Formal BriefDefinitionThis is a brief that may change over time during the different processes and other

requirements. It will be laid out in a formal way which then creates it to be very easy to read. It usually gets straight to the point and doesn’t include any unnecessary details. It is mostly targeted toward companies rather than individuals.

Negotiated BriefDefinitionIt is very similar to the formal brief but It can have some in put on the creation from

both the client and the company. These types of brief are usually created over the phone. It also includes different parties who both have different ideas but then come together to compromise and make a final decision that both parties agree on and are happy with.

AdvantagesAn advantage is that there is a limit on the number of people involved in the decision

which then allows on the problem being solved faster.

DisadvantagesA problem could be that the two parties view points are so different that it could take

a long time for them to come to a final decision and it will be difficult to achieve a final answer.

Competition BriefDefinitionFor example you could have a competition for a new logo and the winner would get a

prize.

AdvantagesIf it is advertised well you could end up with lots of results. When doing the

competition for a new logo, you would get a wide range of different logo ideas that you wouldn’t be able to think of by your self.

DisadvantagesIt could go the opposite and you may not get many response and if you set the

competition for the winner to get £1000 and you get only 5 responses that are not as good, you will then have to give the winnings to someone who’s entry is not what you were looking for.

Negotiating a BriefAre there any potential legal/ethical/regulatory issues with the brief’s proposed product?

You need to understand understand the brief so you don’t create anything offensive towards the audience. I need to make sure that at I understand that people chose to be vegetarian because of heath or personal choice. I also need to make sure I research into legal and the laws of copyright so that I don’t take any images offline or include any brand names. I also need to make sure that when I do my work I need to avoid comparing my work to any other companies as this could be offensive.
