Taiwan it’s an officially the Republic

of China, is an state in East Asia.

Flag

The flag of the Republic of China is red with a

navy blue canton bearing, a white sun with twelve

triangular rays. In Chinese, the flag is commonly

described as “Blue Sky, White Sun and a Wholly

Red Earth” to reflect its attributes.

23.261.747 people live in Taiwan.

Capital city The capital city of Taiwan is Taipei

city. Taipei is located at the northern

tip of the island of Taiwan, near the

Tamsui River.

Languages

Mandarin is the official national language and

is spoken by the vast majority of the

population of Taiwan. It has been the primary

language of instruction in schools since

Japanese were forced out in the 1940.

The languages in Taiwan are: mandarin,

Hakka, standard Chinese and Taiwanese.

Official money (currency)

The currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan

Dollar. The New Taiwan Dollar is the

official currency of the Republic of

China (ROC), commonly referred as

Taiwan. The New Taisan Dollar was

introduced in 1949 to replace The Old

Taiwan Dollar.

Important cities

The most important cities in Taiwan are:

Kaohsiung City. Population: 2.772.461. Kaohsiung is a city located in

southwestern Taiwan. It’s divided into thirty-eight districts. It’s the

second largest city I Taiwan, with a population around 2,9 million

people.

Tainan City – Population: 1.874.724 people. It’s a city in southern

Taiwan. It’s the fifth largest city.

Taichung City – Population: 2.655.456. Taichung is a city located in

west-central Taiwan with a population of just over 2,6 million people,

making it the third largest city on the island after Taipei and

Kaohsiung.

Mountains

Taiwan is a mountainous island. Taiwan is mostly

mountainous in the east. The highest mountain is “Jade

Mountain” that is nearly 4 km. high.

The Hsuehshan tunnel or tunnel

"Snow Mountain", is one of the

world's largest tunnel in Taiwan,

located in Taipei-Yilan Highway.

Rivers

Tamsui River is a river in

northern Taiwan. Its origin is in

the mountain Pintian in Hsinchu .

The river flows through the city

of Taipei. Desemboca in the

Taiwan Strait.

River Tamsui

Keelung The Keelung River originates in the mountains west-

northwest of the city of Jingtong, descends into a valley of the

crack and then flows Sandiaoling. It then flows north to a point

and then back toward Taipei, where it joins the Tamsui River and

flows into the sea.

Dajia Dajia River is a river in north-central

Taiwan. It flows through the city of Taichung.

Cultural Facts

The Bunun, also historically known as

the Vonum, are a tribe of Taiwanese

aborigines and are best known for their

sophisticated polyphonic vocal music. They speak

the Bunun language. Unlike other aboriginal tribes

in Taiwan, the Bunun are widely dispersed across

the island.
