TEN HERTZ

Introduction

.02

We are a creative laboratory. We build be-spoke machines.

Bringing your imagination into reality. We work closely with advertising agencies, events companies, brand owners and artiststo create technology for ground-breaking experiential campaigns, interactive media projects, retail displays and art installations.

We design, build and test everything that we make, which means that not only will it meet your exacting aesthetic standards, but it canbe relied upon to function smoothly and seamlessly when exposed to the public. Your brand’s image is at stake, after all.

Glenfiddich 21

.03

Glenfiddich 21 Year Old whisky is finished in Caribbean rum casks. To highlight this unique Caribbean connection, we created an installation involving the whisky itself, and a collaboration between Caribbean singer Calma Carmona, and the Cooperative Scottish Orchestra.

Our engineers designed and built a col-lection of intriguing machines that used a technique called cymatics to visually depict the merging of Scottish and Caribbean cultures. The apparatus picked up different frequencies, which were then used to manipulate the whisky and enable it to ‘dance’ in different ways: geometric waves, spiralling waterfalls and a world first, a levitating whisky sphere.

The video achieved 11.9 million views online(57 million across all media), leading to more than 58,000 views on glenfiddich.com

Nastro AzzurroSound Brewery

.04

Working with Nastro Azzurro, we developed The Sound Brewery Project 2016, taking the ingredients in this famous Italian beer and transforming them to produce music.

Using eight kilometres of water-filled tubing, our engineers developed a water-based touchscreen, custom-designed Neodynum magnet turntables and a highspecification, super-sensitive laser. This laser could read and interpret the characteristics of the raw Nastro Azzurro ingredients, just as a needle would read the grooves of a record.

The advanced technology was then used by a DJ to produce music, kaleidoscopic patterns and mesmerising visuals.

The film rapidly went viral, achieving millions of views and creating widespread debate among forum users on Facebook alone.

Sky #ShootTheMovie

Sky

This unique DVD shooting machine was designed and created for a live streaming competition held by Sky and administered via Twitter.

The Sky Launcher machine erratically sways while launching DVDs at shelving illustrating Sky’s “Buy & Keep” product. Users tweeted to enter the competition and, using their Twitter handle to play, they were assigned a specific shot that could win them a prize. This unique contraption generated 1.8 millionTwitter mentions and #ShoottheMovie was the UK’s most heavily used hashtag onlaunch day.

Hendrick's Topper Hats

.06

To promote the artisan gin, Hendrick’s, we created the Topper Hats: a set of groundbreaking interactive headpieceswith inbuilt audio and lighting. Using specially designed software and an EEG reader, each hat had the power to read its user’s mind, interpreting their brain waves as images symbolic of their mental state. The hats were premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015, but due to their phenomenal popularity, they continue their journey around the UK, drivingfurther engagement with the brand.

Perrier Jouet L'Eden

.07

For the London Design Festival and London Fashion Week 2016, we created the core technology for L’Eden by Perrier Jouet our second collaboration with Bompas and Parr.

Extending over two floors of Soho gallery The Unit, it was a stunning living garden that responded to the behaviour of all who entered. The vines lining the entrance partedin response to the arrival of every new guest, before they encountered the Green Mirror – a living wall with a responsive mind. With 18 movement points, dynam-ic LED backdrop and breathtaking sound design, it reacted to its surroundings intel-ligently. Approaching too fast caused the Mirror to retract; with more gentle guests, it felt at ease. The moving limbs of the Dancing Tree followed each guest on their way out. And like everything else in L’Eden, the tree appreciated its guests: when they waved goodbye, it waved right back.

Pringles

.08

To support Pringles’ ‘X-men: Days of Future Past’ sponsorship for YouTube, we designed and manufactured a machine to extract the very last Pringle from the tube… with just a little help from the X-Men themselves.

Mirroring the X-Men’s superpowers the Ten Hertz engineers created a machine with a robotic version of Wolverine’s claws, a powerful Magneto-style magnet and a Storm-inspired suction and smoke system: all tools to assist in the extraction of that elusive last Pringle.

The machine was an online hit, with theresulting YouTube video achieving overfive million views.

We were approached by renowned culinary installation creators, Bompas and Parr to deliver an immersive chocolate-tasting experience for Thorntons, to help the brand's customers discover their perfect chocolate. Taking the concept from design to live in just two weeks in January 2016, we helped create a unique Sensory Accumulator machine.

The experience involved placing the participant inside our sensory deprivation chamber. An ambient LED light and sound programme provided an immersive setting. When he or she had succumbed to the environment, they were presented with asingle, perfect chocolate to relish in their state of heightened sensory awareness.

Glenfiddich In-Store

.10

Glenfiddich

Following the huge success of the Glenfiddich 21 Year Old film project, the idea was developed into an eye-catching in-store exhibit. A specially adapted version of the machine was created and displayed as an installation in Selfridges for a month of customer interaction encompassing Father’s Day 2016.

Customers were invited to control the cymatics through our custom-developed software, enabling them to influence the movement of the whisky – and watch it dance to the music.
