General rules for Student’s evaluation in the Clinical part of Oral Surgery

courses:

1) The minimum requirements of the Course are mandatory to be achieved

To be able to pass the course .

2) Inability to meet the minimal requirements of the Course mean failure in

the clinical part of the course.

3) The overall Clinical grades can be compensated, such compensation is the

course coordinator’s decision

4) The theoretical part will not be used for compensation of the clinical part.

This is mean that each candidates should pass each part of the course (the

clinical part and theoretical part) to pass the course.

6) Each Candidates will receive a log book for the Oral Surgery Course, this

log book should contain all Surgical cases done by the Student through out

his Course.

Log Book:

-The logbook under responsibility of Student.

-The logbook reflects the student’s Clinical performances during the

Surgery Course.

-Continues Clinical Evaluation will be based in this Log Book.

-Student should keep it in good condition.

-The Department may and may not have a copy for each Log Book.

-It is a Student responsibility to ask the Clinical Supervisor who

Observe hem for clinical evaluation. Under no circumstances

The evaluation will be accepted to be placed after the end of

clinical session.

-By end of each session, it is student responsibility to show the

Mark To session Supervisor to be recorded at Department Record, if

Any is available.

Strategy of evaluation Process:

The evaluation Process will include but not limited to the following:

1) History taking and Medical Interpretations

2) Diagnosis and Decision including understanding of the student for

extractions' indication.

3) Surgical Preparation including Selection of proper Instruments and patient

preparation (which include psychological preparation and procedure

description) and following of proper aseptic techniques.

4) Skills in Surgical Procedure including medical managements

5) Patient’s handling & Medical ethics

6) Surgical & Medical knowledge

7) Post-operative Instructions

8) Writing of proper records in the patient's file

Student’s Clinical Session Regulations:

1. Students are permitted to carry out clinical work on registered patients

after signed approval from the course coordinator. All clinical activities

should be under strict supervision of staff members in charge of the

clinical session.

2. Clinical records, radiographs, treatment plan or any other data related to

patients are extremely confidential. It is totally prohibited for students or

staff to remove patients’ record from the files.

3. Should the need arise for the use of clinical records, a written permission

must first be obtained from the Clinical Director or Clinical Vice

Director to copy any part of the records. No personal data MUST be

included in any such copies.

4. Students should sign a patient record privacy form before collecting the

patient file from the filing department during their clinical sessions.

5. Instruments and laboratory materials associated with patient treatment

(finished or unfinished) must not be taken out of the clinic area without

the permission of the appropriate staff in charge (course coordinator or

student supervisor).

6. Clinical record books, schedules of requirements or other records of

student’s work must not be removed from the place of storage.

7. To ensure patients’ privacy, students are not allowed to be in the clinics

area EXCEPT if they have a clinical session.

8. Under no circumstance should students treat patients without permission

from the Supervisors. The supervisor has the right to dismiss any student

violating this rule with zero mark for that clinical session.

9. Food and drinks are not allowed in the clinics area, The Clinical

Director, Course Director or Clinical supervisor has the right to take

appropriate action against offenders (e.g. dismissing the student from the

clinical session with zero mark in that session).

10. All students are requested to wear Name tags at all times in all clinic

areas.

11. Students are not allowed to prescribe Medications for patients during

clinic sessions unless approved by the supervisor of the clinical session.

12. Students are responsible for keeping clinical work areas clean and tidy.

All counter tops should be disinfected at the end of every clinic session and

before leaving the work area.

Clinical Session Supervision Regulations

1) Each group of students in clinical Session should be divided into two

Subgroup or more.

2) Each subgroup usually should be not more than 5 Students.

3) As there are more than one supervisor in each Clinical Session, so

each of them will be responsible for one subgroup.

4) The Subgroup supervision should be alternative each week.

5) It is not allowed that a student from other subgroup to take

consultation or asking for help from supervisor of other subgroup

unless a permission has been taken from his supervisor.

6) The Supervisor of other subgroup should not offer his help to students

not in his subgroup unless a permission has been taken from

subgroup’s supervisor.

7) At NO circumstances, it is allowed that any supervisor to collect the

subgroups for teaching unless a permission has been taken from the

other subgroup’s supervisor. Exception may be applicable in case

of absence. And a written Notification should be sent to the course

Coordinators.

8) Any violation for this regulation should be reported by the Course

Co-ordinator to academic office.

Notes: the Student should: cover all dental chair tubes and handles with

the disposable shield. These should be changed after each patient.

The dental chair suction system (including the sink) should be chemically

disinfected after each patient.

Any violations of these guidelines will be reported and will be considered

in the Student’s evaluation.
