We are living by our school motto which is “We learn as we grow” and the ethos “Opportunities: no one misses out”. Listening to each speech delivered by most of the Year 6 students, is what I am most proud of this term. Each Year 6 student is a winner and a leader, as they were able to reflect on their time as successful learners, with an abundance of confidence and creativity, who are all motivated to reach their full potential and ready to move on to high school. As they: Are able to think deeply and logically, and obtain and evaluate evidence in a disciplined way Are creative, innovative and resourceful, and are able to solve problems in ways that draw upon a range of learning areas and disciplines Are able to plan activities independently, collaborate, work in teams and communicate ideas Are able to make sense of their world and think about how things have become the way they are Are on a pathway towards continued success in further education, training or employment, that acquire the skills to make informed learning and employment decisions throughout their lives Congratulations to our new School Captains Finlay Lamont and Wulaaran Walker and our School Vice Captains India Stephens and Toby Hill. Dear Parents

Term 3 been an outstanding term in many aspects.

Being recognised as one of 15 schools in the whole of

NSW in regards to “Local schools, Local decisions”

with our community partnerships has been a highlight.

Partnerships between staff, students, parents, carers

and families, the broader community, business,

schools and other education and training providers

bring mutual benefits and maximise student

engagement and achievement. Partnerships prompt

support for the development and wellbeing of our

young people and their families and provide

opportunities for our young to connect with their

communities, participate and develop a sense of

responsible citizenship.

Our great NAPLAN results, which indicate clear growth

in every one of our students from Year 3 to Year 5, in

all areas especially reading, where we doubled State

average. This data positively supports the design of

our high-quality learning programs and fulfilling our

school direction of being a School of Excellence. We

are living by our school motto which is “We learn as

we grow” and the ethos “Opportunities: no one misses

out”.

Listening to each speech delivered by most of the

Year 6 students, is what I am most proud of this term.

Each Year 6 student is a winner and a leader, as they

were able to reflect on their time as successful

learners, with an abundance of confidence and

creativity, who are all motivated to reach their full

potential and ready to move on to high school. As they:

Are able to think deeply and logically, and obtain

and evaluate evidence in a disciplined way

Are creative, innovative and resourceful, and are

able to solve problems in ways that draw upon a

range of learning areas and disciplines

Are able to plan activities independently,

collaborate, work in teams and communicate ideas

Are able to make sense of their world and think

about how things have become the way they are

Are on a pathway towards continued success in

further education, training or employment, that

acquire the skills to make informed learning and

employment decisions throughout their lives

Congratulations to our new School Captains Finlay

Lamont and Wulaaran Walker and our School Vice

Captains India Stephens and Toby Hill. Only a few

votes separated the entire group.

Congratulations to all staff and the members of our

valuable partnerships as we are all working together

successfully.

Please come along tomorrow to the end of term

assembly at 2.00pm. To celebrate individual student

achievements, values awards, performance by the

school band and Kindergarten.

Have a well deserved restful holiday break and I

continue to look forward to learning, teaching and

leading next term.

Peter Cooper (an ex SHPS student)

has Insulin Dependent Type 1

Diabetes. Last year’s Student

Representative Council (SRC) decided

that all money raised by their

fundraising would be given to Peter

and his family to help purchase a new insulin

pump for Peter. This pump is very expensive

costing over $8,000.00 and Peter needs it

replaced every 4 years. The SRC also wrote

letters to local businesses asking for help.

The Lions Club contacted the school and invited Lilly Pacey (2016 SRC

President) and Elliot Joyce (2016 SRC Vice President) and Peter and his mother

Jenny to their meeting.

Today Peter and his family received a cheque from the Lions Club to purchase

his new insulin pump. Lilly and Elliot also presented Peter with a cheque for

$858.30 which was the amount they raised last year. The Lions Club’s cheque

made up the remaining amount for the new insulin pump.

Weekly round up

All of our students are developing the essential skills in literacy and

numeracy and are creative and productive users of technology, especially

ICT, as a foundation for success in all learning areas, through our coding

program.

Students are enjoying learning about the logic behind computer coding by

using Bee Bots and code.org courses.

Computer Programming in Kindergarten

This week Pak Terry brought in the Bee Bot Robots!! They were so much

fun! We learnt how to program the Bee Bots using an algorithm (steps for the robots to follow). It was really hard at first,

we had to use a lot of problem solving strategies! Eventually we had success and our Bee Bots were following our

programming instructions! Fantastic mathematicians in Kinder! Bu Bettina

Computer Coding

Kindergarten have been studying how things move in

Indonesian Science and the photo shows them with their

fabulous designs of something that rolls. Great work

Kindergarten.
