Great first week of the term! Everyone is well rested and ready for learning.
As the temperatures rise and the sun begins to shine, hats and water are essential, as is sunscreen. Please make 'slip, slop, slap and wrap' part of your morning routines.
Next Friday we're having a staff only day, this means the children will have a four day weekend. With a Staff Only Day during the year, we tack on one more day to the end of the year. Our last school day is Thursday 19th December - finishing at 1.30pm. Friday is our only Staff Only Day in 2019 and we planned it the same time as Te Atatū Intermediate in an attempt to make it easier for our families.
Our community really enjoy discos. While supported by Rutherford staff on the night, the planning for the event is done by parents. We have one experienced parent who is great at planning discos. It would be helpful to have a one or two others work alongside her this round, so the mahi (work) is spread around. It takes about 5 hours of pre-planning time (ordering sausages, organising money, getting volunteers for the night). On the night, teaching staff provides all the supervision of students and heaps of parents put up their hands to help sell the food and glow sticks etc. Please let Michelle know in the office if you would like to be a part of fun in helping plan the disco next month on Friday 8th November.
Good luck to Belle Talagi who is representing our school in a singing competition in Vagahau Niue at Favona School this evening.

During Week 3 of this term we will be celebrating the different languages and cultures that represent Rutherford Primary School! Each team will be celebrating in their own special way. This will give an opportunity for tamariki from different cultures to share their specific cultural knowledge and to celebrate the diversity of our school. Please look out for Seesaw posts and notices with more information on what we will be doing on each day of the week.
MANA TAUTOKU RMS 1, 17, 18 AND 19
Mana Tautoko will start their week with parents and whanau visiting classrooms to share and celebrate a range of cultures through music, dance, story, and other activities. Wednesday is ‘dress to represent your own culture day’ with continued in class activities and a parade. Thursday is ‘Mexican dress up day’, children start and end the day in their own classrooms but will be moving throughout the team during the day experiencing aspects of Mexican, Paraguayan, and Samoan cultures and exploring rites of passage. We are looking forward to exploring new cultures that we have not experienced before and celebrating the diversity of our friends and classmates.
MANA WAIRUA RMS 12, 13, 14 AND 15
We are finding our place... Where in the world is Tautoku O Te Wairua We will learn about cultures, languages, dresses, food, and celebrations through the lenses of continents. Room 12 - Europe Room 13 - Australasia & NZ Room 14 - Asia Room 15 - The Pacific Triangle
Later on our classrooms will be open to other classes who can book a time and come and learn about the culture and language of that room.
KOTAHITANGA RMS 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 AND 16
Each room in Kotahitanga will be looking at the ethnic groups pertinent to them throughout the next few weeks. On
Friday the 1st of November we will have a celebration feast. Those children who would like to dress in their national
costume on that day can do so.
We would appreciate any parent involvement throughout our celebrations of cultures times.
All parents will have received a Kotahitanga letter this week that gives more details about our activities and how to be involved.
