Head of School Report
Dear St John’s School Community,
Everyone is welcome to our St John’s ‘KidsMatter’ launch next Friday July 29. Information was sent home earlier in the week. The launch will commence with a Classroom breakfast at 8.15am -8.45am. At 9.00am – 9.30am there will be a School Assembly followed by a Parent Information session from 9:30am – 10:15am. We encourage as many parents from our school community to be involved in the launch. KidsMatter Primary is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools and is proven to make a positive difference to the lives of Australian children. It is a way to demonstrate the focus on being inclusive and the importance of wellbeing in our school community.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, The NED Show is coming to St John’s next Thursday for Year 1-6 students. It has been a few years since their last visit to our school. This show visits students every year across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, United States and Canada. The 45 minute character education assembly promotes positive attitudes and encourages students and staff to do their best every day. During the assembly, students will learn about NED’s three messages, ‘Never give up’, ‘Encourage others’ and ‘Do your best,’ while also enjoying storytelling, magic, humour and yo-yo tricks. You can also access many online resources at www.theNEDshow.com .
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all your mind, and with all your strength. Mark 12:30
Comment -: It's a tall order, but when you are totally committed to the All Mighty you'll find He is totally committed to you.
God’s abundant blessings to you all.

Devotional Thought
Luke 12:13-21
J2 class had the opportunity to share this story with the whole school on Wednesday at our chapel service. We enjoyed learning about a rich man who was storing up all of his riches here on earth. To be honest, it is actually a hard lesson for a lot of us to learn, don’t you think? In western culture we are encouraged to put ourselves first. To work hard and make enough money so we can enjoy life…. Eat, drink and be merry so our rich man says in the bible reading.
The challenge in this story is that we are all called to work hard, to do our best and often this results in making lots of money. Perhaps owning a beautiful house, a nice car, a boat, the latest toys etc. Our class talked about what is it that God is showing us through this story? Are we placing our faith in God with what we own? Do we trust him to provide everything we need? Are we being generous with what God has provided for us? Also, does money itself actually make us happy?
We thought it was important for every person to consider how can we all be generous towards others and to ask ourselves do we have too much and are we often too selfish. A great story which allows us to consider ourselves and be thankful for all that we have. Remember, God wants us to store up our riches in heaven, not on earth.

Drop Off & Pick Up News
Students who exit from the Pakington street gate after school, now have a safer waiting area, located behind the fence. The gates have been removed for easy entry and exit. This area is where students will now wait in order to keep them further away from traffic and also keep the footpath clear. Students can get into their car when it is safely parked in the parking bays.
Students are not to enter cars when they are parked along the yellow line. Thank you.
Please be aware that if you park opposite the School on Aberdeen St, please use the supervised crossing at the traffic lights to safely make your way to and from School.

Meals for Families in Need
From time to time families in our School Community require meals to help them through some difficult events – be it illness, death or other trauma. We currently have a group of families who help out during these times. Sometimes it is just a one off meal that is required and other times it is ongoing meals across the school year via a roster. If you are willing to help out and join the meal roster, could you please forward your name and email address to Michelle.
There are disposable containers available for meals as well as a freezer for storage in Angela McLean’s office so that we can store a small bank of ready available meals. If you know of a school family in need could you please contact Angela or email [email protected] so that the meals can be arranged.

Rubbish Free Lunch Day
RUBBISH FREE LUNCH DAY – Tuesday July 26
Next Tuesday, July 26, the SOAP Squad (Save Our Amazing Planet) is organising a rubbish free lunch day. The idea is to have much less rubbish floating around our school and much less rubbish in our bins, which eventually goes to landfill. Students are asked to bring food to school with little or no rubbish. Apple cores etc. can still go in compost buckets. Each class will have their own bin in which any rubbish is collected. The SOAP Squad will weigh rubbish from each classroom after lunch. We challenge everyone to bring lunch boxes to school with very little or no waste packaging. We thank all parents and students for their cooperation.
Mrs. Burger, Anna, Rachael, Mila, Amy.

Last night the St John’s Lollipops played the Monarch Kittens. We had an even scoreboard at half time but unfortunately lost the game 8 goals to 3. With no subs and a game which made us run till our chests hurt, the girls put in a tremendous effort. Well done girls on your efforts and I hope you have recovered well so you can look bright for school photo day!
