<Solid Line / Smeared Image / Spots> Soiled paper due to waste toner leakage caused by the bent sheet in the ITB cleaning unit. Description Soiling occurs on paper inside the machine and the cassette because the waste toner leaks and scatters during operation. The photo [A] shows the waste toner accumulated on the yellow developing assembly [1]. The photo [B] shows the waste toner accumulated on the Laser Scanner Unit [2].

Cause A cylindrically-shaped sheet [2] is in the ITB cleaner assembly [1]. This sheet [2] is a path to feed waste toner. However, when the cleaning blade is replaced, and the sheet [2] is falsely bent [a], the shape of the cylindrically-shaped feeding path for waste toner is not formed correctly. This causes waste toner leakage from [b] area. The photo [A] shows the sheet being attached correctly. The photo [B] shows the bent sheet. (Please refer to TP12 348.pdf)

10) After installing the ITB Cleaning Unit to the ITB Unit, apply tospearl on the whole area indicated in the figure below.

[Caution] - When applying tospearl, be careful not to scatter it on inside of the ITB, the Drive Roller and the Secondary Transfer Inner Roller. - If it is scattered on inside of the ITB, the Drive Roller or the Secondary Transfer Inner Roller, wipe it with lint-free paper moistened with alcohol while rotating the motor by hand. At this time, turn the motor counterclockwise and do not turn it clockwise. 11) To execute the ITB Equilibrium Position Detection, make the main body in standby state. 12) Select Service Mode > Mode List > COPIER > Function > MISC-P > ITB-INIT and press OK to execute the ITB equilibrium position detection (initial adjustment of ITB steering). The Service Mode will take approx. 2 to 3 minutes.

Fine blur (wave shape) of image by 1 - 2 mm in horizontal scanning direction on both image edges due to fault of timing belt tension in scanner motor (M1). Description In the field, when setting the original on the copyboard to make a copy, center area of the image didn't have any problem, but fine blur of image by 1 - 2 mm occurred on the both image edges in the horizontal scanning direction.

Page 12: T echnical Work boook - Canon Globaldownloads.canon.com/isg_documents/iAC5051_Tech_Workbook... · 2013. 7. 8. · Symptoms & Solutions Guide highlights how you can resolve the top

pg. 6

Cause Since the tension of the timing belt in the scanner motor was weak, vibration of the belt came down to the mirror when the motor rotated. Then, the blurred image occurred. Field Remedy 1. To analyze cause of the symptom, set the original on DF and make a copy (stream reading). When the symptom doesn't occur with DF, the belt tension of the scanner motor may be loosed. Execute step 2 shown below. 2. Remove the back cover of the reader, the plate [1] that covers the scanner motor assembly and the 7 screws [2].

3. To show the original installation position, put a mark [3] on the edge of the installation plate of the scanner motor.

4. After loosing the 3 screws [4] that attaching the scanner motor, displace the scanner motor in the right direction [5] and secure it with the 3 screws [4] to make the belt tension slightly stronger. [Note] When the belt tension is too strong, color displacement may occur. When color displacement occurs, loose the belt tension slightly. 5. Set the original on the copyboard and make a copy to check if the blur is solved.

Smeared or unfocused image due to condensation Description Smeared or unfocused image occurs due to condensation.

Cause Condensation on the drum surface. When the machine is started up, the temperature in the machine gradually increases. However, when the machine is started up in a low-temperature environment, dew condensation occurs on the drum surface because cooled air is absorbed there. Field Remedy 1. Turn on the environment heater SW. 2. Upgrade the latest System Software that is located on e-Support. [Reference] As a measure against condensation, the temperature condition of the inside of the machine is added to fan control of condensation prevention mode in service mode (level 2) COPIER > Option > IMG-FIX > DELV-FAN (DCON Ver.17.02 or later). When the temperature of the inside of the machine is 24 degrees Celsius or less, the Process Cartridge Fan (Front) (FM10) of image formation is stopped. Accordingly, corrections are made to operate each fan at 31 degrees Celsius or more as a measure against temperature rise. 3. Set the following item; service mode (level 2) > COPIER > Option > IMG-FIX > DELV-FAN to "1". - 0: condensation prevention mode OFF (Default value) - 1: condensation prevention mode ON

Color displacement in the horizontal scanning direction Description In the field, color displacement [1] occurred in the horizontal scanning direction.

