Principal’s Message

This Friday some of our students are participating in Klin-up

PNG on World Environment Day at Ela Beach. We are happy

to support this initiative and a small group of students lead

by Miss Steyn will be working hard to make the beach look

beautiful again. In our school we also like to promote a clean

school and recycling. We believe that if we all cared more

about our environment we would all be living in a much

cleaner and happier place. As part of our efforts to improve our communication with you,

we have organised a very large notice board at the Gabaka

Street entrance, which we can use to inform parents about

special events and also provide the occasional friendly

reminder. We hope that you check this board regularly

besides the weekly newsletters and class information that is

sent to you to inform you about what is going on at the

school. We have also subscribed to a bulk message service,

which we have put in place to contact parents quickly if e.g.

after school activities are cancelled. We always try to

improve our service to you.

The board will be meeting this week to decide on the closed

tender that was distributed for the supply of security at our

school. We will be receiving advice from Mr. F. Molen the

security manager from the IEA, and the board will ensure

that the safety of the children is their highest priority. We will

keep you updated on the decision that is made. Our school

had a lock down practice last week and we were very

pleased with the response of the children. It is good to see

they are so aware of what they need to do at the school to

keep everyone safe. Currently there are a number of children with chicken pox in

the younger years and there has also been a case of

measles. Please make sure that you keep your children at

home if they are ill and inform us about any infectious

diseases that are going around so that we can advise other

parents.

During Week 5, a group of Science Ambassadors

coordinated by Ms Karlyne Pukaiia, External Affairs Analyst

for the PNG LNG Project (Exxon Mobil Company),

conducted geology workshops for the Grade 7 and 8

students at TEMIS. The students firstly learnt about safety

in the workplace (of primary importance with mining

industries) before learning about the main groups of rocks,

how they are formed and the significance of the rock cycle.

The students were then introduced to samples of rock and

were asked, under direction, to classify them and to then

support their answers with observation. The students

found the sample of obsidian quite fascinating. The most

enthusiastic students from each of the four classes were

presented with Exxon Mobil shirts and pencil cases.

Next week (Week 9) Prep will hold its

Cake Stall on Friday. This is a huge event

for the Preppies and their parents and

there will be a fabulous range of lovely

treats on offer. To make sure your

children don’t miss out on a special gooey

sticky morning, please remember to send

money to school on the day (prices will

range from K1 to K5 and change is often

limited so if possible please send small

money). Just a heads up – early in Term 3 the

Parent Group will hold a PG meeting in

the hour before school finishes for the

day, followed by fun activities and a

barbecue for all families “new” and “old”.

Further details to follow shortly… If you would like to be included on (or

removed from) the Parent Group mailing
