CONGRATULATIONS!
We have many winners to congratulate this issue. Firstly to Donna Carpenter who won our Go Direct to Fiji competition, just by choosing to pay her levies by direct debit! We wish Donna a relaxing holiday as she enjoys her prize of 7 nights accommodation at WorldMark Denarau Island for 2 adults with return economy airfares.
Dorothy Tibbs was the winner of our New Year’s Crazy Credits competition, and the winners of the 10,000 Bonus Holiday Credits competition are John and Jo-Anne O’Loughlin. At a recent WorldMark owner’s day in Brisbane, Belinda Ashford received a trip to New Zealand thanks to Interval International for telling the best holiday story, while the Shooter family won a holiday to Ireland (thanks to Trendwest South Pacifi c and Interval International)!
Owing to rising maintenance expenses, housekeeping fees will rise on 1 May 2005 to the following:
Standard Deluxe PenthouseStudio $501 Bed $602 Bed $70 $73 $763 Bed $76 $79 $82
RESORT GUIDE ADDITIONS
When we went to press with the 2005 WorldMark Resort Guide, the credit values and season dates for New Orleans weren’t available. Since then, a new apartment type has been added to Seattle, and we discovered our San Francisco values were printed incorrectly. So here are the updated values for you to cut out and stick into your Guide! You’ll fi nd the page number listed under each resort’s season dates.
Please note that you receive a free housekeeping service for each full block of 10,000 holiday credits owned, and that if you do not use your holiday credits in a particular year, your free housekeeping is carried forward to the next year.

hen listing the most romantic cities in the world, there are the obvious few that cannot
be missed – Paris, Rome, even London. Surprisingly, there is a city in the middle of the United States that can lay claim to topping them all. And, not only that, it has a rich culture, beautiful architecture and spirituality to ensure your visit will be the trip of a lifetime, whatever the occasion.
New Orleans’ luscious mix of Spanish architecture, the French language and African spirituality dispute the very fact that it is an American city. But the Mississippi runs past the oldest part of town, reminding everyone that what makes this city so special is the blend of cultures, cuisine, language and life.
WorldMark South Pacifi c owners can now visit this amazing city with the opening of WorldMark New Orleans. The resort sits at the entrance to the city’s Garden District. The historic St. Charles streetcar stops right outside, so getting anywhere - especially the French Quarter - is a snap. WorldMark New Orleans features all the comforts owners have come to expect of the Club, as well as an outdoor swimming pool, a roof-top spa and sun deck, and a full service spa and salon.
The convenient location of the resort allows visitors easy access to some of
NEW ORLEANS
the city’s major attractions, including the Garden District, the French Quarter, famous Bourbon Street, the Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium of the Americas.
But above everything else, New Orleans is most famous as the jazz capital of the US. Jazzfest is one of the longest running and biggest music festivals and features some of the best American and international jazz musicians in the world. In 2005, Jazzfest will be held from April 22 to May 1, but if you are unable to visit during the festival you will not miss out. A visit to the French Quarter at any time of the year will see you uncover hundreds of alluring restaurants and jazz clubs.
If you have heard anything about New Orleans, chances are you know it is a party town. The biggest party by far is the Mardi Gras. The Carnival season usually begins in New Orleans in January and includes lavish balls and parades. Mardi Gras is the fi nal event in the Carnival calendar and is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday – the beginning of Lent. The parades usually have themes, borrowed from mythology, history or Hollywood. Mardi Gras has become a New Orleans institution and, if your trip coincides with Carnival season, it will leave you with not only long-lasting memories, but also the party of your life!
Even if you miss Mardi Gras or Jazzfest, make sure you check for events
happening in the city, because there are so many festivals and events that whatever time of year you visit, there’s bound to be something happening.
But, of course, New Orleans isn’t just about partying or carousing in the French Quarter. The city’s streetcars are the perfect way to explore the city, especially the American Sector. If shopping is what you crave, the streetcars will deliver you to the famous Magazine Street. With almost 10km of shops, boutiques and restaurants, it’s a shopper’s paradise.
If you want to explore the city on foot, why not undertake a personalised walking tour on the banks of the Mississippi? Printed walking guides, including all of the city’s major attractions are available from tourist and visitors shops throughout the city. Or if you have been on your feet a little too long, why not take a riverboat cruise along the mighty Mississippi? Enjoy the opportunity to view what has been called the world’s most unique city while cruising the largest river in the US.
Experience true southern hospitality with a visit to an original plantation home. The southern style architecture of the homesteads, such as the Oak Valley plantation, built in 1839, will awaken a time gone by. history tour in the US by Lonely Planet. The tour is based on the memoirs of Laura Locoul Gore, who lived on the plantation for almost 100 years. Tours of other plantation homes run from New Orleans, where visitors will hear interesting, amusing and spooky stories of the home and its history.
New Orleans is renowned as the most haunted city in the US. It is also the hometown of author Anne Rice, famous for her Vampire Chronicles. The city has thus become a mecca for those seeking excitement and mystery. New Orleans has many houses that are thought to be haunted, and there are several ghost and vampire tours that operate throughout the city. Another source of interest for many are the unique New Orleans above ground cemeteries, or Cities of the Dead, as the locals refer to them. The numerous cemeteries scattered throughout the city are the fi nal resting places of many of the city’s famous fi gures, such as renowned voodoo queen Marie Laveau.
Aside from being one of the most romantic and unique cities you’re likely to ever visit, New Orleans also offers everyone from families, singles, couples and friends an endless array of activities. The Aquarium of the Americas is in the top fi ve in the US and features the largest collection of sharks and jellyfi sh. There is also a rare white alligator, penguins and
New Orleans has become famous for its cuisine. It is possible to interpret the history of the city through a range of magnifi cent dining experiences. The mix and mish-mash of Creole and Cajun food, as well as French and Spanish will have your mouth watering and your senses enticed. If it is something light that you crave, you will fi nd a New Orleans signature dish - beignets (ben-yeas), a light puff of French pastry covered with powdered sugar, perfectly accompanied by a cup of café au lait, at any one of the

