Instructions

Each area of the Take 1: An Inventory of Strengths, Abilities, and Interests will provide you with information that will contribute to the creation of Individualized Transition Plans, Individual Graduation Plans, or other planning profiles that may help students gain awareness of potential areas for educational planning, career interests, and independent living needs. The scoring procedures are listed below. This instrument may be used as a basis for transition planning and/or as a unit of activities and lessons.

Career Pathways: Students will circle the choices that most closely represent their interests: Add up the circled numbers (1, 2, or 3) Take the total cumulative number for the section and enter the total in the provided space Find the Career Cluster indicator (A-N) in the Career Pathways Summary Circle the range that represents the student’s total (1-17, 18-28, 29-39) The inventory will indicate the career clusters in a ranked order Place the three areas of greatest interests on the cover page of this inventory

Education/Training: This section will assist in identifying the educational/training post-secondary goal(s) of the student. It answers several questions that include identifying college aspirations and employment interests. The student selects the option that is most closely aligned to their education/training preference.

Employment: This section will assist in identifying the immediate employment goal(s) of the student. Prompt the students to think of themselves as young adults, after having completed high school. Have the students check all answers that apply to their interests. Have the students complete the bordered areas

The first section identifies areas of strengths and abilities The second area is a self-assessment of personal work habits.

Independent Living/Community Experiences: This section will assist in identifying the Independent Living post-secondary goal(s) of the student. This section covers various areas: Future living arrangement Finances Community safety

My Plan for Improvement: This section provides the student with an opportunity to self assess academic skills, and identify employ-ment and independent living needs.
