This year our theme was ‘Reach for the Stars’.At King’s we believe that within all our students are the seeds of dif- ferent and wonderful gifts and talents. They have been encouraged to experience, explore and investigate a range of entertaining and educational activities that will enable them to see that the sky’s the limit and that is is possible for them to reach for the stars and to become all that they can be. At the opening ceremony, students were amazed by the acrobats from Trix Circus. Some of the activi- ties included ‘Computer Capers’, ‘Telling Tales’, indigenous activities, ‘Bubbleology’, ‘How to be a Star’, ‘The Great Outdoors’, extreme sports, paper plane and kite classes, instrumental music, drama, zumba, origami, fancy dress day and speeches. A selection of guests came and included well known author Roland Harvey and poet Jo Hinchliffe. Thank you to all our special guests, teachers and parents who helped make this week an enjoyable and educational experience for our primary students. Early Learning Programs Parenting with Power

Scripture of the week: “And the child (Jesus) grew in wisdom and stat-ure, and in favour with God and men”. Luke 2:52

Strong-Willed Children or Future Leaders?

A strong will can be an asset… as long as the heart is in the right place. Have you developed some tools to teach boundaries to a strong-willed child in your family while still enjoying the child’s determination?

Children who make decisions with intensity tend to be la-belled “strong-willed.” At the end of the day, their parents feel as if they’ve been engaged in hand-to-hand combat and that the child often wins at the parent’s expense! Most parents consider a strong will a negative personality trait because it often creates resistance and frustration in family life. Yet, in reality, strong-willed children are often better equipped to succeed, face adversity and are creative. Even Jesus went missing for three days when he was just twelve years old, going against his parents’ wishes because he had made up his mind to “ be in his father’s house”, speaking with the Jewish teachers.

It may help you as a parent to remember that children with strong wills have the potential to become the next generation of leaders. They have their own ideas and plans. They know what they want. They are persistent, confident, passionate, and determined to succeed at whatever they choose to do.

Leaders have an agenda, look for ways to incorporate oth-ers into their plans, and have a high need for control in life. Balanced with graciousness, leaders become a treasure be-cause they make things happen, create organization out of chaos, and motivate people to action.

Unfortunately, it is hard to raise a leader. These children tend to have their own ways of doing things and like to tell other people (including their parents) what to do and how to do it. Sound familiar? A strong and persistent will keeps a child moving in a certain direction in spite of obstacles. Often these children need bigger barriers or tighter limits to teach them that those boundaries are firm.

Strategy for the week: Don’t be discouraged or frus-trated by the effort it takes to teach your strong-willed child. The strong-willed child accomplishes things in life, because the roadblocks that might hold others back are no match for this child’s determination. Your job is to help your child know to put God first in all things and to know the difference between obstacles to overcome and limits to live within.

Sparking an interest in the sciences

Term 4 has started off with a bang for our prep stu-dents with a visit to the Sciencentre opening our scien-tific focus. Through “hands on” experiences with real objects/machines children’s interests in “things scien-tific” were sparked. Mass energy and many scientific concepts were explored as children and parent helpers moved through the body zone, action stations, imagina-tion factory and the show zone.

Rise Above WorryThis was in my daily devotional book.

I thought I would share it with you, as there are some who are just natural “worry warts”. It is important to train ourselves to be otherwise. Our chil-dren too need to learn how to deal with worry.

We all worry from time to time, but wise people have learned to avoid over-anxiety by following these guide-lines.

Define the situation clearly. What exactly is it you’re worrying about? Be specific. Often when we take time to clarify the problem, a way to solve it will present itself.

Face the worst that can happen. Would you lose your job? Your relationship? Your investment? In most cases even if the worst did happen, chances are it wouldn’t ruin you. It may be inconvenient or painful, but does it really warrant all the anxiety you’re giving it?

Resolve to accept the outcome, whatever it is. Most of the stress of worry comes from denial, from not being willing to face the worst that could happen. Once you make up your mind to accept whatever happens, you’ll find worry loses its power over you.

Work to improve the situation. Renowned neurologist James H Austin said, ‘Chance favours those in motion.’ Do all you can to ensure the best possible outcome, and ‘... after you have done everything...stand.’ (Ephesians 6:13 NIV) Stand on God’s promises.

Give the problem to God. He’s ‘the...controller of all things’. (1 Timothy 6:15 PHPS) The psalmist said, ‘Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.’ (Psalm 9:10 NIV) Re-member, nothing can happen to you today, or any other day, that God is not aware of, in control of, and able to see you through.

