In week 3 our students in Years 3, 5 & 7 will participate in the annual NAPLAN
tests. The official test dates are:
Tuesday 12th May Language Conventions & Writing
Wednesday 13th May Reading
Thursday 14th May Numeracy
Friday 15th May Catch up day
Students participating in the tests must be at school on time to commence testing
at 9:30am on each of the days. If a child is late or absent due to illness or family
reasons they will need to sit the test on Friday 15th May as a catch up test.
Teachers have already started familiarising students with the test formats and
what to expect during the testing period. The National Assessment Program
website states that “excessive preparation is not useful and can lead to
unnecessary anxiety”. Please support your child by reminding them that all they
need to do is to try their best, the tests are a “snapshot” of their learning, and
they have the ability to show their skills and understandings in many other ways
over the year.
On an administrative side, the work can be complex with normal class routines,
and rosters having to be altered. Please help us to simplify the process by
informing the school if you;
know your child will be absent during this period
would like to discuss the possibility of withdrawing your child due to disability,
religious beliefs or philosophical objections to the testing
If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to talk to your classroom
teacher or make an appointment to see me, via the front office.

The Health program began with water and sun safety. Early years students learnt to sing (with appropriate actions) the 5 S’s of being Sunsmart; namely, Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide. Primary Years designed Sunsmart hats and learnt about radiation and UV rays. Middle Years students focussed on skin types, UV rays and their effects and researched sunscreens, their active ingredients and how they work to protect us from sunburn and produced posters about their discoveries. They then went on to research types of skin cancers and which are caused by sun damaging exposure through sunburns.

Lately Middle Years students have been focussing on positive Body Image and have worked in groups to write and perform a song, poem or rap to tell others that each person is unique and to accept every person just as they are without judgement. They are aware of the many pressures placed on young people to be “perfect” through media and other sources; and the dangers of depression and isolation which leads some young people to cause harm to themselves.

Body Image
(Sung to the tune of Let it Go)
The fridge glows white in the kitchen tonight,
Not a food scrap to be seen.
People say I’m overweight, but I don’t care coz
I’m me.
I don’t care what others think coz I am unique…
I know that no-one’s perfect and no-one is like me
Body Image, Body Image, it ruins people’s lives…
Body Image, Body Image, the mirror always lies..
But I am free and I am me….
Body Image, Body Image,
It will never get the best of me..
And in the words of Coles… Ta-Dah! by Angela, Daniela, Imogen and Lucy P3

Don’t Change
I am the one and only,
No on is exactly like me,
So don’t try and show me,
The me I don’t want to be.
Don’t change the way you are,
Leave puzzled thoughts way back far,
You like your smile, you like your hair,
You like your body everywhere.
You are perfect in your own way,
No matter what people say,
So don’t change,
Just stay the same,
And forget about those upsetting names. by Stef, Steph & Issy
