary risk.

The level of net international reserves works out at the end of October at 94 billion rupees. At the same period, Gross Foreign Assets of BOM constituted of foreign exchange reserves in gold of an amount of 1.6 billion rupees; of 4.8 billion of rupees of Special Drawing Rights and of other investments of the tune of 60 billion rupees.

More broadly, IMF’s decision to sell 2 metric tons to Bank ofMauritius ispartof the totalsalesof403.3metric tonsapproved by the Executive Committee Board in September and it adds to the 200 metric tons already sold to the Reserve Bank of India. IMF, according to a communiqué released recently, said it is standing ready for an initial period to sell gold directly to Central Banks and other financial holders that may be interested in such sales. Thereafter, market sales of any amounts would be conducted in a phased manner overtime, following the approach adopted successfully by Central Banks participating in the ‘Central Bank Gold Agreement’.

IMF’s decision is also in line with its new income model to put the financing of the American-based agency on sound long –term footing and enable it at the same time to assist financially, the poorest countries in the world.

Dans son dernier rapport annuel, le gouverneur de la Banque de Maurice, Rundheersing Bheenick soutient que la stratégie du portefeuille d’investissement de la Banque centrale a été revisitée en vue de trouver de nouveaux placements susceptibles de générer de retour plus appréciable sur les investissements. Sans pour autant sacrifier la qualité et prendre des risques. Jusqu’à présent, la stratégie d’investissements a été définie dans un contexte où les réserves étaient qu’une petite fraction de son niveau actuel.

Le niveau des réserves à la Banque de Maurice se situe à la fin d’octobre 2009 à 94 milliards de roupies. A cette période, les “Gross Foreign Assets” à la BOM étaient constitués comme suit : des réserves en or pour un montant de 1,6 milliard roupies , des Droits de Tirage Spéciaux (DTS) pour 4,8 milliards de roupies et 60 milliards de roupies sous autres formes de placements. La “Reserve Position” au FMI était de 633 millions de dollars.

D’une manière générale, la décision du FMI de vendre 2 métriques tonnes de lingots d’or à la Banque de Maurice fait partie de sa stratégie de ventes pour une quantité de 403,3 métriques tonnes, qui a été approuvée par le Board du comité exécutif de la Banque de Maurice. Le fonds, selon le FMI , souligne qu’il se tient prêt pour vendre des lingots d’or directement aux Banque centrales et aux autres détenteurs opérateurs intéressés par ces achats. Par la suite, les ventes sur le marché seront conduites d’une manière ordonnées suivant l’approche adoptée avec succès par les Banques centrales participant au « Central Bank Gold Agreement ».

La décision du FMI cadre également avec le nouveau modèle de revenus visant à redresser la situation financière de cette institution de financement tout en assistant financièrement les pays pauvres de cette planète.

As a recruitment specialist I have found, with my experience with companies, Talent Acquisition Managers and Recruitment Agencies had to become more aggressive, cut-throat and uncompromising with their recruitment strategy, and align it with the affects, the economic crisis has had on their business. It is about staying in survival mode for most businesses. I am sure this would be the same for other companies in the world, who have been affected by the recession. Before the recession, the demand by companies for specific skills has been greater due to the good economic conditions. Acquiring of skills was a direct result of the growth of businesses, which allowed Human Resources professionals to prepare a tangible recruitment plan. However, I am not quite sure companies were prepared for this economic downturn, hence the reason why a recruitment strategy which addresses an economic decline, is not always considered.

The impact of the recession, has affected the job market, where thousands of people have been retrenched, businesses had to close and others had to restructure, in order to sustain the economic pressure. This may be seen as an opportunity to many Talent Acquisition Managers and recruitment agencies, since there would be a greater talent pool of skills available in the market place. Maybe....perhaps more so if we have not found ourselves in the economic downturn and if companies were not cutting back on their recruitment programme. The recruitment of essential skills has become a priority. Human Resource Managers have tightened up the recruitment budget, in order to financially sustain itself, without compromising on productivity and the efficiency of the business. This evidently has also affected recruitment agencies, where vacancies have dropped substantially and placement of candidates per month has

Le recrutement de compétences n’a jamais été aussi complexe que depuis ces deux dernières années. En tant que spécialiste du recrutement, j’ai remarqué, de par mon expérience au niveau des entreprises, à quel point les recruteurs de talents et les agences de recrutement doivent aujourd’hui se montrer plus agressifs , se livrer à une compétition féroce et sans compromis avec leur stratégie de recrutement et réagir en conséquence face aux effets de la crise économique sur leurs activités.

