MANAWATý JOURNEYSThemed around the concept of ‘journeys’; this exhibition focuses on the experiences of the many peoples who have made Manawatł their home. Where did they settle and why? Not only is the exhibition a story about the past, but also about the present. To tell these stories, the exhibition uses our extensive social history collection of objects relating to social and working life.

This exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity to recreate ‘slices of life’ from the past that children can experience in our education programmes. These include a 1950s Four Square, a mini-theatre and a 1950s caravan.

An ever-changing programme of temporary exhibitions complements our semi-permanent displays. Check out our website for full details on our current exhibitions.

Loan Kits

Te Manawa has a range of loan kits available for education groups to hire. Check out temanawa.co.nz to download a catalogue and see what is on offer.

Back of House - Our Collections

Part of what we do is to share our amazing collection of taonga. We are only able to share a proportion of this through our exhibitions at any given time. Groups of around 10 students at a time can go ‘behind the scenes’. As well as viewing collection items our curatorial staff can share with you what they do and how it is done. This is by special arrangement and requires two weeks notice for curatorial staff.

Booking is essential for all groups visiting Te Manawa, regardless of whether you intend self-guiding through our galleries or taking part in one of our many programmes. To make a booking or to discuss your requirements call our Bookings Administrator on (06) 355 5000.
