Dear Families,
I have a very exciting update on Harry Siegert. Last Wednesday he was able to go home for the first time. This was
a very exciting time for Tammie, Tom, Noah and Flynn. Harry will require more surgery later in the year. Please
remember to continue to keep him in your prayers.
I ask you to continue to respect our neighbours as you drop off or pick up your children. I continue to receive phone
calls from our neighbours advising me that families are parking illegally when they collect their children. It has also
been reported that children are dropping rubbish outside houses as they wait to be picked up after school. Please
remind your children to keep any rubbish with them if they have a snack after school.
A reminder to keep your children at home if they are showing any signs of illness so that any bugs do not spread
through the school. We have been advised that the Children’s Hospital was treating children with various illnesses,
especially the flu, over the holidays.
Thank you to those parents who have paid school fees recently. It is important that all fees and levies are paid
promptly. If you have not already done so, please contact the office if you are having difficulty paying your fees and
levies.
At the end of the newsletter, there is a note to be returned to school advising us if your children will not be returning
to St. Paul’s in 2018. Please return it to school promptly if your children are not returning as we are beginning to
plan for 2018.
There will be no school on Monday 6th November (Cup Eve) and Tuesday 7th November (Cup Day). There will be
no school for students on Tuesday 14th November as all staff will be involved in professional development in the area
of Mathematics as well as a new Child Safety initiative – the Reportable Conduct Scheme.
Have a great week.
Yours sincerely,
Damian Casamento

CHILD SAFETY On Friday, October 27th, St. Paul’s will be participating in the registered event ‘A Day for Daniel’. On this day,
students are encouraged to wear something RED and bring a gold coin donation. Your donation will go to The
Daniel Morcombe Foundation to help to promote and educate children about safety. On this day, students will also
be continuing to work on the series of ‘Child Safety’ lessons. These lessons promote and teach students to
Recognise, React and Report if they find themselves in situations that make them feel unsafe. We encourage you to
continue to talk to your child about what they are learning in class.
BOOK CLUB via LOOP HELP SESSION WEEK 3
Book club forms were sent home today with instructions on how to order online. Please remember that we no longer accept cash at school for book club orders. If you are unsure about using the LOOP system please attend a help session on Tuesday afternoon October 24th at 2.15pm in the ICT room with Aaron Bickers from Scholastic. Your eldest St Paul's student could also attend the session with you if required. Bring along your credit card and complete your order on the spot!
All Book Club Loop Orders need to be finalised online by Friday October 27th at 5pm.
THUNDERSTORM ASTHMA
The devastating thunderstorm asthma event in Melbourne during last year’s pollen season highlighted the risk for
people with underlying breathing conditions. People with asthma and hay fever were particularly vulnerable.
Asthma Australia has worked closely with the authorities in Victoria and now provides a thunderstorm asthma
module in their online training so school staff can be prepared for such an event should it occur in school time. You
can help by ensuring your child’s Asthma Plan is up to date and the school has an in-date blue reliever puffer and
spacer for them in case of an emergency.
ASTHMA KIDS
Looking for a way to help your child understand more about their asthma or about a friend with asthma? Asthma
Kids is an online, interactive tool to help primary school aged children understand what it’s like to have asthma and
what they can do to help. Check it out at asthmakids.org.au

FOOTY FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Last term the SRC Fundraising Committee organised activities to raise funds for the Fight Cancer Foundation.
One of the first activities was a drawing competition. You had to draw something related to footy like a football, a favourite footballer or design a footy jumper. All the drawings were displayed at our Art Show. The Fundraising Committee voted and the winners of the drawing competition were Julia from SKP and Bianca from JVC.
As you may remember, one of the other activities was a Footy Handball Competition where you had to try to get as many points as possible using a target (MMA & SMA) or do the longest handball (Prep & JMA). This was held on different days during lunch times. The winners of the handball competition were:
Prep/Juniors - Dengalich (JCM) and Zoe (JGO)
Middles - Yosiyas (MPT) and Mia (MMD)
Seniors - Oskar (SRC) and Charlie (SVB)
We have had many people help us during all the activities. A special thank you to Mr Joe for preparing the handball target. We’d also like to thank all the students of the Fundraising Committee who helped make these activities possible. Thank you to Rafael, Julia, Andre, Mary-Jane, Sienna, Isabelle, Rhai and Danny. We’d also like to thank some of the House Captains for giving up their lunchtime to help with the handball competition. Thank you to Nessie, Daniel, Aliyah, Deng, Esther and Ben. Also thank you to Leikny and Paul who helped out on the day with collecting footballs and money or taking photos. Thank you also to Christopher for making some important announcements about the activities. From all the members of the Footy Fundraising Committee and all the participants we would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Timea and Ms Cathy for giving up their time to help us with making this possible.

From the Fundraising Committee
On the last day of term our Footy Colours Day was held and students were asked to bring a gold coin donation. We had lots of fun at the parade of teams and cheering for the longest kicks.
We would like to say thank you to all the students who participated in the activities. All the money raised from the different activities has added up to $435.95.
Congratulations to
the Masata Family
(Evey SJR, Eden MLC,
Elena JGO) on the safe arrival

12th September 2017.
We wish the Masata Family
much love and happiness.