Cause When the value read by the Patch Sensor (Center) (UN49) was out of the appropriate range with the color displacement correction control of the DC Controller, the color displacement correction control was not executed. Field Remedy Upgrade the System Software to the latest that is posted on e-Support. [Reference] With DCON Ver.12.01, it was corrected to execute registration correction in the horizontal scanning direction. Color displacement on image due to floating drum unit Description Color displacement on both ends of image occurred in the sub scanning direction. Below is a sample image taken when a failure occurred on the black Drum unit.

pg. 9

Cause The deformed claw mount to fix a Drum unit caused the improper fitting of the Drum unit on the front side resulting in color displacement.

Also, if the Drum unit is installed on machine, the floating Drum unit can be seen on the location [A].

Field Remedy Modify the claw mount to fix a Drum unit. If the symptom does not improve with this modification, replace the Drum unit. [Reference] There are two Claw mounts to fix a Drum unit on the front and rear sides

Mottle blank in high-density area on images occurs on paper with uneven surface Description In the machines prior to the serial numbers described below, mottle blank may occur in the high-density area on images when papers with uneven surfaces are used.

Cause A secondary transfer failure occurred due to the unevenness on the paper, and this caused improper transfer of toner on the ITB (Intermediate Transfer Belt) to the paper. As a remedy, the thickness of the Inter. Transfer Belt was decreased in order to allow toner to be transferred more appropriately to the unevenness of the paper. Field Remedy Execute the four items described below: 1. Replace the Secondary Transfer Roller Pressure Spring with a new type of Compression Spring (FU8-2552). 2. Replace the belt with a new type of ITB (60 micrometers). As the new type of ITB is thin, replace the belt in accordance with "ITB replacement procedure". [Reference] In consideration of working efficiency, an Inter. Transfer Belt Set (FY7-0408) containing an ITB and other parts and tools required for replacement has been newly set. - Inter. Transfer Belt - ITB Installation Auxiliary Sheet - Belt Retainer Sheet (FC0-0253) - Belt Guide (FL3-4847) 3. Upgrade the DC Controller software to Ver.18.01 or later, and also upgrade the system software to Ver.34.05 or later. 4. Select the following: Service Mode (Level 2) > COPIER > Option > IMG-TR > ITB-TYPE > "1". "0" is for the old type (85 micrometers), and "1" is for the new type (60 micrometers). [Note] If the DC Controller software is Ver.18.01 or later, the system software is Ver.34.05 or later, and the old type of Inter. Transfer Belt is used, ITB-TYPE will be set to"1" for the new type when executing RAM clear of the DC Controller PCB, so change it to "0".

Approx. 3mm diameter of spots (about 10 to 20 spots) on an image at installation Description In the field, approx. 3mm diameter spots (about 10 to 20 spots) appeared on an image at installation. It was resolved by executing the stirring of color developer mode "STIR" in service mode. If a similar symptom occurs, perform the following Field Remedy.

Cause Based on the fact that the symptom was resolved by executing "STIR", it is assumed that retransfer occurred because charging of toner was not sufficient, causing occurrence of spots on an image. Field Remedy 1. Select Service Mode > COPIER > Function > INSTALL > STIR-Y/M/C/K (select the target color), and press "OK" key. - STIR: the mode to stir developer in the developing assembly. - During operation, "ACTIVE" is indicated, and "OK!" is indicated after the completion. In addition, it takes approx. 60 seconds with C5051/5045, and approx. 90 seconds with C5035/5030. 2. After the completion of "STIR", make a copy and check the image. If the symptom is not resolved, execute the operation again. 3. If the symptom is not resolved even executing "STIR" twice, execute cleaning by selecting Settings/Registration > Adjustment/Maintenance > Maintenance > Clean Inside Main Unit > Start in user mode. After that, make a copy again and check the image. [Reference] If a similar symptom occurs when replacing the developing assembly other than at installation, execute the above remedy.

