Google Directory

• The directory itself can be found in the upper left hand corner of Google.com

• The directory has links to the many different tools and sites that are owned by Google

Page 11: Teaching the Google Tool Set Dr. Tom Seymour Minot State University Minot, North Dakota tom.seymour@minotstateu.edu

What is a Google account?

• A Google account is a personal user account that provides access to services provided by Google. A Google account functions as a single log-on across Google ; you need to create only a single Google account to access all Google services

Page 12: Teaching the Google Tool Set Dr. Tom Seymour Minot State University Minot, North Dakota tom.seymour@minotstateu.edu

Why do you need a Google account?

• While you can use many Google services, including its main search page without a Google account, other services require the user to establish an account and to be signed into the account in order to use that service. For example, to access your individual Google Docs documents, you need to be signed into your Google account; all your documents are stored under your account name.

Page 13: Teaching the Google Tool Set Dr. Tom Seymour Minot State University Minot, North Dakota tom.seymour@minotstateu.edu

Which Google services require a Google account

• Those services (what Google calls “products”) that store personal information are more likely to require the establishment of a Google account. They include Google Docs, Google Calendar, Gmail, Blogger, YouTube, and iGoogle
