Review of my website

How well did the product meet my original intentions?

When looking back at my original intentions of the website I would say it has changed. The reason I believe my website isn’t exactly the same how I planned it to be is that some things were too time consuming and I needed to be a lot more realistic in what I could get done in order to meet the deadline. For example one thing that I didn’t bother with was to make the interactive map of Australia and put it on the homepage. I planned for that to one of the main thing I wanted to include for my website but when the time started to make my website I needed to make sure the more important features on my website got done first. These things consist of a logo, the banner, the navigation all working correctly and the images and information on my website. All these features were time consuming but I do feel like they paid off as they have helped me achieve a very attractive and professional website. I feel like I did keep the same layout I was planning other than the interactive map. I still kept the basic look on every page as I planned. The screen icons were the same as my plans as I had them in the top right hand corner and they were shaped as a square too. The same goes for the banner, title and logo; they were all still positioned in the same way as I planned. The colour scheme and my font all kept the same throughout my website so I believe that I did still stick to my planning very well but there were a few things such as the interactive map and the less information on the pages that I had to cut down due to the time schedule.

An overview of the production process

When making my website I had

to go through a production process in order for it to be completed. With

Page 2: Task 3

thanks to my planning sketches I was able to have the perfect idea on how my website was going to look. I made sure I had a copy in front of me or at least up on my screen so I could always have it to go back to whenever I was unsure or sometimes when I couldn’t remember how a certain page should look. I created a schedule on how long I should have on each task I needed to do for my website and I feel like I did over run on a few tasks. Another negative is that Flash as a software was a nightmare when it came to using it at first. When I did work and saved it, it would always crash and I would have an uncorrupted error. This meant that all the work I had done was lost which made me waste time trying to re do the things I had already done. This was a big negative for me and made we lose valid time so the production process did get messy for a while but I did find a way around it. The only way I could make sure most of my work was saved (It couldn’t be promised that all my work would save) every time I did one thing e.g. added a title, added a picture I would Save As on the Flash document so it would save everything so I would be updated constantly. This process of saving was long winded and was a pain but at least I could have a chance to save it and that way or working worked well and I didn’t seem to have that many problems after that. Over all some of the tasks I did were done dead quickly so I had extra time to spend on more tasks which I was a unrealistic about (therefore I was behind on them) when I wanted it to be completed on but I feel like the production process was a success overall as my final aim of finishing my website was achieved and I am impressed with my website I have created.

How well did I manage my time?

Page 3: Task 3

I feel that I was able to control my time very well. For every day that I was creating my website I made an aim for that day and that aim I stuck to all day until that aim was achieved and I made another plan. I feel like this way of working works well as it makes sure that I reached the deadline and that I have organised when and how I will do that feature before even starting, rather than stressing out and rushing my website. I feel like I could have managed it more so I could put more features within the website. A bonus idea that I considered for my website was to include animation in my website. I thought it would be a brilliant idea as it would make my website unique and attractive and make much more visitors enjoy visiting the website. But once again the reason why I didn’t do it was the same as why I didn’t make the interactive map. So in some cases I don’t think I have managed my time as well as I could but I do think I managed my time well enough to make sure it was complete and at least what I did I feel was to a high standard.

A critical evaluation of your finished product

I feel like my website was an overall success. I feel like it turned out a lot better than I thought. I feel like the graphics and the effects I was planning to use would look ok but when I went to do it, it managed to look so much better and professional than I anticipated.

I believe that my website is to a high standard compared with the websites I see on the World Wide Web. Therefore I can see a company using a similar website to what I have created.

The layout of my website is a layout I believe I would see on other websites similar to the same theme as mine. I feel like every graphic I have created and imported to my website is in the correct place. I feel like the most important information that I wish to show on my website is in a place which can be easily read.

Page 4: Task 3

The navigation on my website works greatly. I feel like my navigation appearance was very attractive yet simple at the same time. My navigation has been tested so I know all my links work when trying to send to different pages. I feel like the navigation I have considered is very helpful.

I feel like the colour scheme of blue works well for my website as I see blue a holiday colour especially in Australia where it is full of bright blue skies and seas. The constant scheme running throughout the website makes it x10 more attractive than if each page was different styles. I feel like it’s a main content to use for my website as if the website wasn’t pretty, neat and simple people would be put off surfing on that website and would look for another but I feel like my website Is a worthwhile visit and wouldn’t put anyone off booking with us due the appearance of the website.

I feel like my website does attractive backpackers into discovering my websites and I do believe backpackers would want to use my website in order to find the best place to stay in Australia because of the content and the images and the layout I have used for my website helps persuade them to pay by use. I feel like the simplistic of the website is easy for any visitors at any age could use to book. I think the information is useful for people who haven’t even gone backpacking before as I have made sure the information content helps give a good source of information so people would know what each place in Australia is like and useful tips in that certain area.