following steps. 1) In Service Mode > COPIER > Function > MISC-P > ITB-INIT, execute the ITB equilibrium position detection. [Reference] This service mode item needs about 2 to 3 minutes to finish. 2) In Service Mode > COPIER > Display > MISC > ITB-POS, check the position of ITB. Make sure that the value of ITB-POS falls within the range between -300 and +450. If the value exceeds this range, make an adjustment by turning the adjuster to keep the copier on the level, and then go through the 2 steps above again. E075-0003/E075-0103 occurs due to the adjustment position of an adjuster Description Despite the copier body being on the level, E075-0003/E075-0103 occurs. - E075-0003: ITB Displacement Sensor detects full displacement position at the rear. - E075-0103: ITB Displacement Sensor detects full displacement position at the front. Cause Due to the adjustment position of an adjuster, the ITB displaces far away from the position at which the ITB displacement correction control works. (Please refer to TP12 331.pdf) Field Remedy Adjust the adjustment position of an adjuster in accordance with the following steps: 1) In Service Mode > COPIER > Function > MISC-P > ITB-INIT, execute the ITB equilibrium position detection. [Reference] This service mode item needs about a couple of minutes to finish. 2) In Service Mode > COPIER > Display > MISC > ITB-POS, check the position of ITB. 3) If the value of ITB-POS is still without the range between -300 and +450 even after Steps 1) and 2), do Step a) or b) above by changing the number of turns to 1 turn. [Caution] Do not turn either one of the adjusters 3 turns or more. 4) If the value of ITB-POS has fallen within the appropriate range, this work finishes. But, if not, suspect another cause and restore the adjusted adjuster to let the copier on the level. E075-0003/E075-0103 occurs due to the shaved secondary transfer inner roller shaft Description On the machines with serial numbers earlier than the ones listed below, E075-0003/E075-0103 occurred. - E075-0003: ITB Displacement Sensor detects full displacement position at the rear. - E075-0103: ITB Displacement Sensor detects full displacement position at the front.

Cause The shaft [a] of the secondary transfer inner roller was shaved, which prevented the ITB displacement correction control to work properly, and consequently causing the ITB to fully displace. [A] shows the shaved shaft and [B] shows the normal condition of the shaft. (Please refer to TP12 331.pdf)

Field Remedy Replace the secondary transfer inner roller [1] and the 2 secondary transfer bushing holders [2] (front and rear) by the new ones. When replacing, apply a rice grain size of the super lube grease to the shaft [a] (both front and rear sides).

<Light Image/ Faulty Color Reproduction> Gradation is not reproduced when printing from the PS3 printer driver on a machine with system software earlier than Ver.61.05. Description When printing from PS3 printer driver in MacOS X, the gradation area was reproduced as solid color image. Gradation [A] was reproduced as solid color image like [B].

Cause Shading processing had a problem on a machine with a system software earlier than Ver.61.05. Field Remedy Upgrade the system software to Ver.61.05 (MN-CONT Ver.61.05) or later. PS printer driver on Windows prints color data that Illustrator creates in RGB color mode as the monochrome black data Description When printing a color data that was created by Illustrator or a color data that was printed first time in the following condition, the data was output as the black and white one. 1) Set a printer driver other than PS printer driver in Devices and Printers > "Default printer" and set its color mode to "Black and White." 2) Start Illustrator and create a new document with "RGB" set as its color mode under New Document. 3) Chose "Illustrator Determine Colors" for Color Handling in Illustrator side. 4) In Illustrator side, select File menu > Print > Printer list, select PS printer driver and print the new document. Then, the document is output as the black and white data. [Reference] - Data created with CMYK color mode is correctly printed in color. - Once such a document is printed in color by the default printer, it comes to be output as color data afterward.

