Tailgate Kickoff - Wednesday, August 7

Chick-fil-A has achieved tremendous success by any business standard. They’ve experienced more than a 10% sales increase almost every year since launching in 1946. However, the real victory for the fast food industry icon is the growth of a culture that has nurtured and impacted so many people. Culture is the soul of an organization and every company has a culture, whether leaders consciously mold it or not.

Why does Chick-fil-A exist? What motivates it? From the start, Truett Cathy based his company on Biblical principles, and operated with a “servant leadership” style long before it was called that. The influence of Truett Cathy’s faith is explicit in the company’s purpose, “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A.”

Why does Statesboro First exist? What kind of culture are we building here at Statesboro First? I believe we seek to live out the mission of the United Methodist Church to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We do this through our vision of glorifying God and loving others through worship, study and service.

Are you aware of the opportunities we have to be in worship, study, and service? Do you know the ways we are seeking to share the love of God with others? More importantly, are you taking advantage of these and helping us fulfill our mission and vision?

We need you to help us build the culture of discipleship, to grow the body of Christ, and be a witness in the community around us.

You are invited to join us on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 5:30PM for our Tailgate Kickoff where you can explore the ministry opportunities you can plug into. There will also be great fellowship, food, and fun!

We need you! We want you to be a vessel to share the love of God. How will you commit? How will you kickoff your intentional discipleship for the growth of the Kingdom of God?

See you Wednesday at the Kickoff Tailgate,

Ready? Set? Minister! Are you interested in a ministry that allows you to care for others? You may be lookingfor an opportunity with Stephen Ministry. A one-to-one caring ministry for which you are trained and supported. SFUMC is beginning a new training class on Sunday, August 11 at 5:00PM. We would love for you to attend this first meeting to see if this is a match for your ministry gifts. To find out more about what this ministry has to offer, contact Susan Cason at [email protected] or 912-536-0689. From one of our Stephen Ministers: “I was blessed to be a care giver to a woman who had been recently widowed and had suffered a stroke. During our months together I applied my Christian listening skills as she adjusted to the realities of her new life. Both her strength and our relationship grew.”

SFUMC Security TeamThe Security Team has been growing and meeting as they work to improve security and hospitality for the church. You may notice additional volunteers on the team working together with our on-site law enforcement to maintain a safer and more welcoming environment for all to Worship Without Worry. If you feel led to get involved please contact Charles Sikes (682-2758) or Nick Propps (225-1950) for more information.

Confirmation 2019Confirmation in The United Methodist Church is a time of intentional preparation; it gives students the opportunity to reflect on the most basic tenants of our faith and gives them a safe environment to ask questions and grapple with the truths and mysteries proclaimed by the church and in Scripture.

Statesboro First offers a Confirmation Class in the fall semester for students in 6th grade. We will gather for large group lesson then break off into gender based small groups. These small groups will continue throughout the year.

A parents meeting for our new Confirmation Class will be held in Room 206 on Wednesday, August 14 at 6PM. The students are invited to meet with their Small Group Leaders in the Grace House at 6:30PM. For more information please contact Becca or Clay, [email protected], [email protected].