cafés or patisseries in the French Quarter.
The city’s reputation as the cultural centre of the southern states is well justifi ed by its abundance of museums, art galleries and theatres. New Orleans is also home to the United States offi cial World War II museum, the National D-Day Museum. Located nearby is the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Contemporary Arts Centre. Be treated by a night at the New Orleans Ballet or Opera – the oldest opera in North America. The city also hosts a number of travelling shows and original productions as well as Broadway plays and music acts at various theatres located throughout the area.
Whatever you are looking for – be it culture, history, romance or just plain fun, New Orleans will leave its mark on everyone, young or old. But the New Orleans Visitors Bureau has a warning for all those who see their city:
“There is a Southern expression that signifi es the welcoming attitude around here… ‘y’all come back and see us.’ But ask someone who has moved to New Orleans permanently why they are here, and expect to hear a much repeated story: ‘Well, I came here for Mardi Gras, (or Jazz Fest, or to visit a friend, or for a wedding), and I never left.’”
One visit will leave you hooked!

MAIL BAG + HOLIDAY MEMORIES
Dear Destinations South Pacifi c magazine,A great story from our latest WorldMark holiday - a wonderfully memorable 50th anniversary
reunion.
Lillian and I were married in Brisbane 50 years ago last November, and our favourite wedding
photo was taken at our reception by a close work mate of mine at the time, Len Milliken. Len
and his wife Narelle now live at the Gold Coast, and Lillian and I live in Sydney. For some time since we retired, we have been inviting them to come and stay with us for a
week or two in Sydney. And so we were delighted when they said in their last Christmas card
they would like to come here early this year. We phoned them immediately and the dates
were decided. We then thought where will we take Narelle and Len to make this a memorable reunion
for us all. Our decision - let’s include three days in the Hunter Valley, staying at WorldMark
Pokolbin Hill. A concert at the Opera House, a day on the ferries on Sydney Harbour and a visit to Olympic Park were all great. However, the
many vineyards with their wide variety of “Cellar Doors”, the galleries, craft shops and the magnifi cent Hunter Valley Gardens,
all coupled with the excellent accommodation and very helpful staff at WorldMark Pokolbin Hill, made these three days the
highlight of our anniversary reunion holiday.Thank you WorldMark for enabling us to enjoy these three fabulous days at Pokolbin!Best Regards,Lillian and Ralph Schubert

re you a WorldMark South Pacifi c Club owner and have been mixed up about the difference between bonus time
and FAX credits? The perfect chance for you to learn about the world of opportunities that WorldMark opens up for you is at one of our WorldMark Owner Education workshops!
Owner Education workshops are all about showing you what your options are. There are so many different facets, uses and possibilities of your ownership that some “inside” information can be very helpful!
The workshops explore all the basics of your WorldMark ownership – from defi ning the relationship between WorldMark and Trendwest, to explaining exactly what your holiday credits are, and the guidelines for their use.
Our friendly presenters also take you through the process for making reservations, cancellation policies, how to save and borrow credits, housekeeping, using Fax credits and purchasing gift certifi cates to share the WorldMark South Pacifi c Club experience with friends and family.
At a workshop, owners will also learn about the WorldMark South Pacifi c website and the advantages of using the site for everything from planning your holiday to using it to view availability for using your credits or bonus time.
The workshop will also give you a guided tour through some of the “added extras” that make your ownership so exciting. You will learn about the advantages of bonus time and how to use it to its full potential, as well as the possibilities of your Exchange
membership, how to make a reservation and the specials available to you through Exchange options.
You will also discover additional owner benefi ts available to you simply for being a WorldMark South Pacifi c Club owner, for example discounts on Avis rental cars, WorldMark Travel Club, and special Trendwest and WorldMark South Pacifi c Club merchandise.
There will also be information about how to take part in both Club Tours, (WorldMark escorted travel to hand-picked destinations), and Escapades (specially planned owner events).
And even though Owner Education workshops are held in lots of different locations throughout the country, we understand that it’s often diffi cult for you to fi nd the time to attend. So, we also offer an over the phone service.
Aside from being a fantastic opportunity to fi nd out more about your Club and how you can make the most of it, the workshops are also a great way to meet other owners and share WorldMark experiences – which might just prove to be an inspiration for your next holiday!