Cause This behavior is by design of Illustrator. Illustrator checks whether the default printer that has been set in OS is PS printer driver or not upon startup, and if it recognizes a printer driver other than PS printer driver as the default printer, it gets the color mode information of the driver via dmcolor of DEVMODE data structure. On the other hand, the printer driver sets the black and white mode in its dmcolor if "Black and White" is set on UI. In this situation, if Illustrator starts, it sets its color mode to Black and White in accordance with the dmcolor value. - DEVMODE data structure: stores information about printer environment - dmcolor: a member of DEVMODE data structure, and switches the color mode of the color printer between color and black and white. Field Remedy Select "PostScript Printer Determine Colors" in "Color Handling" in Illustrator side. [Reference] It is possible to avoid the problem by changing color mode setting of "Default printer" from "black and white" to "color". Cause A slow fixing rotation speed tends to cause the stick slip (vibration), and consequently causing the abnormal sound. Field Remedy Upgrade to DCON Ver.60.01 or later as the fixing rotation speed during low speed operation has been changed to 123mm/sec. When upgrading, be careful for the following combinations. E009-0002/E240-0004 Noise (click-click sound) from the Fixing Assembly due to spattering Grease Description In a machine prior to the following serial number, the pressure release cam [2] that controls pressure release operation of the fixing film area [1] or the cam portion [3] of the 46 T gear cannot stop at each pressure release position and may continue rotating, causing noise (clacking) from the fixing assembly, thereby resulting in E009-0002. In case of a machine prior to MN-CONT Ver.60.39, E240-0004 occurs. - E009-0002: The fixing film unit does not stop at the pressurizing position within 10 pressurizing attempts. - E240-0004: No response after 1.5 minutes has passed since the print request from the main controller to the DC controller. [Reference] [A] is the correct stop position of the pressure release cam [2].

Cause Because grease applied to the idler 17T/27T gear [4] and the 19T gear [5] of the inner paper delivery roller, and the drive gear train on the copier side scatters during operation and adheres to the pressure release cam [2] in the film unit and the cam portion [3] of the 46T gear. As a result, friction resistance decreases, and the pressure release cam [2] or the cam portion [3] of the 46T gear cannot stop at the pressure release position correctly and then continues to rotate and repeats pressurizing and releasing the pressure. a) Friction resistance between the pressure release cam [2] and the pressure plate [6] decreases When the amount of grease applied to the idler 17T/27T gear [4] and the 19T gear [5] of the inner paper delivery roller is too much as shown in [B], and the grease adheres to the pressure release cam [2] during operation, friction resistance between the pressure release cam [2] and the pressure plate [6] decreases and the pressure release cam [2] cannot stop at the correct position. If the amount of grease is appropriate as shown in [C], the symptom does not occur. (Please refer to TP10 332a.pdf).

pg. 69

b) Friction resistance between the cam portion [3] of the 46T gear and the pressure release stopper plate [7] decreases When grease applied to the drive gear train [8] on the copier side is too much or solidified, and the grease adheres to the cam portion [3] of the 46T gear during operation, friction resistance between the cam portion [3] and the pressure release stopper plate [7] decreases, and thus the cam [3] in the same axis with the 46T gear cannot stop at the pressure release position correctly.

Filed Remedy When the symptom occurs, clean the parts with alcohol by following the steps below. 1) Remove the screw [1] and the gear cover [2].

1104/1101 Jam Codes occur due to the delay in timing of opening the swing guide (Finisher-C1) Description Finishers having serial numbers earlier than below had 1104 or 1101 jam when there were the two conditions together. [Conditions] 1) Mode: Staple sort mode or sort mode 2) Paper size: Small (A4, letter, etc.) - 1104 : Feed path sensor stationary jam - 1101 : Inlet sensor stationary jam Cause In correct operation, when the swing guide[1] opens, the swing arm[2] coordinates and lifts the swing roller [3] by about 2.5mm to the escape position. However, the sliding performance of the swing arm [2] was poor and there may have been a delay in lifting the swing roller to the escape level. Therefore, delivered paper [4] was stuck at the swing roller [3] and caused stationary jam.

Field Remedy According to the following steps, apply the super lube grease (FY9-6005-000) to the 2 locations of the sliding face of the swing arm in the swing guide. Grease will help the swing arm move smoothly and resolve the delay. 1) Remove the front cover, the rear cover and the left upper cover. Lower the tray below the grate-shaped upper guide. 2) Remove 5 screws to remove the grate-shaped upper guide. 3) Apply approximately the size of a rice grain of the super lube grease (FY9-6005-000) to each of the 2 locations of the sliding face [a] of the swing arm in the swing guide.

Transfer Cleaner Assembly Leakage

GENERAL:

This Technical Publication details how to prevent waste toner from leaking out of the Transfer Cleaner Assembly, FM4-7244-010, onto the Yellow Developer Housing. As a result, the Waste Toner will migrate in the laser cavity causing copy quality issues.

DETAILS: When the machine is running, waste toner leaks out of the Transfer Cleaner [1], FM4-7244-010, and waste toner falls on the Yellow Developer Housing [2] [A]. The toner will eventually migrate onto the Laser Assemblies [3] [B] and then cause copy quality issues.

