® ® Tan Ping Abstract Art In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we’re making a modern abstract art piece inspired by the contemporary Chinese artist Tan Ping. Tan’s work is characterized by the use of loose brushwork, color blocking, and a recurring motif of “drips” that look like they’re running across the canvas in all different directions. Using just a cereal box, some paint, and a straw to blow the paint around, you can create your own fun and modern, Asian inspired abstract art piece! 980 macarthur causeway, miami, fl 33132 305.373.KIDS(5437) • www.miamichildrensmuseum.org/museum-at-home Cut your cereal box along the folded lines. Tan Ping Abstract ArtIn celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we’re making a modern abstract art piece inspired by the contemporary Chinese artist Tan Ping. Tan’s work is characterized by the use of loose brushwork, color blocking, and a recurring motif of “drips” that look like they’re running across the canvas in all different directions. Using just a cereal box, some paint, and a straw to blow the paint

around, you can create your own fun and modern, Asian inspired abstract art piece!

Cut your cereal box along the folded lines. You should get two big pieces and a few thinner “flap” pieces. You only need one big piece as a base. If you don’t have a cereal box, just cut out a large piece of cardboard as your base.

Paint your base piece with different colors! Get creative and use different colors to add color blocks to your piece. The lines don’t need to be straight or even! This is an abstract art project, so let the paint move around freely and experiment with shapes.

Paint the smaller pieces using different colors, and let dry.

Think about your final composition and glue down the smaller strips horizontally,

vertically, or diagonally on the base.Add a few drops of water to a small amount of paint in any color you choose. Add a couple drops of paint to a corner of your

painting and use the straw to blow the paint across the page.

Lay your abstract art piece flat to dry and you’re done!

Continue adding drops of colors and blowing air through the straw to create cool abstract

marks on your piece.
