2017 is now in the book. Looking back, the year was marked by successes, achievements, challenges and a lot of learnings. One of our biggest achievements was winning the ‘Best Brand Award’ in 2017 for Symphony for consecutive third time. This clearly reflects the genuine strength of Symphony brand in the market and continue to motivate us to retain our position and perform even better. Two other important milestones are Symphony brand launching in few more countries making us proud as Bangladeshi brand and setting up of largest mobile phone factory assembly in Savar. These are indeed big driving factors for the entire group in the days ahead. Three major trends in the mobile market have become very obvious; customer upgrading to higher value and better user experience product, getting more brand sensitive and intense competition in each price segment of the market. In order to address these market developments we are taking different measures to drive organizational efficiency so that we can be more competitive & improve product and retail experiences so that we can meet our customers growing expectation and make our brand stronger .

Diversification of our business, which started few years back, has got new momentum in 2017. Edison Footwear, one of the best shoe factories in the country, has successfully started operation. Power sector business have not only added many new product lines but also started the process of setting up of a world class transformer factory. All the other group businesses especially accessories, logistics, real state, home appliances, e-commerce have grown tremendously contributing towards a well-balanced sustainable company even faster than we have planned! Edison Group have not only become known in the corporate world it has already started attracting globally reputed financing organizations who are very interested to invest in the Group .

With a new year comes new challenges and goals. We will put more focus on mobile phones business and at the same time keep on growing other businesses. We will succeed with the support, dedication and hard work of all our employees whom I see as business partner. When we began this company in our early days, we were a few people in a small infrastructure, with hopes and visions, positive and high. With all of our sincere efforts and honest attempts, we gradually tried to capture a significant portion of the local mobile market. Since then, we have grown to become one of the leading conglomerates in Bangladesh.

During our 10-year history, we have experienced and successfully navigated through several periods of extreme business challenges and volatility. And although we are not immune from this market volatility and uncertainty, my confidence in our company and in all of you has never been greater.

Our company has weathered many different types of storms. But our brands have never been stronger like today they are. Winning the Best Brand Award in 2017 for Symphony for the third consecutive time is the perfect example of that.

Now that, in order to be a great organization, we must focus on building a culture where our core values are nurtured and openness are appreciated. The workplace should not be something that people fear every day. Jobs shouldn’t provoke stress in employees. While the work may be difficult, the culture shouldn’t add to the stress of the work. On the contrary, the culture should be designed to alleviate the work related stress. We must respect each other, value others opinion and take ownership whenever we need to because it truly matters!

We want happy employees because happiness means more productivity. And when a business is more productive, that means it is working faster; and when it works faster, it can get a leg up on the competition. So it’s worth the investment for companies to build and nourish a value driven culture.

A good culture is also a recruiting tool. If we’re looking to hire talented people, it doesn’t make sense to fill our office with cubicles and limit employee freedom. Symphony won the best mobile phone brand award in 'Best Brand Award 2017', jointly organized by Bangladesh Brand Forum and Millward Brown, a reputed market research firm. The program was held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday, 25th November. This is Symphony’s third consecutive “Best Brand Award” victory.

The brand has also become the 8th best brand among all multinational and local brands of the country. It has achieved number 1 position in mobile handset category defeating other local and international brands by a big margin.

Also in the category the second is Samsung and third is Huawei. This survey was conducted on over 5000 respondents nationwide and the top brands in 35 broad categories were chosen to be awarded.

Full Vision Display is currently the most recent technological innovation in the smartphone arena. Therefore it’s really no wonder that the manufacturers are now tending to introduce the feature in their own products. Number One smartphone brand Symphony, has recently released their very first Full Vision display smartphone in the market, Symphony Z10.

The most striking feature of the Android Nougat 7.1.2 run Symphony Z10 is its design because the Full Vision display feature has changed the complete outlook of this phone.

The front side naturally looks dashing with the narrow bezel and wide 5.7 inch HD+ IPS Display. A 2.5D curved glass panel is provided for added touch comfort and better viewing experience. Its screen-to-body ratio is a staggering 83 and the aspect ratio of this screen is 18:9. The rear side is a beautiful combination of metal and plastic. Both these cameras come with flash, but the front flash, however, has a “soft light” selfie feature for taking photos with optimum lighting. Other features include time lapse, Auto HDR, Face beauty, Auto portrait, Auto scene detection, Auto night mode, Super pixel, Scene frame and etc. Third-generation fingerprint feature has been included in the smartphone. Locking and unlocking will be instantaneous. Moreover the fingerprint sensor can be used to snap photos as well in this 4G enabled smartphone.

Symphony Mobile Phone production plant is on progress under the banner of Edison Industries Ltd. The plant has been set up on 2 storied building at Zirabo Ahsulia, Savar, Dhaka with an initial annual production capacity of up to 30 lakh handsets. Edison Group is going to create approx. 450 job opportunity within 1st & 2nd quarter of 2018. Most of them will be from technical institutes. It is expected that internal expert engineers will get opportunity to grab new job with dynamic learning opportunities. Edison Industries Ltd will help Symphony Brand fulfill market demand to create new height in Bangladesh mobile market.

