Task 4:

Here are some examples of the front cover of Kerrang! Magazines;

- All the Kerrang! Magazine covers follow the same layout and design.- The black Kerrang! Header and the main image that dominates the frame appears in

every magazine

- Having relatively the same layout just with different text and images gives themagazines a structure that people will know and recognise as Kerrang! Magazine

- The colour scheme again is the same throughout these 3 different covers- Yellow and black are the colours that are used which is an effective contrast, however,

the yellow doesnt relate to the front cover image.

One reason why this magazine is not suitable for my final magazine is because it only really targets men, even

though both genders buy the magazine the overall magazine is mainly targeted towards men. We can tell this

from the colour schemes used as theyre mainly dark and masculine colours and the covers dont generally

look feminine. Another reason why this might not be appropriate for my final magazine is because they only

really target male bands and dont have as many covers dedicated to female artists.

Even though I really like the design of the front cover of Kerrang! The colours used are very dark and almost

depressing whereas I would like my magazine to be more upbeat and bright. Because of this I will use brighter

colours which will make the magazine look more user friendly.

The overall design of the contents page I will use in my final magazine, this is because I like the use of small

pictures giving a summary of whats on the page rather than just rows and rows of words. I think it is effective

for the target audience as teenagers arent going to be wanted to read pages and pages of text.

- Even though the percentage difference between men and women isnt massive it still shows

that the majority of readership is done by men, hence why more of the magazine is targeted by

men

- This shows that the class range is middle class as the magazine is a weekly issue so you need

to have a good income to be able to afford it every week

Age:

- 15-24: 63.2%

- 25-34: 17.4%

- 35-44: 11.2%

- 45-54: 6.8%- 55-64: 1.4%

- This shows that the majority of the magazines readership is done by 15-24 year olds, because

- Mainly targets rock bands and is an integral part of the scene rather than just a

commentator.

Kerrang! Is expanding massively by having its own magazine, radio station, website, clothing range

this shows that he genre of music is very popular with young people today. I like the fact that themagazine has expanded into different areas. The musical genre that is being portrayed is shown in

each section. For example on the radio station the rock music genre is played.

Evolution of rock music:

heavy metal. He helped kick start the genre known as heavy metal

- Another artist named Pink Floyd added psychedelic elements and complex arrangements

into rock music creating a concept of albums tied together by a single theme, something

that had never been done in rock music before. He gave birth to the spawning of the

progressive rock movement.