A hiker with two heavy hold-alls was walking down a road in 35 degree heat. A truck driver stopped and told him to hop on. Later when the driver looked in his rear-view mirror, the hiker was standing in the truck-bed still holding his bags!! We smile, but as Jon Walker points out, many of us ‘stand in the truck of faith still carrying our burdens, thinking they’re independent of the ride we’re taking. We think God can carry us but not our burdens... The psalmist said, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.” Rest in His power and grace...confident He’s looking out for your best interests. Rest requires de-pendence, and one sign that you’re not resting in God...is worry...the need to control... Next time you feel over-

whelmed...settle into a chair, “Be still, and know that [He is] God (Psalm 46:10).’ In this instance the command to ‘be still’ here comes from a Hebrew word which means ‘to let go, release, lift up’. You’ve struggled long enough; give your burden to the Burden Bearer. Set it down! Learn to value solitude. Turn off the pager and phone. The sign of a well-ordered mind is the ability to sit quietly in one place and linger in your own company.

Happy parenting. ASAP. Remember the recall. Response decisions. Lifelong learning. Remember the cat will be-come a dog again. Check out Professional Development for Mothers. Encourage common sense. Healed and whole. Media literacy. Forgive quickly. The gift. Follow the direc-tions. Take the time. Check the habits. Laugh, often and loud. Be still and know that I am God. Cast your burden on the Lord.

Walk in VictoryQuote from “Walk in Faith” by Ray McCauley...how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:38

Most of Jesus’ adult life was spent healing the sick and teaching about healing. We must clarify our thoughts re-garding this subject and agree with God’s Word. When we do this we will enter a new understanding of Jesus on the cross and God’s plan for our total redemption. In the name of Jesus we have authority over sickness and disease. Jesus made sure that we would be fully provided for when it came to us walking in divine health.

One man came to us and told of how on visiting our church for a Monday evening healing seminar, he was saved and gloriously delivered of drugs which he had been taking for many years. On returning to his own church the pastor heard what had happened and told him never to go back to Rhema as this was all nonsense!

There is only one thing worse than no knowledge and that is wrong knowledge! When you know the truth of the Word of God, it will set you free.

Study the Word and walk in victory in every area of your life - body, soul and spirit.

Attention: Parents and Guardians of Primary School studentsPlease note that school finishes at 3:05pm for lower pri-

mary and at 3:10pm for the upper primary. We have noted, especially lately, that a large number of students are being collected early from school. Teaching times for all of our stu-dents occur until the end of the school day. Students leaving early interferes with the child receiving instructions and dis-rupts the rest of the class when the teacher is disturbed by a phone call and then must ensure the child is packed up early to leave the class.

Sometimes it is unavoidable to schedule an appointment during school times and we understand that at times this may occur. If these appointments could please be kept to a mini-mum, all students and teachers would benefit.

Regular early finishes for a child, due to an extra cur-ricular activity or specific individual need, must be writ-ten in a letter and addressed to Mrs Lorraine Oswald for approval.

Total Football AcademyPrograms running at Bond University in Term 4 for 3 year

olds all the way up to 14 year olds. No matter how old your children are, we have a program for all.

Total Football Academy will be running the popular First Kicks (4-5 year olds) and Mini Kickers (6, 7, 8 year olds) soc-cer season. Last year during fourth term over 140 players’ took part at the three venues we ran the popular seasons at. Games will be played inside the inflatable fields, which captures the imagination of players, giving them a great soccer experience. Training will take place inside a skills square focusing on different skills each week, such as drib-bling, turning and shooting. As part of the program players also receive a free soccer kit (top and shorts). The season starts on Saturday 16th October at 9.00 - 10.30 am for eight consecutive weeks. SecondaryYear 10 Dinner Dance

Last Saturday night, Year 10 embarked on a great night aboard the MV Imagine leaving Marina Mirage at 7pm for a 3 hour cruise along the Broadwater.

On the boat there was a dance floor and DJ upstairs where everyone went to dance and downstairs was a hive of activ-ity where students talked, nibbled on their cocktail style finger foods and took lots and lots of photos. The colour theme inside the boat was black, white, gold and silver.

The staff on the boat complemented us on the fantas-tic manners our students had on the night. They were ex-tremely hospitable and helped make it a fantastic night for everyone.

It rained lots, but the students did not let it dampen their spirits, they had a great time. Even though the weather was bad, we were blessed with smooth sailing the whole evening.