Pour beaucoup d’entreprises , il s’agit de demeurer en mode de survive. Je suis sûr que c’est le cas pour la majorité d’entreprises dans le monde, qui ont été affectées par cette récession. Avant la crise, la demande des entreprises pour des compétences spécifiques a connu une hausse en raison des meilleures conditions économiques qui prévalaient.

Le recours à des compétences était directement lié à la croissance des entreprises, cela a permis aux professionnels de ressources humaines de préparer un plan cohérent de recrutement. Cependant, je ne suis pas sûr que les entreprises s’étaient préparées à faire face à ce ralentissement économique, ce qui explique pourquoi elles n’adoptent pas nécessairement une stratégie de recrutement qui répond à un déclin économique.

L’impact de la récession a affecté la marché de l’emploi où des milliers de personnes ont été mises à pied, des entreprises ont dû fermer leurs portes et d’autres se sont vues contraintes de se restructurer afin de résister à la récession. Une telle situation pourrait s’avérer comme une opportunité pour des Recruteurs de Talents et des agences de recrutements car il y aurait eu un plus grand réservoir de talents sur le marché. Peut-être mieux si nous nous ne sommes retrouvés plongés dans cette crise économique mondiale et si les compagnies n’ont pas sacrifié leur programme de recrutement.

L e recrutement de compétences essentielles est devenu une priorité aujourd’hui. Les directeurs de ressources humaines ont resserré le budget de recrutement afin de pouvoir le soutenir financièrement dans le temps, sans compromettre la productivité et l’efficience de l’entreprise. Ce qui a évidemment affecté les agences de recrutement, où les vacances dans les entreprises ont chuté lourdement alors même que les stages de candidats par mois ont baissé en dessous de la moyenne.

Les recruteurs de talents et les agences de recrutement sont contraints de développer des stratégies de recrutement novatrices pour devenir plus efficaces et proactives dans le contexte économique actuel. Malgré le fait que le marché est sursaturé avec des gens de talents, la clé est de pouvoir détecter ceux qui sont potentiellement plus employables et compétents. Alors, que font actuellement

drastically dropped below their average placement ratio. Talent Acquisition Managers and Recruitment Agencies

are forced to develop almost ground breaking recruitment strategies to become more efficient under this economic strain. Although the market is over saturated with skills, the key is to effectively be able to screen the most highly employable and skilled resources, who has the right skills fit. So what are some corporate company’s and recruitment agencies doing, to retain skills and to attract skilled talent seekers? The talent pool database is one of the most useful tools used to research or obtain a skills match and is most commonly used by both Human Resources Managers and recruitment agencies. Human Resources Managers are advertising and recruiting internally, as part of recruitment cost saving drive, through in-house websites and online job websites. Head hunting scarce skills is another approach used, since it is normally the highly skilled individuals that are less active in the job market and are quite happy where they are. The traditional way still exist where job vacancies are referred to friends or family (word of mouth) that are in the market for a job. Although Talent Acquisition Managers have restricted their budget, recruitment agencies are still being seen as a value adding resource. Advertising, on somewhat limited on-line job websites, has resulted in the same candidates being referred by recruitment agencies, to companies or same candidates applying directly to the company. It is therefore critical that recruitment agencies become highly resourceful, more innovative and have a quick-thinking recruitment approach, in order to refer right calibre candidates to a company, within the shortest possible time.

Despite the recession, there are still companies who have not been affected by the economic downturn and it is business as usual. In saying this, recruitment is still an essential human resources function and business requirement. After all, your business is about people. The employment challenges we are facing should be seen as an opportunity to arm ourselves with bullet proof, innovative, value adding recruitment tactics, in order to seek & maintain sustainability in an economic crisis.

One should never stop planning, always be prepared, be competitive and have excellent recruitment strategies in place...., even in good economic times.

En conséquence, il est important que les agences de recrutement soient mieux équipées, deviennent plus imaginatives et disposent d’une stratégie rapide par rapport à une nouvelle approche aux recrutements afin de recommander des candidats de calibre à des compagnies dans les plus brefs délais.

En dépit de la récession, il y a encore des compagnies qui n’ont pas été touchées par le ralentissement économique et qui opèrent en toute sérénité. Cela étant dit, le recrutement demeure une fonction clé au niveau de ressources humaines . Il est aussi une des exigences de compagnies. Après tout, votre entreprise est centrée autour des gens. Les plus grands défis de l’emploi, auxquels nous sommes tous confrontés , doivent être vus comme une opportunité pour bien s’armer avec des preuves, d’innovation et des tactiques afin de rechercher, voire pérenniser l’emploi dans une période de crise.

