Page 2: Task 7 Flat plans

This design is based on many different examples of posters that I saw. I have done this because the posters seemed to be effective and also they looked good. It also made them nice to look at as they weren’t too busy. The rhetorical question featured on the poster should make the audience think more about the subject of the poster. Also, the font I will use for the main bit of text will look rough so that it relates to ‘sleeping rough’ which will be the subject of the poster. The image will take up the entire background however it will be pretty much black at the top so that the text will stand out more against the background. The main focus of the image will be positioned underneath the text so that the audience will understand more what the poster is about. I have put the SASH logo in at the bottom left so that the poster will contain the charity’s name and logo so people will become more familiar with it. Also, by doing this, the poster will contain the charity somehow and the poster won’t just be a random poster.

Text (rhetorical question)

Image taking up the background but the main focus will be about here. Fading to blackness towards the top. SASH

Black background. White writing. Rhetorical question/phrase.

This design is for a bus advert. There is an example of the layout underneath my flat plan to help visualise my idea.

Along the top of the banner there will be the writing for the poster. I will be using a rhetorical question to get people thinking. The top will also be all black so that the white text will stand out. Also because then it will fade into the image which will be located at the stalk of the advert.

The image I will use is placed at the stalk so that it is the last thing that the audience will see. The image itself will also give more depth to the poster and make people realise what the advert is about, making it more effective.

I have put the logo along the top banner so that all the writing is in the same banner and the image stays unaffected. This will also make the green of the logo stand out against the black background.

SASH Logo

Main text ‘What would you do?’.

Use image of teenager to aim at SASH’s audience.

Don’t use black and white image just use dark colours.

Image to fill the entire background. (Portrait).

No white around SASH logo. (Do on Photoshop).

‘What would you do?’ is a rhetorical question and gets people to think.

This is an example of the style of font I will use for the main copy.

Use own image but edit it to fit the layout so that the top banner is black and the stalk is the main focus of the image.

Poster image style. The style of image I want to feature on my poster will consist of a homeless teenager asleep on the streets. It will be a portrait image so that it can fill the entire poster without becoming stretched. The homeless teenager will be closer to the bottom of the image as they will be featured underneath of the text. This is because the image will give more insight to what the poster is about.

Bus image style. The image style that I want to feature on my bus advertisement is a portrait image of a homeless teenager sat in the streets. I want to set my image like this because then the person will fit perfectly in the stalk of the poster. Also, by doing this, I can make the poster become darker and then totally black for the top banner. This will allow for the text on the poster to stand out.

I chose the fonts Broken Detroit, Dystopian Future, 28 Days Later and All Ages because they all looked rough and fitted a homeless look and general stereotype very well. I also chose it because they are bold and stands out against the other fonts in that category. Also, I saw another couple of posters (below) with a similar font where a man was sleeping in front of an eroding wall and one where the homeless man is stuck sleeping on the street. I feel that it suited the posters very well. Another feature of this font is that it is not your average font like Arial or Time New Roman.I think out of all the fonts I have chosen I will most likely choose either Dystopian Future or All Ages because they will stand out against the black background without having to change the colour and risk losing some detail in the font.
