Join us for the 3rd Annual Term 4 Debating

Training Program

Program Structure: 3:15 – 3:45pm – Afternoon Tea

3:45 – 4:45pm – Years 7 - 9 seminar & Years 10 – 12 Seminar

4:45 – 6:00pm – Small groups with coaches/Practice debates (1:10 ratio)

The program is interactive to allow debaters to implement what they’ve

been taught. Weekly sessions will involve seminars, group activities and

practice debates.

Topics Covered:

• Intro to Debating

• Types of Debates

• Principled or Rights-

based Arguments

• Carrot or Stick Debates

• Fact Based Debates –International Relations Topics

• How Adjudicators Think

Who is running the program? Chris Bisset is the Chief Adjudicator for the ISDA & CAS debating competitions. He is also the coach for the Victorian Schools

Debating Team & CAS Representative Team.

Elle Jones is the Chief Adjudicator for the Archdale Debating Competition & coach for the Archdale Representative Team.

Between them, Chris & Elle have been: Best Individual Speakers at the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships in 2011

& 2012, Champion of the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships in 2012 and Grand Finalists at the World Intervarsity

Term 4 Primary School Training Program Friday November 1st to Friday 29th November

Term 4 – Primary School

Debating Training Who? – Current years 5 & 6 primary school students

considering debating at highschool or just looking to gain

confidence in public speaking. Future Monte students

particularly encouraged to join!

Where? – Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College – Meeting in

the McAuley Courtyard

When? – 5 week program commencing Friday 1st November

and concluding Friday 29th November, 3:15pm to 5:30pm

(3:15 - 3:45pm afternoon tea)

Cost? - $100/student ($20/session, incl. afternoon tea)