Il est évident qu’on ne doit pas arrêter la planification, soit toujours préparé, être compétitif et d’avoir d’excellentes stratégies de recrutement, même dans une conjoncture économique favorable.

Déficit commercial de 53 milliards de roupies en 2009-12-04

Le déficit du commerce extérieur est estimé à 53 milliards de roupies pour l’année calendaire 2009, selon les indicateurs économiques fournis par le Bureau Central des Statistiques(BCS). Ce déficit prévu représenterait une baisse de 11,2 milliards de roupies par rapport au niveau de 2008. La réduction de la facture pétrolière (43.4% de janvier à septembre(2009) aura été une des raisons avancées pour expliquer cette réduction du déficit commercial. Sur la base des données des neuf premiers mois, le BCS s’attend à ce que les exportations et importations totales atteignent 63 milliards de roupies et 116 milliards de roupies respectivement par rapport à 68 milliards de roupies et 132 milliards en 2008. Les recettes du secteur d’exportation ont augmenté une légère augmentation se situation à 26,7 milliards contre 25,7 milliards en 2008. Le textile et l’habillement semblent remonter la pente, les recettes de ce secteur d’exportation se chiffrant à 17,6 milliards de roupies contre

17,4 milliards pour les neuf premiers mois de 2008.

Trade deficit for 2009 Stands at 37.6 Billion Rupees

External commercial deficit is estimated at 53 billion rupees for the twelve months ending December 2009, Central Statistical Office said in a recent statement .This deficit is lower by 11.2 billion rupees compared to 2008. The reduction of petroleum bills (43.7%) from January to September 2009 is one of the reasons put forward to explain the decline in the commercial deficit. Based on trends for previous years and actual data for 2009 till September, total exports for the year

2009 are expected to be of the order of 63,000 billion rupees against imports of 116,000 billion respectively against 68 billion rupees and 132.2 billion rupees respectively in 2008.

Receipts from exports sectors (export-oriented enterprises) have recorded a slight increase amounting to 26.7 billion rupees from 25.7 billion rupees for the corresponding period last year. Textile and garment sector seem to leave the dangerous zone, with export receipts of 17.6 billion rupees compared to 17.4 rupees for the nine months of 2009.

ASIAN TOUR ANNOUNCES 2010 SCHEDULE Sentosa, December 8: The Asian Tour has announced a strong 2010 Schedule with a minimum of 28 tournaments which will include no fewer than five new events, officials said today.Kyi Hla Han, Executive Chairman, Asian Tour said the continued backing from major sponsors and golf bodies from across the Asia Pacific region will see next season’s Schedule flourishing after a challenging 2009 season caused by the global financial crisis.Two new tournaments, the Avantha Championship and Nimbus Pro-Am Championship, will be launched in India while two other tournaments will make their debuts in Malaysia. The Tour is also finalising new events in Chinese Taipei and Vietnam while Han said a secondary circuit, the Asian Development Tour, will be launched in 2010 along the lines of the Nationwide Tour in the United States and European Challenge Tour for emerging players who do not have full playing rights on the Asian Tour.The total prize fund on offer on the Asian Tour in 2010 will be in excess of US$39 million, reinforcing it as the third largest international Tour behind the US PGA Tour and European Tour.The Asian Tour will travel to as far as Switzerland in Europe and to the Far East in Japan where players from 29 different nationalities will compete for lucrative purses.Han said the Asian Tour was forecasting between 30 to 35 events with over US$45 million in prize money from 2012 onwards, thanks largely to the confidence within the marketplace and a number of factors which include the stellar performances of the region’s stars, the establishment of EurAsia Golf Ltd through a formal alliance with the European Tour, and a partnership with IMG, the world’s largest sports marketing company, as the Tour’s global media agent.Additionally, Han added that bringing in-house the television production and distribution functions have also broadened sponsors’ benefits and enhanced the Tour’s TV platform for wider distribution in new markets and existing key markets. This is a shot in which the effort level is reduced still further. Generally, the shot is played from only a short distance from the edge of the green. The main difference between the chip and the pitch is that there is no need to produce as much as power. This means there is no weight shift in the backswing of a chip shot and very little action throughout the swing.

When playing these really short shots it is advisable that the pupil holds the bottom of the grip on the 7 iron. There is no need to use the full length of the club as there is no necessity to create power. Some top players even use their putting hold (reverse overlap) hen playing chip shots.

