The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) installed on the aircraft captured the last 31 m in u te s ofaudio information on solid state electronic memory. The recorder records 4 distinctchannels f rom the aircr aft 's audio system . One channel contains audio infor m ation froman open cockpit area m icrophone that is m o u n t e d in the center of the cockpit above th ewindshield. T he remaining 3 channels contain aircraft radio information f romm icrop h on e s in the Captain 's, Co-pilot's, and cockpit ju m p seat's head sets.The majority of the information found on the transcript w as heard on the cockpit aream icrophone channel of the voice recorder ( labeled cam - on the transcript).Every attempt w as m a d e to identify th e speakers heard on the recording.
