TERM 1 - 2017 In this issue …. A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT …. Welcome 2017, we have an exciting year looking forward, with the construction of an expanded facility and another exciting competition season ahead. Competition will begin with our Senior Gymnasts preparing for March Senior Regionals, and April Senior States. These gymnasts will have a shot at Queensland team selections to compete at the Australian Championships in June. Good luck to all these hard working athletes and coaches. To bring you up to date on our building plans, we are making final adjustments to our design plans with the builder BBN, and construction is scheduled to begin February. You will see the fences erected in next few weeks. I ask for your patience during this 9-12+ month period as there will be disruptions to class viewing and gymnast access. We endeavour to have all classes run ‘business as usually’, however, please listen for direction from your coaches as we work through these changes. To bring the project back into budget we have had to exclude a range of work, which we see can be completed in the following 12 months by our tradesmen within the club. I strongly ask that if you are handy with the tools, and are keen to assist the club with aspects of this extension, we could do with your help. In particular, over the next few weeks, our project coordinator, Brent Hall has a need for a cabinet maker or carpenter, to assist with moving some cabinets from the current office into the demountable. The demountable will serve as our temporary Administration Office during construction. Also as skilled volunteers come forward, we will be planning Phase 2 of the build (not included in the initial build); being upstairs offices, spectator seating, floor coverings, painting etc. Any help will be valued. Please email [email protected] or phone Brent directly on 0408 621 410. To recognise our hard work in 2016, I am very proud to again give thanks to the committee, staff, parents, our partners, and the gymnasts, on our recent success at the Gymnastics Queensland 2016 annual Awards night. Maroochy Beach was successful with the following awards: Community Grants award, 1000+ registered members, Club hosting award and Club promotions & community engagement award. Our community engagement award is exciting as we continue to work with the community and our latest partnership seeing the ‘Ocean Performance Centre’ starting regular classes in our gym with their elite surfers. Finally, as we grow, I will point out our newest class offering being the “Adults class” held on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm - 8 pm. I encourage anyone interested in contacting the club as the numbers are building and will reach capacity soon. Again, if you can help in any way toward our extension, please contact the club and we would love to have you on board. Enjoy the term. TERM 1 - 2017

In this issue ….

WELCOME TO TERM 1: Maroochy Beach Gymnastics Club extend a warm welcome to all new gymnasts enrolling for Term 1 2017

and welcome back to gymnasts resuming from last year.

Maroochy Beach Gymnastics Club is dedicated to providing quality gymnastics programs presented by

experienced and knowledgeable coaching staff. Gymnastics will extend your child physically, cognitively

and socially; and help them to learn and develop, not only with their gymnastics skills, but also

coordination, confidence, self-esteem and team comaraderie. We know your child will enjoy participating

in our classes but should you have any enquiries regarding your child’s progress or our class curriculum,

contact the office to arrange a meeting with your child’s Program Manager.

Our term blocks run concurrently with the Queensland State school terms. Term 1 classes commenced

Monday 23rd January with classes operating through to Saturday 1st April. The Club is closed on public

holidays. Classes run as normal on pupil-free days; as well as Brisbane EKKA and regional show days.

Term accounts are emailed to families prior to the commencement of term; or upon mid-term enrolment

within classes. All accounts are on a 7 day basis – that is, payable by the end of Week 1 of the term; or

within 7 days of your child enrolling within classes. A 10% late fee will be applied where the term fee is not

received by the due date. Click here to log on to your online portal to view your account balance; update

contact details; view term dates and your child’s class times.

Current members are given first invitation to enrol for each subsequent term. Students enrolled in our

Under 5’s and Fundamental Boys and Girls programs are requested to pay a $25.00 enrolment deposit to

secure their child’s position in class for the subsequent term. Children are enrolled in to the same class time

and day unless a vacancy is available in another class session; or the coach has progressed the student to

the next level. Enrolments for Term 2 will open on Monday 6th March and close on 25th March. If your

enrolment deposit is not received by the closing date, your child’s position in class will be offered to a child

on our waiting list.

Please ensure your child is prompt to arrive for class. It is important for children to participate in the class

warm-up as a preventive to injury. To ensure the safety of all members, parents are requested to escort

children to and from the car park in to the gym facility (a central meeting place will be arranged during

construction works) Students are requested to bring a water bottle to every lesson and have long hair

neatly tied back. Parents are not permitted to enter the training area – the exception being Gym Explorer

and Astronauts classes (1 – 4 years). As a safety precaution, we also request that spectators refrain from

talking to students or coaching staff during class.

Detailed information is available in the

2017 Club Handbook, downloadable from the

Parent Information tab on the Club website:

to provide a visual aid when learning a skill. Students may

also be photographed during in-house or external events.

Please advise administration staff should you prefer your

child not be photographed and/or their image published

on internal and/or external media.

Have you ever watched your child somersault and thought … I wish I could learn that?

As a not-for-profit organisation, Maroochy Beach Gymnastics Club relies on fundraising endeavours to

purchase new equipment for all of our athletes and improve our facilities. We are launching our Term 1

“Cadbury Chocolate Drive” fundraiser in early March. In previous years, the Cadbury Chocolate Drive has

proven a popular & very successful fundraiser for the Club.

Each family will be given one box of either Cadbury “Freddo and Friends Fun Pack” or a mixed “Goody Box.”

You may swap your given box at the administration office should you have a preference.

We suggest you sell the chocolate bars to family members, friends; neighbours; workplace colleagues; or

purchase the chocolates yourself. Please advise our administration staff should you prefer to make a

donation in lieu of selling chocolates.

All money collected is returned to the office no later than SATURDAY 25th MARCH . If you sell your box quickly, you may request additional boxes through the office. There are great incentives including a family movie voucher for the family selling the most boxes of chocolates. Fundraising activities such as this drive will make a vital contribution towards improving facilities for the benefit of our gymnasts. In anticipation of a successful fundraising drive, we thank you for your support.

The administration office has excess stock available at bargain prices. Only available while stocks last.
