Economic Development Strategy 2013–2017Council endorsed the Economic Development Strategy 2013–2017 at its meeting in December 2013.

The strategy sets out a list of actions to guide the city and relevant stakeholders in driving local economic activity and programs for 2013–2017 and has strong links with the objectives and actions of the city’s Corporate Business Plan.

As part of its development, the city undertook a four week public consultation period. A number of suggestions were made by members of the community where the strategy could be approved or adapted. These changes were incorporated where appropriate.

The strategy also incorporates feedback from the local business community, gathered through a series of workshops and forums held by the Subiaco Business Association and as part of a workshop with key stakeholders in July 2013.

The social implications of an economic development strategy are positive and far-reaching. Effective economic development strategies and programs will ensure that the city’s economy is strong and vibrant and that the city remains a unique, popular and welcoming place for businesses, residents and visitors.

The Economic Development Strategy 2013–2017 is available for download at www.subiaco.wa.gov.au and in hardcopy form at the city’s Administration Centre, 241 Rokeby Road, Subiaco by request.

The city encourages recreationThe city’s Use of Active Recreation Areas policy, recently adopted by council, aims to facilitate sustainable use of the city’s two main active recreation areas: Rosalie Park, corner of Thomas Street and Aberdare Road, Subiaco and Hickey Avenue Park tennis courts in Daglish. Nicholson Road Reserve in Subiaco, also classified as an active recreation area, is not covered by this policy as the use of that park’s facilities are generally free for use by the public.

The three sites offer different recreation opportunities including tennis, petanque, skate boarding, soccer, lacrosse, cricket, rugby, touch football, and Australian Rules football. All active recreation areas are open to the public for passive recreation pursuits when not in use by approved sporting groups. Some areas do have restricted times for dog walking.
