Performing Arts

Our Christmas MADD Night was full of fun as students from Kindergarten through to Year 12 showed their talents to an appreciative audience. Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 kicked off the night with a wonderful Nativity Play which was followed by a variety of talented performers.

The performances ranged from soloists, bands, dancers and musicians, as well as showcasing the talents of both experienced and emerging performers. I look forward to continuing this tradition with further MADD Nights in 2020 - look out for a program of dates early in the new school year.

Thanks to our wonderful performers, the families and friends that came out to support and to all the people who helped in any way to provide this opportunity. We’ll see you next year.

Miss Harris

Sport

On Tuesday, Stage 2 and 3 were fortunate to begin their AFL skills clinic provided by the AFL NSW/ACT. Casey, the coach who represented the GWS Giants started with teaching the students how to perform the Drop Punt and the three catching techniques known as the chest mark, the overhead mark and the out in front mark.

The students had great fun learning to kick from different lines to kick a goal between the poles and their favourite part was the high kick challenge.

Some proud moments for the students were when Lilee managed to kick the ball through the narrow poles straight to Casey and Jasmine won the longest kick challenge.

The students are looking forward to the rest of the AFL skills clinic and especially playing a real AFL game.

Public Speaking Competition

In Speak UP! this year we heard from more speakers than ever before. Students from Year 2 to Year 4 spoke first and the range of topics and the quality of speaking was impressive. It was particularly encouraging to see so many Year 2 students wanting to participate - it is a great sign for future public speaking at Parkes Christian School.

Year 5 to Year 11 students competed later in the day and also put forward some impressive speeches. It was fabulous to see the ways that some experienced speakers have grown and improved in their speaking, as welling as having new speakers stepping up and getting involved.

Speakers showcased their passions about a wide range of topics, from personal issues through to environmental, health and social justice. I cannot wait to hear from next year’s speakers, I’m sure more students have been inspired to compete next year. Winners will be announced at the House Cup Presentation Assembly on Wednesday 11 December at 9:10am.

Thanks to all the amazing students who this year decided to Speak UP! Miss Katrina Harris

Working Bee

A HUGE thank you to all those who came out on Saturday for our working bee. Our old tennis court is officially gone and we are all ready for the new surface and fencing which will be ready for the start of the new year.

Thank you especially to Jim Davis, Dooley Thompson, Will Plomp and Andrew Field for donating their equipment and expertise; we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you also to the McMaster, McIntyre and Westgarth families as well as the PCS staff for helping us on the day. You are so appreciated!

We can’t wait to unveil the completed project soon.

The students worked well together and with our contractors to get the new fence up and stock-proof. The fence will be finished by the students this week.

Well done everyone. We can’t wait to see the finished result!
