PROJECT STATUSOn Feb. 9, 2016 the Tempe Streetcar project reached a funding milestone with $75 million included as a recommendation in President Obama’s budget for Fiscal Year 2017. Congress must ultimately approve any federal funding as part of the appropriations process in the coming months.

The project received a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in October 2015, which indicates that the 3-mile project will have no significant environmental effect on the neighboring communities. The FONSI comes following the project’s Environmental Assessment (EA), which evaluates the potential impacts to the neighboring environment, including noise and vibration, traffic and parking, and historical and archaeological resources.

The Tempe Streetcar project capital costs are estimated at $177 million and will be funded using regional Proposition 400 funds, local funds and federal grant dollars.

NEXT STEPSCompetitive procurements for streetcar vehicles and design, construction and artist contractors will begin. Construction will initiate in 2017 with opening scheduled for 2019. Community outreach will continue throughout the project, including business outreach.

ESTATUS DEL PROYECTOEl 9 de febrero de 2016, el proyecto del Tranvía de Tempe llegó a un hito significativo en su financiación con $75 millones de dólares incluidos como una recomendación en el presupuesto del Presidente Obama para el año Fiscal 2017. El Congreso debe en última instancia votar para aprobar cualquier presupuesto federal como parte del proceso de asignaciones en los meses venideros.

En octubre de 2015, el proyecto recibió de la Administración Federal de Transporte (FTA por sus siglas en inglés) un Hallazgo de que No Hay Un Impacto Significativo (FONSI por sus siglas en inglés), lo cual indica que el proyecto de 3-millas no tendrá efecto medioambiental significativo alguno en las comunidades circunvecinas. El hallazgo FONSI sigue a la Evaluación Medioambiental (EA por sus siglas en inglés) del proyecto, la cual evalúa los impactos potenciales al entorno circunvecino, incluyendo ruido y vibración, tráfico y estacionamiento, además de recursos históricos y arqueológicos.

Se calcula que los costos del proyecto capital del Tranvía de Tempe ascenderán a $177 millones de dólares, y se financiará usando fondos regionales de la Proposición 400, fondos locales, y dólares de un otorgamiento federal.

SIGUIENTES PASOS Comenzarán las adquisiciones competitivas de los vehículos del tranvía y del diseño, de la construcción y de los artistas contratistas. La construcción comenzará en el año 2017 y la apertura está prevista para 2019. Se continuarán los esfuerzos de participación comunitaria a través del proyecto, incluyendo esfuerzos de alcance hacia los negocios.
