Principal’s Report

Primary Celebration

We celebrated 80 days of schooling last Wednesday, now we would like to celebrate the achievements of our Primary students with an open afternoon. The open afternoon will be held next Friday (21st June) from 1.30pm. The classrooms will be open from 1.30pm until 2.30pm then we will all assemble in room 10 for acknowledgement of the students and maybe even a story or song.

Parents, carers, friends and relatives are invited to come along for some or all of the afternoon.

While you are here you might also like to browse the Book Fair which will be on display in the corridor.

Exams & GAT

Over the past two weeks our Year 10-12 students have been involved in either semester exams, the GAT or both. The semester exams provide teachers with summative assessment of the work students have learnt over the past two terms. The results feed directly into student reports, which will be available on the last day of this term. The GAT (General Achievement Test) provides a snapshot of students’ general ability in the key areas of written communication, maths, science, humanities, the arts and social sciences. The results are used to moderate (check) student achievements in exams and other assessments to ensure that overall re-sults are fair and accurate.

School Council

We had a busy night at School Council last night with quite a few discussion points on the agenda. The following policies were approved:

Bullying Prevention Policy Staff Leave Policy Personal Mobile Devices Policy

These polices will be available on our website early next week. The main interest lies in the policy on personal mobile devices. In summary, students are permitted to have personal mobile devices at school. The devices must be on silent at all times and can be used if necessary at recess and lunchtime. These devices can be used during class time with permission of the teacher in charge. There are mobile apps which teachers allow students to use for educational activities such as Kahoot. This is encouraged under the direct guidance of the teacher. We expect our school values of respect and responsibility be applied at all times whilst at school, travelling to and from school and on excursions and camps. If students do not comply with the policy and any associat-ed regulations, then the student Behaviour Management Plan will be implemented. There has been exten-sive consultation with students and staff and at Policy and School Council around important parts of each of these policies.

Sailing Camp

The weather in Geelong last week was a little bleak at times nevertheless our Year 9 students managed to get in some sailing time. Thanks go to Mr Williamson and Miss Dixon for accompanying the students and congratulations to the students on their good behaviour and positive attitude.

Coming Up

End-of-term is rapidly approaching. We have a little over two weeks before school finishes for the end of

Term 2. Meanwhile, report writing is front and centre for teachers, the Year 9-10 netballers will be off to

Horsham next Friday and the Careers Expo will be held at Longerenong on Tuesday 25th June. We are look-

ing forward to Friday 21st when the primary classrooms will be open in the afternoon and they will be show-

ing some of their work for parents, carers and relatives to come along and look at.

Primary Prattle…….What’s happening in the

Year 4-6 room The Year 4/6 students have worked very hard this semester and are looking forward to the end of term. Next week will be our last week of ‘DRUMBEAT’, while the students were a bit hesitant to begin with they settled in and have enjoyed their time with Rev James. During DRUM-BEAT on Wednesday the students shared how they had changed since the beginning of the program. I was very pleased to hear how positive their responses were and how they believed they had changed. As a class we would like to thank Rev James for teaching us to believe in ourselves and to play the Djembe.

Usually students can come up with plenty of reasons why they do not want to be at school. When they were asked to give one reason why they do like to come to school, it took them a while to consider the rea-sons they attended school.

I like to come to school so I can do PE (Kybe)

I like to come to school to see my friends (Brock)

I like to come to school for the fun activities (Jade)

I like to come to school because I get to see my friends (Cody)

I like to come to school to play sport (Anas)

I like to come to school to learn maths and music (Jazmyn)

I like to come to school because I like my teacher (Esther)

I like to come to school to learn new things (Alynah)

I like to come to school to see my friends (Claire)

I like to come to school so I can get out of the house (Tristan)

Everyone had their own interpretation of why they attend school mine is, I like to come to school to create a future for our children.
