Mega Christmas Raffle – BIG PRIZES Each student will bring home a raffle book this week. Our annual Christmas raffle has come around again and this time the prizes are even more IMPRESSIVE! Please note – ALL TICKETS (sold or unsold) are due back by Friday December 13th. The lucky winners will be drawn on Monday December 16th. Kindergarten and Year 6 2020 Buddies Our youngest BPS students have been enjoying time to get to know their Year 6 buddies for next year. They have each been buddied up with current Year 5 students who are really thrilled to be able to help them enjoy school, feel safe and connected with older students. Mrs Thompson has reported how much our BPS HeadStart students already love their buddies! We know they are going to be a fantastic Kindergarten group when 2020 Term 1 rolls around. Thank you Year 5 and the Stage 3 teachers. This is another great example of the way we ensure our students are known, valued and cared for . If you know any other Bomaderry families with children of school-starting age for next year, please remind them to call by the school office for an enrolment pack. We are busy trying to plan classes and staffing for 2020 in the following weeks. Dear Parents/Carers, Your BPS teachers are working hard on final assessments of learning with each of our classes. These are being added to their summative information for the Semester 2 student reports. Preparing these for each of our 370 students is a large process, but the teachers at our school do it very well. The final results are a comprehensive, professionally considered document, which gives a clear indication of your childs progress throughout the second half of the school year. End of Year Dates All of these events are creeping up on us rapidly! We are crossing our fingers that you have all added the many BPS dates to your family calendars. Presentation Day—Tuesday December 10th The Primary Assembly will begin at 10.00am and the Infants Assembly at 12.00pm. All families are encouraged to attend and help congratulate all students on their 2019 achievements. Class Celebrations - Thursday December 12th Classes will celebrate their year together with other classes in their Stage groups. Separate excursion notes and payment slips have been prepared by each Stage. One important reminder about class celebrations on December 12th: The permission notes and monies will not be accepted late. These events require planning; booking venues and transport. These must be finalized by the cutoff date (see your childs note). Thank you for supporting us in adhering to the timeline. ShowcaseTalent Show - Monday December 16th Many individual students and small groups of buddies have been practicing their songs, dances, acts and more, ready to share their talents at this fun, relaxed school event. We look forward to having some fun together whilst celebrating the varied talents of our students. Shoalhaven Superheroes– Congratulations BPS Wow! We are so proud of Steven, Josephine and Charlotte who were nominated for community Superhero awards. On Saturday they attended the Shoalhaven Superheroes ShoalPop Event at Berry Cool Nursery. They were invited as award nominees and, great news. All three students won! Thank you to Mr Ellery for coordinating our schools nominations and also for attending the event on Saturday. Our Stage 2 students also took part in the same Superhero Event last Friday. The Shoalhaven Superheroes group organized a Kidditch Tournament – much like Quidditch’, the sport played in the Harry Potter series (obviously without the flying broomsticks!). Thank you to Ms Goodman and Mr Stevenson who have been coordinating the Kidditch training with the Wollongong University Kidditch Club over the past month and for accompanying the students for this fun, active day out. PBL ‘Shop’ Rewards Twice each school term, our PBL ‘Shop’ opens! Students can spend their hard-earned Bommo tokens (earnt in class for demonstration a huge variety of goodies and experiences. Last week, Ms Bobyk and Ms Hanbidge hosted a huge bake-off for the students who had purchased a token for some cooking time at school. Around 30 Stage 2 and 3 ‘chefs’ cooked lemonade scones with jam and cream! We almost left Mr Stevenson’s room as clean as when we arrived …. maybe some crumbs, but we ate the rest! Leisure Sports Wraps up Leisure Sports finished on Friday, last week. We were lucky enough to have the support of many local community volunteers at our local sporting venues. We would like to especially mention the wonderful helpers at Bomaderry Croquet Club, Bomaderry Bowling Club, North Nowra Gym Rockclimbing and Mr Morschell for his help with Cricket. These experts taught us new skills, volunteered their time and made us feel welcome at ‘their’ place. We are grateful for all of our local community links. After all, as the saying goes: “It takes a village to raise a child”. Thank you. End of Year Christmas Carols, Santa Photos and Family Barbecue Christmas Carols on Thursday December 5th - Our school community is invited to enjoy our first Bomaderry Public School Carols Under the COLA. We will gather at school in the afternoon, straight after school, for Christmas Carols performed by every class and a barbecue provided by our P&C. So bring your picnic blanket or folding chairs and come along for a lovely afternoon/evening celebrating the end of year, beginning of Summer and of course Christmas! If anyone is available to help throughout the afternoon with the barbeque, please contact the office or get in touch with Ms Bobyk. Santa Photos also on Thursday December 5th – during the Carols event, Santa will be here for photos with the kids. These are to be pre-ordered and paid for: see order form with this newsletter. Roofing Work at School Due to some roofing work being done in coming weeks, the Uniform Shop will be closed during Week 9, Tuesday 10th December and Thursday 12th December. Please take care over the next few weeks, there will be a lot of scaffolding in place around the school and some room shuffling. Please do not hesitate to ask if you cannot find your child’s classroom. Aim high - Achieve high Ms Dionne Hanbidge Principal

Achieving Our Goals Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they strive to achieve these every day. Congratulations Ayden, Troy and Brianna from 12Y. Ayden achieved his goal to show remainders when dividing. Troy can add numbers over 100 and Brianna is reading beyond level 13.

KC students; Sophie, Thor, Peter and Katelyn also achieved their goals. Sophie can write teen numbers. Thor can count to 100. Katelyn can count to 30 and Peter can count backwards from 30. Three clever K1S students achieved their reading goals last week. Beth can read level 18, Aliona level 12 and Amy level 30. Great job, everyone.

News from Our School Garden I mentioned in Week 5, that a team of staff at BPS has begun the process of researching and planning some programs for 2020 and beyond which will involve getting our students into some ‘gardening’ experiences. We have begun establishing our garden area with the help of Jane who we linked up with through the Pride of Bomaderry group. Next year we plan for our students to experience permaculture, propagation and food production. There is no denying the benefits of outdoor learning and a bulk of research tells us that getting our hands in to the beautiful Earth, and caring for nature, has benefits for our health and wellbeing. Ms Paton has started taking some groups to the garden to work with Jane. Last week they dug manure and leaf matter into our garden beds and topped them with sugarcane mulch. If you have experience in permaculture, plant or food production, or you are just a super weeder or pruner, please contact Ms Hanbidge or Ms Paton to mention your interest. We would love community support into the future and hope to steadily grow this project to link with families and groups beyond the school.

LIBRARY MATTERS The library is a great place to relax and enjoy the company of a good book, friends or family. It’s that time of the year again when students need to have a big search for their library books and return them to the library. Have a look under the bed, in the car, on the bookshelf, etc. The first class to have all their books returned will win a treat in the library.

Thank you to parents and carers for your support with finding library books. Please be advised the Book Club order from Issue 7 is on its way after a delay in processing at Scholastic. Orders will be distributed as soon as possible after their arrival to school. Apologies for any inconvenience. If you’re ordering from Issue 8, please have orders to the school office by Thursday 28th November or submitted online by this date to ensure they are processed with the school order. If your order is for a gift, please let me know either on the order form or through the school office and I will phone the parent/carer when the order arrives. Mrs Urquhart – Teacher Librarian