The set up is very much the same as for a short pitch. The basic stance is the same, parallel shoulders, left foot withdrawn from the line to create an open foot alignment. ts.

However, the ball position is a little further back in the stance, just at the midway point. 70% of the body weight is forward on the left foot and the hands are, again, just opposite the inside of the left thigh, which means they are a little ahead of the ball than for a pitch shot. The stance is only 7-10cm (3-4 inches) wide as there is no need to create a very stable platform for this effort level of swing.

The swing is very like the putting stroke. It is a rhythmic pendulum-style swing with very passive wrists and the weight remaining on the left foot during the back swing. The length of the backswing is entirely related to the distance the ball has to travel. It allows for a smoothly accelerating stroke through the ball, achieving a similar length follow-through to the backswing. The pupil’s weight will mainly finish on the left foot on the completion of the swing. The set-up dictates the position at impact and ensures a slight downward contact on the ball; this will produce the correct amount of flight and roll for the loft of the ball being used.

Vous l’avez tous rencontré, ‘ l’homme du bistrot’. Il est toujours làprodiguant joyeusement des conseils sur n’importe quoi et à tout lemonde. « Non, vous ne voulez pas acheter la voiture rouge ; vousvoulez acheter la bleue. Oh, non elle n’est pas automatique, ce sontdes bêtises ». L’homme du bistrot est l’âme de cette communauté. Unhomme qui se passionne pour raconter des histoires tout en sirotant sabière. Il est facilement bousculé et a peur à l’idée d’uneinterdiction de fumer.

Alors, qu’est-ce que cet homme du bistrot a à dire sur la protectiondu golf. Bien, comme il a une opinion sur tout, il a énormément dechoses à dire. Certes, on ne parle de la protection contre le coupde soleil et non pas de celui qu’on a besoin après une virée autourdu clubhouse à la recherche d’un moment d’intimité.

Les golfeurs sont de nature friands de grandes sorties en dehors dela maison. Tout le temps qui doit être passé sur un parcours de golf,ils doivent le faire et sont naturellement exposés aux élémentsexternes. En Ecosse, où il existe de nombreux parcours de golf, on

He is the one that is always there happily dispensing advice on anything to everybody. ‘’No you don’t want to buy the red car; you want to buy the blue one. Oh, and not an automatic, they’re rubbish...’’ The man in the pub is the life-blood of the local community. A man to share life stories with over copious amounts of ale, he is very easily upset by any mention of a smoking ban.

So what does the man in the pub have to say about golfing protection? Well as the man in the pub has an opinion on everything, he has a lot to say. It must be noted that the type of protection that we are talking about here is the type that prevents sunburn, and not the type that is required when hanging around the clubhouse seeking a moment of intimacy.

Golfers by nature are fond of the great outdoors. All relative time that could be spent on a golf course, will be spent on a golf course which inevitably means exposure to the elements. Now, in Scotland, where there are lots of golf courses, protection generally revolves around keeping

Mauritius has golf courses, very good ones, and it has a tropical climate thus keeping warm very rarely becomes a consideration. Rain equals an umbrella. Cyclones, you shouldn’t even be there. So the subject of sunburn, heatstroke and all of the preventative measures rears its lobster-red head. If you have ever been to Australia or New Zealandyouwillknowthattalkofskincancerisascommonas the weather or house prices. Everyone knows someone who has, or has had skin cancer.

Should we be concerned? In the US more than one million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed annually, and it is the most common form of cancer. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime, most will be of the least harmful kind but still resulting in about 2,500deathsperyear.About90%ofthesenon-melanomaskin cancers are associated to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Now the scary part; the incidence of melanoma (the really bad one) is rising faster than the seven mostcommoncancers.Melanomaaccountsforabout3%ofskincancercasesbutisattributedtomorethan75%ofskin cancer deaths. It is estimated that in the US melanoma will result in nearly 9,000 deaths this year alone.

The ozone layer is vitally important to life because it absorbs biologically harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Most UV-A reaches the planet surface but the radiation is relatively harmless. UV-B is the main cause of sunburn and excessive exposure can also lead to genetic damage resulting in problems such as skin cancer. Only a small fraction of UV-B reaches the surface and luckily for us UV-C, (the most harmful) is entirely screened out by the ozone.

Why is this relevant without the need to further understand the ozone layer? Naturally too much sun exposure causes sunburn, too much of that may lead to skin cancer (a person’s risk for melanoma doubles if he or she has had five or more sunburns at any age). However the beauty of protection is pure simplicity itself, common sense personified. Cover up! Hats, clothing, sunblock, sunscreens, sunglasses, seeks the shade and do not burn!!!. Keep the body cool and rehydrate to avoid heatstroke.