It has been found that when the Cleaning Blade is replaced, it is possible that the waste toner guide, [4] [C], bends and blocks the toner from being fed into the Waste Toner Case Assembly. The Waste Toner eventually backs up and causes the symptom discussed earlier in this Technical Publication.

Manufacturing changed the surface processing of the mirror spring [2] from plating to painting in the scanner unit [1]. This change in surface from plating to painting affects the adhesiveness of the light blocking sheet [3]. The light blocking sheet [3] may peel off over a period of time. When the light blocking sheet peels off, it will block the path of the light and cause the black band as described in the details of this Technical Publication.

SERVICING PROCEDURE: When this issue occurs, please see the attachment named “Procedure for Removing Light Blocking Sheet.pdf”.

This Technical Publication details troubleshooting steps to ensure the performance of the ITB Assembly when addressing the issue of a full displacement of the Intermediate Transfer Belt (E075). Canon USA will now have available a full ITB Assembly, (without an ITB Belt), or an ITB improvement kit. Depending on what type of an ITB Assembly is installed in the machine, and old style or a new style, will dictate the delivery of an ITB Assembly or an ITB improvement kit. The lot number [A] or serial number of the machine will determine which item is needed. Please refer to the lot number chart and serial number chart to understand the type of ITB assembly that is installed in your machine.

Page 119: T echnical Work boook - Canon Globaldownloads.canon.com/isg_documents/iAC5051_Tech_Workbook... · 2013. 7. 8. · Symptoms & Solutions Guide highlights how you can resolve the top

DETAILS: An E075 can occur when replacing the Intermediate Transfer Belt in the field, or while the machine is in use by the customer. Checking the values under COPIER > DISPLAY > MISC > ITB-POS indicates the position of the ITB belt. If the value exceeds -300 to +450, an imbalance of displacement to the ITB belt can occur. If this occurs an E075 error code will occur.

SERVICING PROCEDURE: There are two ways to address E075 issues in the field. The charts below distinguishes what ITB Assemblies need either a new style ITB Assembly or the ITB improvement kit, FM4-8409-000. Please refer to the ITB improvement kit instructions attached to this technical publication named “FM4-8409-000 Install”.

Three Points to note when installing the Intermediate Transfer Belt (ITB) on the ITB Assembly:

• Ensure that the Intermediate Transfer Belt (ITB) is inserted inside of the Belt Guide, FL3-4847-000. If it is not, reinsert the ITB inside of the Belt Guide.

• Verify that under level 2 COPIER > OPTION > IMG-TR > ITB-TYPE is set to 2. • Validate that the machine is on an even surface, uneven surfaces will cause E075’s.

Good No Good

When installing the ITB improvement kit, FM4-8409-000, into the ITB Assembly there are some steps that Super Lube, FY9-6005-000, is needed. Please order Super Lube, FY9-6005-000, prior to installing the ITB Improvement Kit.

NOTE:

At accounts with multiple machines it has been bought to our attention that ITB Assemblies are sometimes switched from machine to machine. It is very important to pay special attention to the lot numbers to ensure that the ITB Assembly in the machine matches the lot numbers in this Technical Publication.

NOTE:

In the next steps, achieving a value that is within the tagets specified in the next steps may minimize the occurrence of an E075 error code. If the engine is mounted on a Cabinet Type-B, the adjustment procedure cannot be performed.

NOTE:

When the values are out of range use the following procedure to achieve the targeted values. The directions state to initially turn two rotations, more rotations could be performed to achieve the desired range. A maximum of four rotations could be achieved.

Rotate the Right Front adjuster clockwise two rotations. Run COPIER > FUNCTION > MISC-P > ITB-INIT. Then check the value of COPIER > DISPLAY > MISC > ITB-POS. If the value achieves the range noted, test the machine by making some copies, turn the machine OFF/ON, then execute COPIER > FUNCTION > MISC-P > ITB-INIT. Execute ITB-INIT two more times. If the values stay the same or within the range, the process is completed. Achieving a value that is as close to zero is ideal to minimizing E075 error codes, but if it cannot be achieved ensure the values are within range and then perform three ITB-INITS and make sure that the ITB-POS value is stable.
