TEMPERATURE CONTROL SYSTEMS:
Why Don’t They Work ?
WHAT WENT WRONG?
WILLIAM J. COADCOAD ENGINEERING
Where We’ve Arrived:
• Digital control has replaced analog control with few exceptions
• In the very near future, the “exceptions” will have been removed
• Hardware is continually improving in reliability and capacity and decreasing in cost
Where We’ve Arrived:
• As a percentage of cost, software development, custom programming and commissioning have become much more significant than hardware
• Many companies have seriously underestimated the need for and the cost of custom programming and system commissioning. As a result, most systems have failed to perform to their capability.
Benefits of Digital Controls
1. They are information rich
2. They are infinitely flexible
3. They are expandable