So what does the man in the pub do to keep safe? Well as he has burnt himself to a crisp so many times in so many countries, (that time in Atlanta – pain, so much pain) that he has become oblivious. He will be found in the pub smoking, drinking and offering useless advice that is too be ignored. You will buy the red car and it will be an automatic. You will cover up when exposed to the elements. And, if you are a really nice person you will pick him up from the floor when he has fallen off his bar stool slobbering, ‘’Mad dogs and Englishman go out in the mid-day sun.’’

Mais là où le bât blesse est que l’incidence de la mélanine a tendance à augmenter plus rapidement que les septautrescasdecancer.Lamélaninecompte3%decasde cancer de la peau mais elle est responsable de plus de75%demortsassociéesaucancerdelapeau.Ilestestimé qu’aux Etats-Unis, la mélaninecontribue à environ 9,000 décès uniquement pour cette année.

La couche d’ozone est d’une importance vitale pour la vie dans la mesure où elle absorbe biologiquement la mauvaise radiation ultraviolette du soleil. La plupart de radiation UV-A atteint lasurface de la planète mais elle n’est pas nuisible. UV-B est laprincipale cause qui donne le coup de soleil. Une exposition excessiveà UV-B peut génétiquement générer des problèmes, dont le cancer de la peau. Seulement une légère fraction de UV-B atteint la surface et fort heureusement UV-C, qui est la plus dangereuse, est balayée par l’ozone.

Naturellement une plus grande exposition au soleil peut causer un coup de soleil et éventuellement du cancer de la peau si cette situation perdure. Cependant, la beauté de cette protection réside dans sa simplicité , de bon sens personnifié. Couvrez-vous ! Chapeaux, vêtement, écran solaire, lunettes solaires, tous cherchent à vous abriter du soleil. Laissez le corps se refroidir et réhydratez-vous pour éviter des attaques cardiaques.

Alors, que fait l’homme du bistrot pour rester à l’abri ? Comme il s’est brûlé plusieurs fois dans de nombreux pays, il est devenu inconscient. Il se retrouvera dans le pub pour fumer, boire et offrir des conseils inutiles. Vous achèterez la voiture rouge qui est automatique. Vous allez vous couvrir quand on est exposé aux éléments extérieurs. Et si vous être une personne aimable, vous allezl’aider à se relever quand il est tombé de son tabouret de bar «Chiens fous et les Anglais vont sous le soleil du midi ».

Dear friends, I am having to write this article with a heavy heart following the tragic occurrences that have been hurting our own dear Tiger. Among golf lovers spread around the world, there may be many who would not be a great fan of Tiger as there are other greats in the game too who have their share of fan following. But, I am sure admiring Tiger is something which nobody will deny. I believe it is not exactly the time to discuss Tiger’s personal life matters, rather we need to concentrate on the prospects of his revival from the psychological traumas that he is facing right now. Folks, we definitely do not want another ‘Monica Seles’ here. But, what is going on only shows that Tiger is also human like us with both positive and negative emotions. Let us all get behind him.

I would like to take you back to the 5th issue which featured my article on Tiger’s 2nd half of 2009. I wrote things like ‘Actually, due to some reasons beyond golf, Tiger may not be able to maintain the perfect level of concentration’ and ‘Apart from some expensive loss of concentration at decisive moments, the other thing that can bother Tiger is injury.’ Unfortunately, these things are coming true strikingly forTiger.But,nowletusturnourattentiontowardsthemillion(ortrillion)–dollar–question–‘HowwillTigercopewiththisdifferentkindofoppositioncomingintheform of his own emotional pandemonium’?

Right now, Tiger is in an extremely confused state of mind and his mind is crowded with numerous thoughts most of which are negative

and demoralizing. To be frank, more than 12 months (whole of 2010) will be required for Tiger to completely overcome this setback. But, his mind will

be partly free from this demoralizing frame after 7 months from now. I do not actually want to comment much on this, but I can say that the following 7 months which will comprise of the first half of 2010 will be unpleasant for him specially off the field. Support from his family will enable him to recover significantly from the trauma only around the

middle of the season. But, remember they say ‘when the going gets tough the tough gets going’ and can you think of someone tougher than the guy we are talking about here? Actually, it is a mind game now. The good news from my side is that Tiger’s luck will favour him between April

and July on the field, but still the emotional setback will remain to be a pull-back even during this period. 2010 will be an average year

for this all time great. But, the numero uno position will probably still remain to be his at the end of 2010.
