As we enter our fifth season of operations at the Old Town Temecula CommunityTheater, it is easy to feel the awe expressed by audiences thrilled by wonderment inthe short time the Theater has been open. The degree to which the community hasembraced the Theater can be expressed by the extent of its use; both the Theaterand the Merc are booked every weekend throughout the year!

Temecula Presents will once again offer four series of artistic expression byexceptional artists:

Audiences and performers aliketreasure the intimacy and acoustical

brilliance of the Merc.

• Classical Music, featuring international pianistJon Kimura Parker and a new commission basedon the life of Erle Stanley Gardner

• Dance, featuring our first international company

• Big Band and Cabaret Orchestra, with a first-time holiday concert, and

• Friday Night Groove, featuring the Blues andother American originals

We’re welcoming the second year of ArtsConnection, our arts-in-educationpartnership with the Theater Foundation and the Temecula Valley Unified SchoolDistrict. Twelve times during the school year, children will be bussed to the Theaterfor performances programmed to foster intellectual, social, creative and emotionalgrowth for the community’s adults of tomorrow.

Not surprisingly, our dance concerts have thoroughly captured the imagination ofpatrons of all ages. We sold 24 tickets to the first dance performance on ourstage in September, 2006, and sold-out at a recent dance concert this year.

New this season, our patrons will be able to print tickets at home and presentthem at the doors of the Theater, thus bypassing the ticket office altogether.

The Theater is a magical place – a place where humanity confirms itsexceptionality – it is a place where creativity and curiosity communicate. And what

makes the Old Town Temecula Community Theater alluring and special is: It’s so close to home.

See you at the Theater.

If you think about it, California is a marvelous place. There’s unsurpassed scenic beauty, magnificent wine, gold rushes, motionpictures, fabulous cities, you name it. The surprising thing is that music has been written about all of it: “I Left My Heart InSan Francisco”, “Sunset Boulevard”, “The Folsom Prison Blues” and even surfing with the Beach Boys. The Showtime All StarsOrchestra will be joining guests Derrik Lewis, star of the Palm Springs hit Musical Chairs; Renee Jensen, regional theaterfavorite; Jamie Snyder, star of The Most Happy Fella and HollyDazzle and Al Yankee, a beach boy at heart. We thought it wouldbe fun to perform the music while showing videos illustrating this wonderful state. This is different. Don’t miss it!

OnStage Musicals producesboth the All Star Big Band, agroup of top instrumentalistsand alums from the Les Brown,Stan Kenton, Tex Beneke andHarry James Bands, and theclassy, sassy collection ofprofessional recording artiststhat comprise the OnStageCabaret Pops Orchestra.

The Big Band All Stars Swing GershwinThe Big Band All Stars with Guests Cassie Miller and Richard Leibell, Conducted by Jeff Stover and Al YankeeSUN, MAY 30, 2010 @ 2pmTickets: $37/$35/$31

George and Ira Gershwin come close to being the most prolific and successful songwriters of the last one hundred years. Dozens ofmusicals and hundreds of songs fill their portfolio with hit after hit and has become a significant part of the All American Songbook.Every self-respecting singer includes a little Gershwin on the program. Of course, George Gershwin was not just a song writer, havingwritten a number of orchestra pieces that are now classics. “Rhapsody In Blue” and “An American In Paris” are heard frequently inconcert halls everywhere. We will feature new arrangements of this great music performed by the Big Band All Stars, Cassie Millerand Richard Leibell. You will remember Cassie from last season’s “Tribute to the Big Bands.” Richard, long a star in the Palm Springsarea, will be flying in to sing “’S Wonderful!” and other Gershwin favorites.

The great musicals of the past, My Fair Lady, Camelot, South Pacific and many others have a spot inour hearts that can’t be replaced. However, there is a marvelous group of “Hot New Shows” thathave helped to define the ‘modern’ musical by illustrating a whole new approach to musical theater. We have assembled a fantastic cast of award winning singers to bring “Hot New Musicals” to life. TheCabaret Pops Orchestra will accompany Debbie Prutsman, John Lalonde, Lisa Livesay, and PaulKehler to thrill you with their magnificent voices and dynamic stage presence.

Many of the hit songs from motion picture and stage musicals wereduets: Beauty and the Beast, “People Will Say We’re In Love” from Oklahoma and “All I Ask of You” fromPhantom come to mind. There are just dozens of these great songs out there so we thought we’d bring togethertwo couples who just sing the heck out of them. Kirsten and Stan Chandler and Kim Huber and husband, RogerBefeler (‘Beauty’ and the ‘Beast’ on Broadway and the national tour) will be belting them out. Yes, we aregoing to do some “boy/girl” duets, but also, two gals doing “In His Eyes” from Jekyll and Hyde and two guysdoing “Agony” from Into the Woods. We may even have all four of them in some slam-bang finale!
