About the Convention

About The Institution of Engineers (India)

IEI Coimbatore Local Centre

The Main objective of this Convention is to

provide a platform for researchers, engineers,

academicians as well as industrial professionals from all

parts of India to present their research and development

activities in the theme of the convention. Submitted

convention papers will be reviewed by technical

committee and the selected best papers will be published

in the National Journal of Technology.

The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the

largest multidisciplinary professional body that

encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives

engineers a global platform from which to share

professional interest. IEI has membership strength of

more than 0.8 million and Established in 1920, with its

headquarter at 8, Gokhale Road, Kolkata - 700 020. IEI has

served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades.

In this period of time it has been inextricably

linked with the history of modern-day engineering. In

1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains

the only professional body in India to be accorded this

honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has

given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and

relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions

among professional engineers, academicians and research

workers. It provides a vast array Industries, Academia and

the Engineering fraternity, operating from 122 Centres

located across the country. The IEI provides grant-in-aid to

its members to conduct research and development

activities on engineering subjects.

IEI conducts Section A&B Examinations for

different engineering disciplines and the successful

completion of which is recognized as equivalent to Degree

in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized

Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources

Development, Govt. of India. Every year as many as 90000

candidates appear for these exams. for details please see :

The IEI, Coimbatore Local Centre was founded in

the year of 1965, under the Chairmanship of Dr. G.R.

Damodaran, an educationist, who is also the architect of

PSG College of Technology. Over the past 50 years the IEI

Coimbatore Local Centre has contributed a lot to the

engineering community and to the society and has

grown to the level of IEI, Regional Centre.

PSG College of Technology started in the year

1951 by the PSG & Sons Charities Trust is an AICTE

approved government aided autonomous institution

affiliated to Anna University and ISO 9001 Certified.

The educational programmes have been accredited by

the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

PSG College of Technology believes in creating

and disseminating knowledge and skills in core and

frontier disciplines through innovative educational

programmes, industrial training, research &

consultancy and developing a new cadre of

professionals with a high level of competence, deep

sense of social Commitment and ethics. A number of

educational programmes are offered in Engineering,

Information Technology, Management and Science &

Technology at Bachelors, Masters, M.Phil, M.S. & Ph.D.

levels on full time and part time basis. PSG College of

Technology has collaborative arrangements with

industries, research laboratories and universities

abroad in various areas of joint academic programmes,

research and training.

The Department of Textile Technology was

started in the year 1965. The courses offered are

Bachelor degree courses (B.Tech - Full time & Part

time). Master degree courses (M. Tech - Full time & Part

Time) and Doctoral programmes (Ph.D), National

Board of Accreditation of AICTE has accredited B.Tech

and M.Tech - Textile Technology Programmes in 1997,

for 5 years and subsequently in the years 2004, 2012

and 2017.

All the laboratories in the department are

approved for carrying out research leading to Ph.D.

Degree (Full time and Part time) by Anna University,

Chennai. The Department is also offering Full time Ph.D

and M. Tech programmes under Quality Improvement

Programme (QIP) of AICTE, for the faculty members of

various engineering college and engineers working in

government organisation in the country. So far 60 Ph.Ds

have been produced in the Department.

There are several sponsored projects currently being undertaken in the department. The Department recently

received the Mentor Award for Best Industry Linked Engineering Institute 2015 for Chemical & Allied Engineering

Institute by AICTE and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

PSGTECHS COE INDUTECH is a project funded by Office of the Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Gol,

under Technology Mission on Technical Textiles (TMTT) for the promotion of Technical Textiles in the month of March

2011 with Rs.25 Crores grant. The COE is set-up with production capabilities, Testing Instruments and consultancy

required for Industrial Textiles. Some of the products identified under this sector are Filters, Coated Fabrics, Abrasives,

Automobile Carpets, Scrubs and Interlinings.