Edison group, one of the fastest growing conglomerates in Bangladesh has recently introduced their new venture, Hexagon Technologies Ltd.

Hexagon Technologies Ltd. signed an agreement with Chinese Government Company “SYS” (CECEP ORIENTAL SHUANGYASHAN BUILDING MATERIALS EQUIPMENTS CO. LTD.) at the Head Office of Edison Group, Tejgaon. Hexagon is going to set up a fully automated brick factory with the help of SYS to meet the need of the growing ceramic bricks demand in the country. SYS will provide all types of engineering and technical support to the factory as well.

In the signing ceremony, from Hexagon Mr. Jakaria Shahid, Chairman & Major Mahmood Akbar Bhuiyan (Retd), Managing Director and from SYS Chairman, Mr. Kang Beiling & Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Second Secretary, LV Yang were

present while Other high officials of Chinese Embassy & Edison Group including representative of various govt / non govt institutions were also present at the program.

According to Mr. Akbar, the factory will be equipped with Full Auto Tunnel Technology on 35 bighas of land on the bank of River Dhaleshwari at Mawa Road, Munshiganj. This kind of environment-friendly factory is popularly known as “Full Green Project”. With an initial investment of 08 million dollar, the trial production is set to begin in December, 2018.

With a daily production capacity of minimum 110,000 pieces of high quality ceramic bricks and tiles Hexagon aims not only to meet the country’s need but also export to other countries. Hexagon Bricks will set new standard for auto bricks production in the country that will set an Benchmark for others in this sector, he added.

We are happy to announce the readiness of Customer Service Management (CSM) software for usage in all Customer Care and supporting departments. As a part of implementation, a 3 day training was arranged by CSM development team for CC members before test run of the software. IT team internally developed the

software for Customer Center’s operation. Center Manager, Commercial executive and Customer Center Technical In charge from all CC’s attended the training session together. The training will ensure smooth operation of the software in all Customer Care Centers and Corporate office.

Launching of EDISON Footwear Factory:

On 7th October 2017 EDISON Footwear formally launched its factory operation. Mr. Lutfor Rahman, Hon’ble Member of NBR inaugurated the factory by cutting the ribbon along with the Important High Officials of the Government, The Executive Management of EDISON Group along with the Senior Management Members gathered in a Dua Mahfil to wish the future success of the factory.

SIEMENS AC in Metro Rail Project:

Home Appliances department has achieved a remarkable success by selling a huge number of AC to the Metro rail project. In this scheme 200 SIEMENS AC have already been sold to the project and more will be delivered in the coming days as per the projects requirement.

MOU Signed with Brummers and Partners:

In order to expand the future business MOU was signed in between EDISON Electronics Ltd. And Brummer & Partners Asset Management (Bangladesh) Ltd. On 8th November 2017. Mr. Khalid Quadir (Managing partner), Ms. Kerry Breen (Director, Investment) along with other officials from Brummers and Partners were present in The signing ceremony at the Corporate Head quarter of EDISON Group.

Inauguration of EDISON IRIS:

EDISON Properties have inaugurated another residential project EDISON IRIS in ‘H’ Block of Bashundhara in December. Mr. Jakaria Shahid, Hon’ble Managing Director of EDISON Group formally launched the opening of this project.

Recently, symphony corporate table tennis tournament 2017 took place in the sports room of Rangs Babylonia with much festivity and enthusiasm. The tournament started in the first week of December 2017 and the grand finale took place on 20th December 2017. The tournament had both singles and doubles format. In the singles format a total of 32 players participated and in the double format a total of 18 teams played. Recently Edison Group (Symphony Mobile) and CRRT being desirous to mutually work together for recycling electronic product and solid (metal) waste by collecting electronics and solid (metal) waste and then for transforming environmental-friendly noble metals.

Edison Group’s Hon’ble Managing Director Jakaria Shahid and CRTR’s Director, Hongji Zhu signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Other high officials of Edison group were present at that moment.

Jakaria Shahid said that not only mobile phones but also other electronic products will be recycled in plant.Hongji Zhu said that they are very happy for the signing and they will ensure proper co-operation to make this venture successful.

Recently SMT conference was held from January 10 to January 13 of 2018 at Bangkok. The senior management members of all the concerns of Edison group went together in the conference. The main objective of this year’s gathering was about improving the culture, retain the good part of the existing cultural mix and transmit it into all other concerns of Edison group. The entire tour had group discussion, brainstorming session, fun, travel and learning.

Mr. Ahmed Pasha, Director of SHR, IT & Customer Service inaugurated the program where Technical Service & Development Head Mr. F. M Abdul Hafiz and other members of Technical Division attended a discussion session on current challenges and way forward. The participants took decision on several agenda’s including SOP revision and way of work pattern. Mr. Ahmed Pasha presented the 7C of Customer Service and clarified in light with the current business processes.
