One stop shop for information on public higher education in Switzerland

swissnex Singapore is a platform of the Embassy of Switzerland bridging knowledge and competencies in science, education, art and innovation between Switzerland, Singapore and South-East Asia. It operates in synergy with academic, governmental and economic partners, providing collaboration opportunities at innovative events promoting Swiss excellence.

I had never expected a visit to the Swiss Education Fair to change my life, as it opened the door for me to fulfil my lifelong dream to pursue a master in financial engineering in Switzerland, a leading financial centre.

During the fair, I found out about the Masters of Science in Finance programme from HEC Lausanne, which has an international reputation and offers one of the best postgraduate courses in Europe.

The friendly staffs from swissnex shared about this opportunity. Immediately after my visit, I started the application procedure. Eight months later I was on the plane to Switzerland on this life changing journey. A short 1 hour visit to the Swiss Education Fair was all it took for me to find the key to realize my first dream.

I’m looking out for the next key and miracle to realize my next dream. Do you have any dreams? If so, start searching for the key and I am sure you will find it one day.

Dear Students, Dear Parents

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the sixth edition of the Swiss Education Fair.

The institutions present at the Swiss Education Fair 2015 - including Universities, Universities of Applied Sciences and Hospitality- as well as Boarding Schools – represent Switzerland’s finest pre- and tertiary educational institutions and command considerable respect among their global peers.

Switzerland’s educational institutions are the backbone of its society and economy, continually producing highly skilled individuals whose expertise is sought after around the world. Being one of the largest investors in education and research worldwide, Switzerland offers opportunities for personal and professional growth through innovation, diversity and drive for perfection. It lays emphasis on the exchange of knowledge via its multiple partnerships and collaborations with world reputable research institutes. The variety of courses and programs offered equip students to manage the various challenges of today’s global environment. In multiple professional areas, from Banking, Pharma, Architecture, Engineering, IT to Hospitality, alumni from Swiss institutions face challenges with a solid academic training, a balance of technical and service oriented skills, along with a passion for details. As these Swiss alumni move on to explore the professional environment, they all become world citizens engaging with Swiss standards and innovation spirit.

Singapore and Switzerland have always placed strong emphasis on the excellence of its education, and the existing collaborations between both countries are evidences of this common objective. Furthermore, the recent interest of the Singapore government in the Swiss dual education system shows that both countries have still very much to share in terms of education.

Studying in a foreign country is not only an educational experience but also a personal journey. While educational institutions assist in this endeavor, surroundings and environment also play a role. As a country, Switzerland offers a wide array of interesting opportunities to learn outside of a formal school setting. Home to four distinct cultural regions, our small country, nestled in the heart of Western Europe, is easily explored by public transport. The unrivalled natural beauty of our lakes, rivers and mountains presents a perfect setting to revitalize one’s mind in peaceful surroundings. Furthermore, the cultural diversity makes it an enjoyable place to live and discover new horizons.

For centuries, Switzerland has been attracting those eager to learn, excited to explore and willing to teach. I therefore encourage you to inform yourself, enjoy discovering this multifaceted country and to make the most of the opportunities presented at the fair.

Vatel Switzerland is proud to welcome students on a unique campus with state-of-the-art equipment where the use of the latest IT tools such as tablets for classes answers the demands of the next generation of hoteliers. The school is the only one in the country to possess its own 4* training hotel with 115 rooms, allowing students to train their operational and management skills on a regular basis to be more competitive on the market during their internship and after graduation. Bachelor students have stronger practical skills before going for the two compulsory internships.

In addition to its official recognition allowing the school to deliver both Bachelor and Master degrees, Vatel Switzerland is currently being audited by the Swiss authorities to become an official Higher Education Institution in the country, consolidating its relations with the Swiss government. Early 2014 the school was also granted the prestigious award “Best Investment in Switzerland 2013”.

This year the school decided to tackle turnover and qualified staff retention by opening the first Human Resources & Training Management specialization at the Master level, specially conceived by up to 85% of external consultants, including former executives from Hyatt International. Students can therefore easily transfer from one campus to another to take their specialization with professors who are leaders in their field. Executive Education courses are regularly organized for public/ private universities, or government bodies.

Given its decision to offer a personalized approach to tuition Vatel Switzerland allows a maximum number of 400 students on its campus and selects very few new students each year for both Spring and Fall intakes, in English or in French. 46 nationalities are currently represented, of which 60% are European. Selection of new students is based on a thorough assessment of their file and an additional selection day.
